There's been alot of so called regeneration but somehow the city looked more prosperous back then. Big Liverpool born department stores like Lewis's, Rapid, Clayton Square and TJs doing really well. Culturally richer too with Quiggins, Cream, Scouse bands in the charts, Wade Smith and the market stalls. Town felt a more local affair compared to now for better or worse but so glad this was my childhood.
Ironic that the prize for winning the European Capital of Culture in 2008 was to destroy the actual culture of Liverpool by knocking down a good chunk of the city and building a shopping mall consisting of global chain stores and cardboard student accommodation. They've absolutely ruined the place.
I remember me mum taking me to the grotto in T J Hughes about 1955, I drove buses up Church Street in the 1970s. Me and the mates used to start our pub crawl in the Legs Of Man. I remember steam trains in Lime Street Station and the overhead railway (the dockers umbrella) I moved away from the area in 2016 but I will always be a Scouser.
I am 77yrs old and have lived in Norfolk and Cambridge since 1976. I bought my first record player and tiny transistor radio from Rushworth & Draper when in my early teens. Happy memories. 😃 ♥️
But... this feels like last week... damn I'm old.
My thoughts exactly. When one is in one's 70s, the nighties feel like about 4 weeks ago. One thought that struck me was: in what way was Liverpool One an improvement?
In my mind this is what it still looks like in the city centre.
i know what you mean! even the 70s and 80s don't seem that long ago to me! i can even remember the 60s but that does feel like a long long time ago in my mind in a Liverpool that doesn't exist anymore with a lot of friends and family sadly long gone
Absolutely brilliant, noticed a few faces and places on this from the past. Loved it.
I miss the 90s around liverpool great times back then, loads of great night clubs, the best times in my great city was the 90s.
Yes it's changed a lot now over in Liverpool.
We have sold our soul, that's the price we have to pay to compete against other cities...sad but true !!
It’s like that in my head now with Lada’s and Datsun Cherry everywhere! The Fiat in Bold Street looks so new!
The Odeon, brought back floods.
One van has 051 on it before it went to 0151
Wimpy... and a Lada. There are places (we) remember....
Today it looks like a foreign country unfortunately. The rapid shift in the city center over the past 2 years has been terrifying. Do we lose Liverpool or do we keep it ?
@@eightiesmusic1984 might wanna try living here then...as for multiculturalism...ever heard of Yugoslavia you clown ?
@@eightiesmusic1984 Hope not Hate. The government organisation created to push an agenda of Multiculturalism that nobody asked for, and has destroyed the country and now arrived in Liverpool ?
@@eightiesmusic1984 I bet you're about 60 ages of age. A washed up hippy who once played in a band in the 1980s and probably lives in Aigburth or on the Wirral
Awaiting enrichment?
Exactly .....it near brought me to tears. Notice how much cleaner and nicer everything looks. Labour have destroyed this city over the past few years
look how rammed the city centre used to get on Saturday afternoons
Just the way I remember it
Just seems like 2 years ago
The people of the city that go to town any more and you wonder why the heart has been torn out
"5 for a pound your lighters....
Lighters 5 for a pound."
Anyone remember the fella in the middle of town who would say that all day?
i remember. I remember it all
@michaelc4907 do you remember at the corner of queens drive and Prescott Road there was a fella called "Tony give us a wave". Or something like that. And you could beep him and he would wave at whoever beeped him? He was there almost every day.
