I have a older KORG X-2 76 key work station and even this older keyboard can do these kind of splits.
I love your information that you give and your easy going method of teaching.
Tony you ROCK. And praying Gods blessings upon you.

I've done this and still do since I was 10. The keyboard at my house is a Yamaha YPT 310. It's 61 keys and at the church I play for has a Roland GW-8 and a Yamaha (forgot model number). The Roland has a Split where I can do both bass and comp and I use the Yamaha for soloing and also bass lines for fast songs.

On my 61 Key Nord-Electro 2, I Split the Jets Between B-24 & C-25 for LH Bass (using 16' Registration) and E-29 & F-30 for LH Chords (Using 8' Registration).
For "Pads," if you can put the Pad on an Expression Pedal and change the Tone and Envelope Characteristics.
I have a Roland VP-O3 (which is a close of an analog VP-330 but has MIDI) so far I've run it through an Expression Pedal, but I Dial it in different depending on Musical Situation.

This particular keyboard allows me to turn the sustain pedal off what ever part I want in building the split patches. Sometimes you have to go into the program or sound itself and edit the sustain pedal!!!! Thanks

Hi Tony. You mention having the 76-note keyboard and how you wished it had 88. This video is from 2013. Now in 2018, have you switched to an 88-note piano or synthesizer? I’m asking partly as a guy that’s toted around a Roland VR-09 for four years, enjoyed the sounds, been obligated to use its split patches when our bass player simply didn’t make it to the job (after having previously tried pairing it up with my (microKorg XL and its DW8000 bass sounds) and been tempted to supplement with the Juno DS88.
The fretless bass sound that you use at 11:45 would be ideal if you were going to perform the title track from the third Don Henley solo album, the End of the Innocence.

Marty, Slowing down helps but so does repetitive practicing. Try taking a song you really like playing and add a click (Metronome or drum pattern). Play the song for one hour. As your playing, little by little, play an improvised phrase and return to comping while running a bass line. By the end of the hour, you'll be better at playing some improvised phrases while not losing the beat! Let me know how this goes!

Tony, I really enjoyed the demo video. I've only heard you play organ before. The techniques you show are exactly what I try to do.
my weakness is soloing with single notes while I play walking bass lines. Do you have any ideas how to conquer this other than just slowing it way down?
