  • Bringing the archive to life, a chance to learn about the places and communities in the photographs held in Open Eye Gallery’s collection. Dan Warner, history student at Liverpool University, uses word of mouth and interviews with locals to better build a historical picture of a place and time. A selection of images showing council housing in Liverpool around the 1970s and 80s from photographers John Stoddart, John McDonald and Vanley Burke are the source material for this presentation alongside the stories and findings of Dan’s research.

Lovely nostalgic pics...I was part of the “exodus” back in 1956...I was 7yrs old then and me ma was given a 3rd story flat in Southend Kirkby...we’d moved from Liffey street just off Lodge lane...where we shared a house with me Auntie Marie and her three kids, my cousins....I loved it in Kirkby with loads of kids my same age playing footy all day!...they’d all moved from the Liverpool slums as well...great days..👍🏻

I grew up in The south end. Caryl Gardens, everyone knew their neighbours and everyone looked out for each other. Such a sense of community. We moved in 1980 to Aigburth. Still there but I wouldn't have moved from Caryly unless I had to.

Unless you have lived it , you would never understand it!
Lived in both the 50,s and 60,s High rises , (Cresswell Mount) and (Logan Towers) and the leftover slum houses of the Early 1970,s (Northdingle) Kirkdale............................................................
Good and bad memories to be honest 🤔🤔😚😚

    Shame there’s no sound.
It should be very easy to re-edit this with some kind of music or background noise. Get someone to do it. It would make it so much more watchable.
