Late game build videos seem more about showcasing how someone was able to master the game than giving practical instruction. Put simply this is a comprehensive and informative video.
The “early game” is typically over half of your time spent playing, I’ve never understood why builds skip it and it’s half the reason I started making my own videos. The other reason is that alot of other creators manage to spend twice as long talking about half as much when I’m just trying to play the game lol

The in-depth explanations while maintaining a solid length makes this both informative and brief in a way that most build videos Have seen never manage to do. Also the early game explanation is so crucial that I never understand why it is never mentioned in build videos since early to mid-game is usually a vast majority of your playthrough. Also thank you for mentioning how hard parrying is on nightmare, I honestly thought I was just really bad at it but I don't struggle to parry in any other game and considering a lot of builds for rogue made it an essential mechanic it was driving me nuts and making me feel quite frustrated that I completely ignored it as a defensive option. The build document is also a great touch btw. I have been playing a duelist rogue build so far but I want to start a Spell blade build since it looks really fun as well to catch up to my main build and decide which I prefer to use to finish the game for the 1st time after getting hands-on experience with both, would be really great if you release a viable Spellblade build. Also, you earned your self a sub and like with this videos quality.

Respecced my Level 32 Rogue into this build last night. Already had or acquired all the gear and upgraded as high as I could (+8, most are purple). Easily beat a couple Champions I had struggled with because of low damage output previously. Great build!
14:40 regarding healing from companions, even Davrin can automatically taunt enemies and heal you if you fall below Low Health. The auto trigger skills are OP as they have independent cooldown.
My friend, this build is awesome. It's charge you up from early game with lightning flask, giving you sweet sweet aoe instead of necrotic weapon, merely useless at low levels. Just whai I've looking for. Many thanks!

Oh man, I need to play Witcher again. That music is so good. If there is one thing that saddens me about Veilguard (which I like) ... it's that there isn't a world to explore and sink hours into like The Witcher 3. A sense of grounded adventure across the countryside is one of the most underutilized aspects of the fantasy RPG genre these days.

This is the build I made ! Except I slightly leaned into full on necrosis and used the rune that gives you back your momentum alongside emmrich with buffed quietus juicing my resource. Could infinitely spam abilities while taking no damage and because you end up with 8-9 active advantages (+ extra damage per max arrow) the damage got so gross so fast. Nice to see a different version of it using different skills
I also recommend using the bow that gives you another stacking 4% damage per arrow in your max arrow count; that with the node in the tree is 8% per arrow; making little things like +2 max arrows quite impactful
Very nice guide. I was doing something similar but got a bunch of ideas of new things to try from your gear setup. I do recommend going a little farther along the Lords of Fortune branch from Some Motivation to pick up Explosive Trap and Salt in the Wound. The synergy between Lightning Flask and Salt in the Wound makes the early game, before good equipment can be found, much easier. Explosive Trap is a good replacement for Static Blades. It doesn't use momentum but can generate a lot of it with Rolling Momentum.
That’s certainly a good pathway as well, there’s so many different ways to build in this game. I really do like Salt in the Wound and was highly considering it somewhere.
@@Red_Gael I finally got my Cold Steel up to legendary status and it is a lot of fun. The silliest combo I found was getting Neve the item that makes all ability crits apply Chilled and giving Rook the Maw of the Black City ring that makes all ability hits critical. With legendary Cold Steel and the greater passive that makes every Control ability apply Necrosis in an AoE, Lightning Flask becomes really funny as everything near rook is tossed backward and then frozen in midair.
Pretty refreshing to hear someone admit how difficult it is to parry in Nightmare. So many builds saying they are Nightmare viable and recommending weakpoint attacks and perfect defense and I'm looking at end game Nightmare figths and going... Nahhh Abusing ability use invulnerability is basically the absolute most effective strategy i never see promoted. Good stuff.
I can't even parry on the easy difficulties, so it's nice hearing that people more skilled than I am still struggle with it. My brain/hand/eye coordination is not that great unfortunately. Thanks for being real!
The parry feels a little wonky. There is an additional setting under advanced combat settings called Combat Timing. setting to forgiving makes it a little better.
One notable passive to add: in the top left, there's a passive that gives you a global +4% damage per maximum arrow in your quiver. It's the biggest damage boost for rogue and it works on every build, because you always have at least 8 arrows to start and nearly all rogue-oriented gear adds arrows. That's a minimum +32% global damage and can get up around 125% if you have lots of arrow boosting gear. Honestly, I'm waiting for that one to get nerfed.
Yes it’s in the build at level 59 and the arrow count for this build is 10 so 40%, crazy powerful. I didn’t mention it because it’s just damage not something you have to actually understand to use it effectively, like Downfall for example.
it reminds me of the mage build i use. get the passive that applies arcane bomb on blast abilities and detonate with a heavy from coral tip unique which applies freezing on arcane bomb detonation lol. so perma invul and perma freeze XD
Finish the game with rouge yesterday, with almost the exact build, gear, weapons except I use double - hat to get the trible threat ability boost damage replace pilfer with rain of decay And for servivabilty enchant thousand cuts with invulnerability on use, nightmare easy mod
I would also recommend the passive "Physical strikes" (bottom left corner) to make strike abilities use physical damage for at least darkspawn (they are resistant to necrotic damage).
@@jankodes197 I agree with this, in my “perfected” version of duelist rogue I do this, you can even switch it off and on depending on if your fighting antaam since necrotic is super effective vs them still, I’ll be releasing a version with that soon
@@Red_Gael I hate antaam - on my first playthrough I played as a melee lightning mage and with their annoying lightning resistance and interruptions it really is nice to see them melt with necrotic critical thousand cuts.
Where do you get the purple upgrade for the crow's perch medallion? I'm pretty far into my nightmare game and mine is still blue. I think I bought one from the crow merchant. There's only one chest left on my map but if I remember correctly that chest is locked behind Lucanis's last loyalty mission.
Only half way through mage play through so this week will be Saboteur and Veil Ranger. I actually have two really nice Spellblades theory crafted right now so probably two of those and Deathcaller next week.
I find rogue's parry is harder than warrior, probably because rogue dodges better, dont know if its actually designed like that or just my delusion lol. I just started a new warrior save you can pretty much block all day, even attacks from behind which is hilarious. Didn't even parry much on my first playthrough as a rogue.
If there is a control damage ring I have not found it. If you mean the control damage amulet then it’s because the Crows Perch Medallion is what makes the entire build work with its 25 momentum on critical hit so it can’t really be replaced.

get Cold Steel to purple to unlock 'charged attacks apply Chilled.' the basic tool tip doesn't tell you that strikes against chilled enemies crit. so you'll start an encounter with a charged attack to apply chilled, then thousand strikes.
Lots of good ideas here and it's similar to my build, but the problem is that SO many enemies are almost immune to necrotic on nightmare difficulty. You'll do amazing damage one fight and then awful damage the next. I personally went down the left side to get the passive that makes all ability damage physical, then paired a physical thousand cuts with the bomb ability that is great at crowd control.
@@StingingV yes I’ve talked about this in some of my more recent videos I do not like necrotic damage. My “perfected” duelist rogue does the same exact thing you did I just haven’t made the video for it yet. It’s extra nice because if you want to min-max vs antaam you can just turn it off quick and then you have super effective damage vs them as well.
I have yet to see a build utilize Last Resort. Its a risky item but if you have a ton of things that enable invulnerability, it can easily make for broken builds.
I plan on making crazier builds eventually but I want to create one “basic” baseline build for every specialization before getting crazy. I’m also waiting to see if some of those uniques get nerfed before making an entire build for them.
@@creativemindslikeus what part of it do you like exactly? Spellsword isn’t really the best in close quarters combat id that’s what you’re asking but I do have a Spellsword build on the channel “Rain of Fire” that’s completely broken and makes you invincible.
I wish I knew exactly how loot worked in this game, it seems pseudo-random, you certainly can still get some from other chests or stores but I believe it’s random
@@XuLiang-o5b If you press "G" (on PC) on the skill for details it says "Advanced specs: Critical condition - target is chilled". The charged attack with Cold steel of purple quality (so you need at least a copy from shadow dragon t4 store and from Wetlands during Academic interest quest) will chill target. So you can charge attack and then use thousand cuts for critical hits. Later during one of the dragon hunts you can get the final copy of Cold steel and freeze enemies with Thousand cuts (necrosis to chilled targets freeze them and you release necrosis with any strike ability from "Poisoned blades" passive).
@ see I don’t believe so, I have tested it by opening a chest and then reloading and opening it again and it has given me different items so I really don’t know lol maybe some are static and some not
@@ziondale7 i misspoke they do not cost 25 they cost 50 but the crows perch medallion combined with thousand cuts allows you to go basically infinite with them

@@trashcangoblin420 trust me, using staff for anything other than laser beam early/mid is not good. Orb and dagger + takedowns heal with lightning area, firewall (sustained boss/elite DPS, with perfect parry carrying.) Staff build only comes online for evoker/death caller after level 30.
To my understanding it seems like weapons are pseudo-random in chests, so it’s kind of a crapshoot. I think they are more likely to appear in the area that the symbol on them is though. For example Shadow Dragon symbol = Minrathous.
Just finished the game with your infinite skill use mage build (fire and lightning) and it absolutely clapped everything with ease. This build is next. So sad that I managed to get all legendaries apart from one and then the game ended. /facepalm
ok i absolutely suck at dodging and blocking. My mind set is kill them before they strike. With that in mind is rogue trash to me. I see its resource is momentum, but it looks like you only get it if you perfect block or perfect dodge.
If you play on Nightmare in this game you will be dodging and blocking on every class no matter what, especially in the early game. With that being said Rogue definitely uses it more than the other classes. Your best bet is probably evoker or death caller mage.

Maybe I don't understand something, but Pilfer does not provide time dilation. Pilfer doesn't give any potion bonuses. Tested many times.
I’m not really sure, you are using the belt and not getting time dilation? Because it works for me everytime.

Im clearly missing it, but can you explain how you're critting every time you use Thousand Cuts?

i tried so hard to be a different faction but like 5 hours in i switch back to being a grey warden. i just cant help myself lol
They are for sure the best backstory for rook in this game and the coolest faction in general, passives are just a little mediocre.
The bonus to Darkspawn is Maybe the best passive of all the factions, but the health/defense is almost useless.

All I've played is mage and nightmare. I will warn you, staff build early and mid game nightmare is terrible.

@@trashcangoblin420 trust me, using staff for anything other than laser beam early/mid is not good. Orb and dagger + takedowns heal with lightning area, firewall (sustained boss/elite DPS, with perfect parry carrying.) Staff build only comes online for evoker/death caller after level 30.
Where is cold steel located?
To my understanding it seems like weapons are pseudo-random in chests, so it’s kind of a crapshoot. I think they are more likely to appear in the area that the symbol on them is though. For example Shadow Dragon symbol = Minrathous.

Just finished the game with your infinite skill use mage build (fire and lightning) and it absolutely clapped everything with ease. This build is next. So sad that I managed to get all legendaries apart from one and then the game ended. /facepalm
ok i absolutely suck at dodging and blocking. My mind set is kill them before they strike. With that in mind is rogue trash to me. I see its resource is momentum, but it looks like you only get it if you perfect block or perfect dodge.
If you play on Nightmare in this game you will be dodging and blocking on every class no matter what, especially in the early game. With that being said Rogue definitely uses it more than the other classes. Your best bet is probably evoker or death caller mage.
