For those who want to avoid citadel paints, Vallejo has an equivalent to the contrast range called Xpress Colors, and one of the paints is called Heretic Turquoise and is obviously designed to paint Sons of Horus.
Sounds great! I stick to citadel paints for Warhammer as much as possible because it’s usually easier for people following along but good to have the alternatives too!
Excellent work Andy! I like the color scheme and the silver dry brushing looks good. I appreciate the Legions Imperialis tutorials as I know they involve a lot of work. Thanks for making and sharing them.
With your photos at the end, I think they turned out quite well when you took them at roughly table level rather than top down. If you really want high resolution, just use your camera's macro setting.
Another fantastic tutorial, really nailed the Sons of Horus colour scheme. You're really making it difficult to decide which Legion to go with now....... Roll on Solar Auxillia Part 2. Thanks and keep up the good work
I think you identified for me why I've always liked Epic (and why I mostly paint 15mm historical these days). From about the 5:30 min mark. Get it slapped on and get it on a table Every faction is a hoard army so it levels the playing field in terms of effort vs reward. The spectacle and enjoyment for me is in the sweep of the army. The table presence of the whole force. Soooo many tanks :) And simplicity and readability in the paint job is key. It's like Contrast was designed for Epic; everyone can have a great looking army no matter their skill
They definitely look cool. Simple is always good. There's a part of me that wants to get enough of this to paint as Ultramarines vs Word Bearers. Maybe down the road.
I think this setup would work really well for alpha legion, only change I need to make is a pure white prime instead of a grey. Can’t wait to try it out! I just need to see if I can find some of the hydra transfers for my tanks and dreads
The transfers you need are in the individual tank boxes. So not in the starter box. Bit if you bought way the 10 rhino box you get lovely transfers sheet for all legions.
Gray Seer must be enough of a difference from a base paint of white. The last time I tried Terradon Turquoise mine turned out a lot brighter and not the dark sea green you see on the box art.
Looks great! Really like the Son's of Horus colors. I only wish I could afford to buy in to the new game right now. But I just can't justify the price right now.
Totally fair! It will be around for a while anyway so there’s no pressure right now, plus it’s always good to see if there’s a community to play with before investing in a new system!
Great job Andy, I can see away of doing all the legions, contrast pinky purple of your choice over silver emperors children, contrast red over gold thousand suns, etc etc but the eighth have me scratching my head, a nice dark contrast blue over silver can get me a nice heresy era midnight clad blue but I’m damned if I’m gonna paint lighting on the infantry in the normal brush method, even the tanks might be a stretch in terms of getting the scale right. So as I know your also a fan of the eighth Andy I was wondering if you had any ideas of how to make them look good without selling our souls and more importantly sanity to the ruinous powers?
Beautiful result. You don't use contrast medium to dilute the nuln oil. Have you found that water does the trick the same way, just fine? I've heard cautionary notes in this regard.
I am indeed im using a pair of cannon e50 mk2 and I’m using the stock lense. I’m really not good at this part. Don’t suppose you could send me a link to one that would work?
Great couple of videos, really making it look less intimidating and easy to achieve success with. Years ago I planned on some corrupted Titans for AT (never got round to it), having had fun doing so for BFG a long time ago. As such I’m looking at Death Guard for LI. Any recommendations for quick paint schemes and appropriate speed/contrasts that would work?
Thanks for doing the Sons of Horus. I wanted to do them and wasn't sure if I should use the Sons of Horus base paint or Aeldari Emerald contrast to get the proper color for them. The Terradon Turquoise does look awesome. What color did you use for the miniatures tiny base between their feet?
I paint my normal sized Dark Angels Silver than Shyish Purple than put a slightly thined coat of Black Templar over it and Blood Tearers red for those parts would that work at this scale?

Unless it’s for Alpha Legion…
Vallejo Xpress is absolutely incredible, it's so much better than contrast paints - working time is much, much better!
And they dry super matt which is a bonus for me at least.
@@kaibe5241thanks, I might check out Xpress colour, I live Metal Colour and use it all the time.

Anytime pal.
Really loving those Legions Imperialis videos, keep them coming please!
Plenty more on the way, glad you’re liking them!
Thanks!
Very kind pal. Thank you.
Of course thanks for the vid! I think this will be how I paint up my starter marines. The Justaerin got me : P
Glad you liked it pal.
Lovely work Andy, il be doing the same but over the old Leadbelcher spray to cut out the metal stage (Its the shiny silver as i have a few cand left)

Anytime pal.
Lots of helpful tips in this video. Thanks for the great content. Can't wait to see your video on World Eaters! ;)
Cheers pal
Just what I needed, about to begin a load of these, more please 👏
Will do pal.
Another great painting video for the sons of Horus. Ideally anticipate your video on painting the best legion of all time, iron within.
Might skip them to be honest, nobody likes them 😂
They look fantastic, nice work yet again! Waiting one more week is killing me
Hahah you should have them now. Enjoy pal.
You're really knocking these out of the park. Great tutorial!
Thanks so much, glad you’re enjoying them!

That’s such an important rule to follow when doing these armies.
They definitely look cool. Simple is always good. There's a part of me that wants to get enough of this to paint as Ultramarines vs Word Bearers. Maybe down the road.
That would look very cool.

Lovely results. Inspires me to give it a go.
Aw that’s great to hear, thank you 🙌
Loving this series of videos, lack of source material for Solar Auxilia is disappointing. Looking forward to more in this series.
I hope I can give them to you soon.
Great video, I am doing Sons of Horus so appreciate it 😊
Aw perfect! Glad you liked it!
Very good. I’m seriously looking at this. Please do the other Legions.
I plan to pal.
Loving this series. Decided to dip in with a couple boxes of solar auxilia... Whoops lol
Hahaha you’ll have them painted before your wallet recovers
Gray Seer must be enough of a difference from a base paint of white. The last time I tried Terradon Turquoise mine turned out a lot brighter and not the dark sea green you see on the box art.
Yes yea spray makes a huge difference.
Yes, please bring on the bases!
It’s a deal
Can't wait to see some Word Bearers done at this scale. :)
Cheers pal.
Cheers Andy!
Anytime.

Ye I mite need to try and do a set of the eight to see how to make them work. It will be tricky.
Great video. 👍 Please also do one on bases.
Ye I will this week I think.

I haven’t been thining my wash much but when I do it’s with a drop of water and over had no issues.
If you are using a DSLR camera, get some Macro Lens Extenders. I use them for insect photos.

Great video as always and loving the epic content. Any chance of a blood angels tutorial?
There next on the list pal.

Just the middle colour I used for the base.
Thanks Andy. Legend!
I do love those bases!
Yeah really happy with them especially for how easy and fast they are!
Great vid❤️❤️
Thanks man 🙌
I paint my normal sized Dark Angels Silver than Shyish Purple than put a slightly thined coat of Black Templar over it and Blood Tearers red for those parts would that work at this scale?
That sounds interesting. Any picture. Please tag me.
Will terradon turquoise still pop like that if i already base coated my figures with mechanicus standard grey?
I would just add another light spray if white over the top before you start. It will be very dark over just grey.
I would love a tiny Sanguinius and to see blood angels
It will happen Pal. We need tiny primarchs.
I need a blood angels guide. For basically everything lol
I will be doing one don’t worry.
More legion scheme videos would be really cool
On the way!
I know it's a slim chance, but will we see you paint Iron Hands?
Perhaps. We shall see.
Was the nuln oil applied to the vehicles as well?
No it was not.
Ty!
Do you have to Spay black and then Grey or can you just go straight to grey?
You can go strength grey if you want just try not miss any and the end result will be a bit brighter.
I ended up doing black then grey. it does come out nicer, cheers.@@MediocreHobbies
The “free” option is to boost total user numbers, it looks better to investors.
Ok that makes a lot more sense now!
This is class any plans to do wolves?
Oh yes. When I can get some time
@@MediocreHobbies loving your work buddy
An Iron Warriors version would be helpful. I'm mostly trying to figure out how I'll handle the hazard stripes.
I can do that.
Someone asked for blood angels and i second it
Ye I will be doing them this week.
Death Guard, please!
Yea sir
What did you glue them to the lollipop sticks with?
Super glue! They just snap right afterwards!
Awesome 😊 thank you
Why is your terradon turquoise so much darker than mine?
I have no idea 😄
I found out i just needed to shake it more
@@MediocreHobbies
For the Dark (Algorithm) Gods!
Thank you!
They look good, but I think it's a crying shame you didn't use a metallic undercoat!
That’s fair!
do a video for bases only pls!
Already done a few!
Also did you paint the terminators any shade of the horus heresy or just black i couldn't tell.@@MediocreHobbies
Damn, I has hoping to give Legions Imperialis a pass, but the models are looking really nice...
I’ll wear you down yet!
Ploom is what's on the head
Thank you!!!
Do you thin the contrast paints at all?
Nope.
