- Custom Suspension Geometry Explained for my V8 LS Honda Accord Project
Today I got into figuring out how the suspension is going to work in the LS1 swapped honda accord. My goal was to make sure everything aligned with how the original engineers of the car designed it. Also, I went back and corrected the new frame rails to be stronger and better aligned for the GTO subframe. Thanks for watching!

I like u take time to explain the small details that most don’t
I like the way u are going into details and through everything so thoroughly. Keep on pushing, can't wait for more of this build
You're not afraid to get stuck into it, fair play! Nice idea to use the strut brace to find the correct geometry side to side. I like your way of thinking. 👌🏼
The show fantomworks put a gto front end in a 56 Thunderbird and they made it look 100x harder than you did. And I dont think it was tv editing because they couldn't figure out how to fit the struts in it. I'm pretty sure a 56 t bird is a bit bigger than an 80s accord.. nice work dude
The 56 Thunderbird has body on frame construction. It's more work to add a strut front end to that than a unibody.
I'm now smarter having watched this video... lol. It bears repeating... I am truly impressed by your skill level. This has quickly become my favorite build on TH-cam.
I really wish I started watching this build much sooner, thank you for explaining everything
It just shows that maths is still needed in the real world, your explanations are shown in a way that even someone with no grades in school can understand, I am saying that in a good way not bad. I remember getting the caster angle right with my uncle on a crashed car using a chain and tree it worked and the car got inspected and passed, I asked him how he had learned that method, he explained, in the army if you need to fix something you use what is available. Works for me.
Nice to see you took my advice and are using the shock towers from the gto to graph to the Honda. Your more than likely going to have to do the same thing in the rear. Your doing this swap the right way and I can't wait to see it finished
I am watching from my wife's channel so i can see on tv... This is someone and awesome stuff. I have a 96 accord coupe at home i been thinking of doing this too... I may look for a newer firebird donor. When you were talking about hood is what made me think of a ram air hood. Working Mans Restorations
I like the time you take to explain and your whole approach with your work. This is a high quality channel. Thanks for your time 👌
The level of detail you have as a painter, taken into a cool ass car build. It’s gonna be great! I’m stoked on this series 🥳
I appreciate you sharing the knowledge its interesting to me and I hope I can put it to use one day.this build is so far my fave and definitely one that a lot of people will be talking about very soon.im pretty ephin excited lol
I absolutely love your commitment to this. This is one of the most interesting car channels out there, such a fascinating and refreshing build. Looking to forward to more of your content!
hey man!! Thanks so much!
@@BodeVision No, thank you! I can't wait to see this thing hitting the FL streets. So cool to know you're kinda near by. - Tampa
Why hasn’t your channel blown up yet?!? People need to see this!!
JAOC it’s growing man! Share the video if you feel others should see it. Thanks for the support!
man you are really making progress, and doing everything the right way, im not saying i know whats right, but when you explain it and show us whats going on in your head its like, "damn, hes right" , love the vids and i cant wait to see how this thing turns out and the teg
You're seriously giving me a ton of motivation to finish my build and start another, gotta finish this video first though lol
yo adam, once betty whites a BADASS drifting machine... an awesome idea for a video would be a drift battle between an 86 corolla and ol betty white!
ive always thought the lxi hatch is as close to the hachiroku as Honda could get, minus the rwd part... and now youre the FIRST to make that epic dream come true!
Your a bad dude! I just found your channel and I've been binge watching this accord build 👌👌👌👌👌
Hi Adam, since you are using coilovers and can adjust the height, yo should lower the strut tower tops so you can use the stock hood. The length of the coilovers can be speced when you order them. You could use a dry sump, like Taylor did on his Miata. This will eliminate the oil pan and lower the overall height of the LS engine. This should get you very close to fitting under the stock hood. You will give you a killer sleeper. If you cut the flanges of the headers that came with the headers on the GTO, Taylor could help to make some custom headers to fit with the subframe on the Honda. Just don't cut the headers until you find out where to cut them, you may be able to fit them mostly under the motor , or you may need to trim the firewall and floorboards a tiny bit to get them to fit. It just depends on how much clearance you have on both sides of the heads on the LS. Great job explaining the math you used to get the results you needed to place the strut tops. Just lower them to clear the stock hood. It will be a much cleaner stealth look. Taylor should be able to help with the exhaust. He has a lot of experience making exhausts for his various projects, and he has a tig welder. I'm sure he would be happy to help you out. Personally, I would have put a K20 in there, and turbocharged it using PFI speeds recommended eBay turbo, you could easily get between Five and nine hundred horsepower and the motors are cheep and plentiful, you could even make it all wheel drive like Trevor did from motion auto TV. Keep up the great videos!
Hey, just wanted to say that I love how you took your time to explain the intricate details in regards to the front suspension. Looking forward to more videos on this project. Keep up the good work and great content!
Love how detailed you get! Keep doing that!
Yeah, don't apologize at all. I've watched a LOT of car content and no one has ever explained this, even on more extreme hack and build projects. Thanks!!
This is why I subbed to your channel! I love this. Amazing project mate, having such a blast watching you do your thing.
Yo your work is great. Meticulousness is awesome. Can’t wait for the follow up videos.
Cannot wait to see this car go around the Nurburgring. Go get 'em Bode.
You made it very easy to understand!!!
So hyped on this project, love these year accords definitely nice to see a dope build
Love this Build. Can't wait for more progress.
Awesome video man good explanation of how to find your caster cant wait to see this project come to life.
I would never figure the things you do. Great job
You can get adjustable Castor kit mounts on k frame to z bar have different thickness washers . the monaro / commodore / gto has a camber adjuster at the knuckle back off the strut bolts wind 8 mm headed bolt in or out for camber adjustment . Loving your channel
Good job man! Your one of the first I've seen cover up the glass while grinding I learned the hard way keep up the good work!
I learned the hard way as well! lol never again
one of the cleanest interiors ive ever seen
Keep up the good word. Love your show. Thnx for explaing every detaille of your work!!! Greetings from Belgium!!!
Awesome video, found this project recently and can't wait to see the progress!
This is going to be hugely successful! I can’t wait
I always saw this thing in the background of the videos and it always made me feel some sort of special way. Makes me miss my 3gee
Dude! Excellent video and so thorough and well done. Bravo 👏
Glad I came across this channel... also I want those plates on the wall in the shop because I live in Iowa haha
🚗📐🔩⚖️🔍💻⚒️🔧📐💻📽️ Great job on explaining how everything has to works. Keep up the good content
Really cool build dude making progress 👌
Awesome build! Cant wait till the next part
Hopefully you still have some slight caster movement for road crown compensation. Looking good bro 👍
This is such a neat project, really nice job so far!
Siiick. I have a 2006 GTO and have been watchin since the first TR paint job you did. The donut bushings are definitely a weak point for the GTO suspension. Making great progress dude! Keep pushing!
Badass man! Looking forward to every video for this one!
It's coming along nicely. Another great video 👍👍
nice work going into some crazy detail there thanks..
awesome episode! loved the in depth view of your process.
Im looking forward to seeing how this turns out bro, no doubt itll be great
Right on! Great progress! looks good
Adam bro, you're the man. You do it all. I think you could build a car!!! 😁the Adam LZ. Keep doing you partner. Respect!!! 🍻
You’re doing it right! Enjoyed all the detailed information!
One of the best vids yet.
Cant wait to see you drive betty
Awesome work! Keeping a close eye on this great project!
Idk much but what I do know is that you're a gem on TH-cam this channel is greatness fr. You have more talent then most this is going to be a sick build. When it's all said and done are you going to shave, tuck and float that motor or naw?
DominiKing INC. Thanks so much man! Means a lot! As far as the bay, I’m going to make sure eveything Is functional first and then make it clean and possible shaved. We shall see
@@BodeVision Can't wait to 👀 that!!
Awesome information dump 👍
Bode... Bro .
I love the intro & change, dude don't change your format too soon ... I like it!
Also a liquid leveler would probably help more accurately.
Awsome video even though it was 17 minutes it felt like 5 great information.
Did your teacher ever tell you "your not going to be walking around with a calculator when you're an adult!" Ha! Take that teach!
Love this build its insane! 😎🔥
Aye new profile logo👌🏽
Man this build is unique aF and i'm hyped for the rest :) also its nice to see you doing things like this and shows your not just a painter hahaa.
Had you made some mock three point suspension arms to reference the lower a arm mounts and the strut towers, with your brace you could have avoided all of that measuring stuffs and been more accurate. Are you gonna get some good caster camber plates on the top too? You'll probably need a little adjustment.
Get as much caster as possible! It will help steering return and the car to go straight it doesn’t have to be the same as the gto. As long as wheels fit evenly in wheel wells. If you make slots like a stock 3rd gen camaro has on the strut towers you can adjust camber and caster
Good job explaining it
Weight ration back to front suspension change up noise dive and 70 style jacked up rear it will look good great work so far all in the detail.
Fuck yeah bode smashing it bro🚗💨💨
this build is dope 💯
Awesome. Nice explanation
Damn bode! shit's looking legit!
Have you considered tubing the front drifter style to make room for some tires? Judging from where the shocks are going to live, it looks like there may be a wide body kit in this things near future.
😄 12:30 that fly was helping with the math
Man the measuring part is crazy lol I was so confused but I get what you saying but has to be done right for better results 👌🏼 but looking good bode I know you got this very interesting project right here #bodesquad #projectbettywhite
Wow, taking a big step by doing so! :-0 .
Haha your like me when cutting and grinding, bundled up tight like a winter storm
Jake Clauson yeah man. Days of metal dust gets old lol
Thank you for explaining everything any plans for color changing ??
el noto logo not sure yet. What do you think would look good?
You are loco.
And very gifted bro.
Luv the intro. Maybe there’s hope for a colorblind painter yet....
Have you thought on maybe using portions of the firewall and the transmission tunnel from the GTO on the honda?
I am just going to build a custom trans tunnel as it’s probably less work to build one rather than trying to make two different half’s a whole.
camber and toe isnt too important, what is important is that the roll centers, caster and king pin inclination remain similar if not the same. MotoIQ have an Ultimate suspension guide, explaining everything you need to know about suspension and more. I'd recommend you have a glance over it.
Getting into the nitty gritty of it! I like the Google 🌎 analogy of the build.
Thanks for breaking down the mathematics of it in an easily understandable fashion. 🧠
You got a great following here with good questions & plenty of support. 💪🔥💯

Any chance you still have the Accord motor mounts and they were oem?
I’m flying to the moon next week after watching this video 😂 wow lol good stuff lol
I’m not sure how you got what you did with one length and one angle... Did you use the height of the GTO strut as the other length?
You will be so far ahead to ditch the GTO strut towers and build that whole section out in 3/16 plate. Then you can mark the location for the e36 top hats.
Wait to build out the towers till you get your shocks for mock up.
12:23 I almost blew on my phone when that fly landed on your notebook
Abraham Kiplagat that’s a Honda engineering drone 🤣🤣
4-5 degrees caster should be okay, but I would have erred on the high side. McStrut likes lots of caster. 5-6 degrees would be cool. Not a huge deal though, it should drive well regardless, it just affects self steer.
Numbers, good job bode 🍊
I'm assuming the height of the struts is being taken into account so the hood will still fit/close? Looking great I love this project 👌
you plan on keep the strut tower brace or just using it for reference? looks like it won't clear the hood. enjoyed the vid 👍🏽
alphonsevallery probably just for reference. Once I drill holes for the e36 tops the brace might not even fit. We shall see
Jimmy oaks is doing a great drive honda useing a 240 sub frame. Should check out his vid from couple days ago and see how he done his rear shock towers
Sweet Tee his singular one shock tower lol
Using the iPhone as a level for suspension geometry reminds me of how when the iPad came out FAA had to warn part time pilots not to use iPad GPS for flying.
If you’re going to completely rebuild the tower and still drill it out for E36 tops it would probably look better and be easier just to have someone cut a couple of plates for the E36 tops and build your own towers
I understand not being able to just whack some custom coilovers in and call it a day, but did you decide to keep the suspension as GTO as possible because you like how a GTO drives or just because it's an already proven design? While you're already redoing everything, it couldn't be that hard to make the entire suspension setup full custom and get something really optimized.
Putting in serious work, great content
Don't forget to consider hood clearance as well.
Numbers and math in a BodeVision video!?
NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRD
Nice logo. That accord is clean too! Are you gonna rock the antique plates?
Braxton May yes I have an antique fl plate that I’m going to use and thanks man!
@@BodeVision hell yea brother! Tint and *louvers* bro. I already know you finna paint it!
Negative caster with the the tops of the knuckles tipped towards the rear, I 'believe' that'd be positive caster.
Note I've been alignment/suspension work for the last 30 years.
