Morning Tony, I have a 22 plate DCT Non-Tour and think it is utterly brilliant. With Car Play, the sequence of start bike, connect headset (Ultimate Ears earplugs) then plug phone in, must be religiously followed. If you go inside you run the risk of breaking the Bluetooth radio link from bike to headset thus needing to start over. Great video, thanks.
I love the look of the bagger, it reminds me of a Judge Dredd bike, the green is lovely. I sat on one at Motorcycle Live last year and loved it, I love your attention to detail, Japanese bike and Japanese themed fish and chips. Odd that Honda haven't made the CarPlay wireless by now.
Nice one Tony, I have a 2019, DCT Tour, as has been mentioned connection order is essential for the CarPlay to work, then it’s seem less, to ride nothing beats it, in fact there’s no other bike made that gets near it, the glorious motor gets under your skin , everytime I open my garage door I smile
A lovely bike to have access to. I'm old enough to remember the original. Quite an impact it made. Incredible machine. If I could have a garage of ten, yes please. But for 25 bags you have an awful lot of choice... Ride safe 👍
Nice one Tony. Thank you. The Goldwing has always been my retirement bike dating back to the late 80’s. At 50 something, I’m still holding onto my sports bikes. However, as a proud Australian, where our Superbike Champion has also won the battle of the baggers on an Indian has made me think about what HRC could do with the Goldwing to compete against the equivalent HD and Indian baggers as weights and engine displacements are similar. Would love to see one of these with all the racing stuff thrown at it as Troy does race for Honda in Australia and he’s the perfect size for baggers being above average in height which is needed to keep these beasts as upright as possible. 🤔
The Bagger is my favourite Goldwing. It looks brilliant. 17:56 Perfect profile and lines. I can see why people buy Goldwings. Easy to ride, I'd wager. Good review, Tony. Regards, Nick
@@1990-t1j I had one, the bagger, it was all the things you said. However, the insane weight was always there, ready to bite you in the ass. It's why I sold it. My Harley feels light by comparison.
Love mine. Picos and Pyrenees are my preferred playgrounds and I haven't yet been unable to keep up with the S1000's and Super Dukes that others have taken. Off road aside there is nowhere I cant take the Wing that other bikes go. The difference is I can knock out 500 miles, and get off fresh, and ready for more. The ridiculous torque makes everything possible
Another great video and such relatable content. Many if my local roads too. Im sure i past you on the sudbury road as i saw a green goldwing going the other way and not many on the road round our way
I always like your touring videos -- even when its a short day's ride for lunch! It's a beautiful bike. I'm afraid that I am too short, poor, and old for an 800 pound motorcycle, but this bagger is really tempting.
We don’t often have fish n chips, and I can remember when the price of a large cod was less than those chips! How things have changed! You could take away fish n chips for the whole family on that Goldwing, mind you, you’d be £100 lighter! Phenomenal bike isn’t it. We prefer the look of the older, classically styled ones tbh 👍🏼👍🏼
Yep its not a cheap meal anymore! i always love it when i get the chance to ride one, it always feels like an 'occasion' I love the lokk of the older machines too, so many buttons!
Love the Bagger look and I can see the Goldwing on the radar in a few years. Great review. Must ask though what is that sunvisor you have on your helmet, I so need one on my Shoei. Please share.
I will give you the answer to the ultimate fish and chip run transport. My fish and chip shop is 2 km return from home, I don't take my bike, I take my mobility scooter instead, it has a 150km range, and goes 15kmphr, it is the best chip shop runner out there. It costs nothing to charge as I have offgrid solar. I didn't even buy it, DVA gave it to me. When everything is free, that is the best F&C shop runner you can have. I got the luxury version 200ah lithium, full suspension seat included, heated seat and handlebars, usb and 12 volt plugs led lights blinkers hazards, towbar, and dog trailer. To get all that on a daily rider I would be up for $20k. It was all free, Hardly ride my bike around town anymore.
Certainly an impressive bike. Given its size and weight it’s good that this “tuna boat” has a harbor pilot creep mode 😉. I enjoyed the local history lesson 👍, and it always geed to get our geopolitical situation explained by Monty Python 😆!
Nice one Tony. The wing looks so much sleeker and better without the top box/pillion set up. No skate or Rock eel option on the menu board 😞 My preferred fish options.
My top two are this and the Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports. If someone tossed this at me I would not object, but the Africa Twin is my poison of choice. Both of them ooze quality, but my preferred weapon would still be the Africa Twin.
Great bikes. I chose the previous gen for both price reasons and bigger luggage and comfort for two-up touring. No interest in dct either. Absolutely love the thing and find it feels not as top heavy as previous steeds such as Fjr1300s and MG Stelvio Ntx. No bother two-up fully loaded on gravel and fairly hard pack trails in Spain (any tougher and i wldn't ride 2up even on a lighter bike). By far my fave bike ever after having everything from busas and blackbirds to triumph tigers, fireblades, gsxrs, Africa twins etc.
If it’s anything like my Street Glide was, the CarPlay is sensitive to the order in which you connect everything. From memory you had to turn ignition on, turn Sena on then plug phone in. Any other order and it wouldn’t start CarPlay, so if the phone was already plugged in to the bike when you started it the CarPlay wouldn’t work. The correct order would work every time. I might have the correct order mixed up but a bit of experimentation will probably point to the right answer.
CarPlay on my AT1100 is the same, no rhyme or season to if it’s going to work. Keeping the cable fresh seems to help though, as does unlocking the phone on start up. However I do think it’s a Honda issue as CP works on my Transit every time all the time with the same device
I'd be happy with one of those in the right colour.. (and if i won a chunk o cash lol!) Nice ride out that by looks of it .. totally agree with the Suffolk chippy you mentioned Tony 👍(I visited that a few yrs ago!) The Japanese burger... I thought that was going to be raw fish 😅 👐
Me too! haha I got some grief for choosing that, but it seemed fitting given my steed. It's basically a piece of battered fish in a roll with some extras.
I adore the Goldwing, one of the few modern bikes that actually interest me, especially the Bagger! (Yes, a 23 year old is saying that) Out of curiosity, how are the headlights at night/difficult conditions? A lot of bikes nowadays struggle to get headlights right (let alone tail/brake lights), which is where companies like Denali come in to flood the road with lights that are probably a bit much at times
Although the price sounds hefty it’s not overpriced if you consider what sort of technology and riding sensations it provides. I wonder if it would be a good choice vs a big adventure bike as the only bike in the garage to do everything, touring, a bit of commuting, weekend blasts? What holds me back is that I ride a lot in the mountains and I don’t know how good such a big bike would perform in the twisties?
Could do with creep mode on my Roadglide. Japanese style fish burger? Oh la di da, had they run out of Yorkshire style fish n chips and chip butty wi mushy peas? Great bike by the way
Humm I dunno. Rode a 2018 along fabulous empty roads during the nuttiness of 2020, sold it when the market went nuts in 2021 - was offered pretty much what I paid for it - and here's the thing. I don't really miss it.
The real question is whether the 'Wing is dead. They haven't announced a new 2025 version, and that leaves us with the current 2024 bike which I believe is Euro 5 compliant, not 5+, and as such cant be sold from January 2025.
@@mancavemoto yes its well balanced bike, i test ride one,I had rocket 3gt rode 25000km,and a xadv 25000km,too,wana next bike if wing or a 1300gs with endro wheel, the one you ride matt green is my favorite one, best lookingwing haha,
It’s a stunning looking machine and the green works nicely. I know a couple of people with older models and they absolutely love them. If you have it for any length of time or fancy a slightly longer trip/tour. Try Fyne Fish and Chips in Inveraray. Possibly not the best of the best but stunning roads to get there and a beautiful bay to look out on whilst enjoying them :) Atb, Dave
Iconic machines, fabulous long-distance capabilities. Indeed I have owned 2 over the years. However, (and it is a *big* however) in my opinion they are now almost pointless on the ram-packed roads of the UK. Sure, you can filter, but not in the same way as I can on my NC750X. Sure, it's frugal for its size, but my NC750X does 100mpg on a run. Yep, it *does* handle, but believe me you have to be extremely competent to get the best from it. Whereas my NC loves twisty lanes. So, ultimately I became one of the many many people who say "I used to own a Gold-Wing". Throw in the now ludicrous cost and if I am going to spend that amount of money on a 'plaything' I would choose a decent Bentley Continental every time. The only way I would consider a G-W would be if I lived in the USA, where long straight empty roads abound.
In Paris there’s a taxi service to Paris CDG airport on Goldwings. They’re the fastest way to get (with handlugagge only) to the airport in time. It’s insane at what speed they filter through the gridlock Péripherique (the ringroad motorway around Paris), I ride a Ninja 1000sx and have to let them pass as they progress faster than me
Width wise theres not much difference (the wing is 6cm wider) but the length is also a contributing factor. In most traffic I found it OK, its only when you start squirming through city traffic it becomes an issue.
I got fed up with my GL1800 by its bulk and disadvantage in queuing traffic. I sold it and bought a Honda NC750X which I have now owned for 3 years. The NC is by far the most versatile bike I have ever owned. The G-W is ideal if you live in California and regularly ride to Hawaii. In the ram-packed roads of the UK the NC is king.
I just got charged $29.50 at Five Guys in Pasadena for a "Little bacon cheeseburger," a medium fries, and a soda. I actually said "wow, lunch is getting expensive," and the guys working there agreed.
Lovely review Tony - and a fabulous bike! (I would say that, I bought two!!)
Thanks Andy
Very few reviews seem to mention changing gear manually with the buttons, is that option pretty much redundant on these? Auto mode is that good?
Yep pretty much, the best option I find is to leave it in ‘auto’ and manual override with the buttons when you need it
At today's prices I can't afford fish & chips let alone a Goldwing to go & pick them up on.
I'd really like one of these. Never thought I'd be wanting a Gold Wing! 😎
