    I watch a lot of grandmaster's games and I analyze them sometimes. But when Gilfand chose to queen side castle chose to be defeated like a lamb waiting to be slaughtered. The queen side had two pawn islands, and him to castle on that side also delayed the development of his rook. So it made it easier for magnus to calculate, you can see how comfortable he got after Galfend castle on the queen side.

      If he didn't, it would be another boring defensive game, 3 minutes should be always more dynamic but sometimes some nice games like this rise from the grave just because of a different variation, even if its castle, but because it was castle. I think it should be an incredible 15 minutes match.. anyway, against carlsen the end game is always a nightmare..

      to force the guys to use/give his queen as well, problably magnus had a strategy where the use of queen was not necessary and thus he "sacrificed" it to aquire the oponent queen.

    • @bastiantkd
      @bastiantkd 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      He had a column with his queen and rook so he didnt want to block that column in first place. Also he didnt want to isolate his pawn in c3 and e5, it would be 2 weaknesses. Black was pushed to get the queen, because that.

    • @curtish2541
      @curtish2541 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Magnus was trading queens and opening the center of the board for the bishop lines on the king. He was basically taking queen away from defending.
      His pieces were set up well to start an attack but he needed queen out of the way.
      The move I thought was brilliant was when he moved king to h2. He was three moves ahead at that point, and it kept him on the attack.

      @@davidpax no. You do not pick up a piece and then decide which piece to take it with. Some pieces cant take other pieces because of the way they move. You make your decision. You pick up the piece you want to take. The replace it with yours. Always remember, the pieces all move in different ways.

    So you get bishop in exchange for rook... Then why to resign?

      Black is pretty much hopeless after 1...Rd7 2. Bxb8 Kxb8 .3. d5. Two rooks is mighty force , cooperate very well and together with centralized white king they just massacre black kingside pawns and promote one of their own pawn . Being very experienced grandmaster Gelfand just did not want to go thru all this torture and humiliation. To resign was smart decision .

    • @Anant0909
      @Anant0909 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Black will be a full rook down means 5 points down after white bishop captures black rook. And then it's simple win for white. At GM level it's a simple win being piece up.

      @@TheDataArchitect If you play it out after this move there are several possibilities where Carlsen could have ended up in a much better position where I'm confident he could have mated. Those possibilities depend on how his opponent reacts to the dance that would follow after making that move
