For me, I enjoy this type of video the most I think. When you just cruise around and show off the beautiful English countryside (I'm American). I also really enjoy the Biker Scran videos. And for what it's worth, I enjoy your calm, mature, dare I say professional approach to your dialogue. In other words no shouting, obnoxious "shock factor" nonsense
Thank you very much - I appreciate the kind comments!
The Goldwing is a fantastic piece of motorcycle engineering, and it's appropriate that you highlight it this year, as it's now the 50th anniversary of its introduction in 1974. I rode one of the old 1500cc models back in the 90's and it was a great experience. I imagine the latest models are even better. I don't really do long distance touring, but I'd still love a bagger model if I could afford one.
Worked as a despatch rider from the 80's and one our couriers ran a naked Honda GoldWing 1200 with a broken electric start.
He just bump started this beast every time..........
I find your videos a very relaxing, entertaining, informative way to start my week as I head off to work. Safe travels.
Awesome! Thank you!
I have the exact same model/color. Earler this year, with the wife on the back, we did the Sydney to Tasmania return trip and the Goldwing ate up the 5000ks there and back with absolute ease. For those that dont know Tasmania there is barely a straight road to be seen and has, by far, the best riding roads in Australia. Our lap of the island took in as many winding roads as I could fit in and the bike took everthing I could throw at it without an issue. It handles the twistys incredibly well considering its size, great fun. Look forward to hearing about your exploits on yours.
Sounds fantastic!
Andy, thank you for reminding me to get out and enjoy my ‘23 GW Tour DCT! I love it for all the same reasons you do. This September I’ll be riding it from Chicago to the Santa Monica Pier-the starting point and finishing destination of the old Route 66. Along with 15 riding buddies, we’ll be covering as much of the original route as possible. It’s a bucket list ride for me! Thanks, again, for the great GW content!
Sounds like a fabulous trip!! I used to work in Santa Monica on occasion - great spot….and some great rides up the coast through Malibu and into the hills…
Great to see the "Wing" back on the channel, always good to see you out and about on it. Looking forward to seeing your upcoming European Tour vids with Mrs Flyer and the Wing .
Andy: Your European tour on the Goldwing sounds great….if I had my time again I’d get one but as I’m 81 I’ll stick with my VFR! Someone in the comments suggested that maybe DCT turned people off; I wonder if they’ve ever ridden one.
A couple of years ago I bought my first automatic car (a Volvo XC40) after 60 years of manual’s….wish I’d had one much sooner, so relaxing to drive especially in a busy city where you can focus on avoiding cyclists, electric scooters and pedestrians (I live in Cambridge!). I’m assuming a DCT bike is a more relaxing experience, not only in cities but when long distance touring too.
Really enjoyed this video, so relaxing with the smooth engine note too. More Goldwing posts please.
Thanks Neil - and yes I'm with you on auto cars, such a relaxing way to travel (and great in traffic jams!)...
Hi Andy, my wife and I have ridden the Grossglockner two up, twice on our old Pan European ST 1100 without any issues. Admittedly not as heavy as your Wing but still a big bike. Would be a pity not to do it as it’s truly spectacular. TOP TIP. Zel am See is the nearest town, stay there, get up early and get it done before the crowds arrive!! Keep up the good work my friend. 😊
Thanks Don - that was our thinking....sounds like that's possibly a goer then but not Stelvio.....
@@TheMissendenFlyerHi Mr. Flyer! Großglockner should be no problem with the Goldwing 2up , fully loaded. Stelvio is another story. It is possible, but if you don’t feel comfortable, I recommend to to it as solo rider on a lighter bike. I did it last autumn with a 1250 GSA without any problem… a fantastic ride, an adventure… Greetings from Austria!
I’m happy to watch whatever you produce. It’s always well put together, entertaining and informative. It might not be a bike I’m particularly interested in, it’ll be filmed somewhere nice. Looking forward to the Euro tour! Keep up the great work 👍🏽🏍️🇯🇪
Thank you Matt - appreciate that!
Thanks to you I bought a 2019 manual Goldwing, what a fantastic machine, only regret I wished I’d saved up and bought a later model with the bigger top box.
Great to see the Goldwing, looking forward to the tour videos in Sept…safe travels!
My husband and I have just started going further afield on our bikes and look forward to hearing about your packing for a trip. I especially look forward to hearing from Mrs Flyer with regard to the skincare and toiletries she manages to squeeze in as I really struggle with this. (We also sail on our own boat, so limiting luggage isn't such an issue). Keep up the good work, love the variety of videos you put out.
Thank you Carol - glad to hear that! ...stay tuned!
Hi Andy, saw you today (16th /June /24) at The Ponderosa on the Gold Wing wanted to say Hi but didn’t want to interrupt as you were with friends.
I’m an avid viewer of your superb professional video reviews in fact I bought a Triumph Street Twin on the back of your review and I’m very happy with my purchase. keep up the good work and have a safe journey.
Hope you had a great days ride, lovely day in Wales today!
Love, love, love the tours two up with Mrs Flyer. More Mrs Flyer on her bike would be great (she's a star). Great channel, best bike channel on TH-cam. 👌
Wow thank you very much! …and noted!
My wife and I both enjoy watching the tour videos, and I think we made our way through all of them over the winter. She wants us to get a Gold Wing so she can enjoy the ride too. My old 1998 Honda Shadow 750 ACE was not very passenger friendly, and I don't think I'll be taking anyone with me on the new Versys 650, unless I magically grow a couple of inches. My son and I took our bikes to Twillingate this morning, where I got to break in my new TMF neck tube. A wonderful addition to my riding gear. Looking forward to your next video!
Top man - be careful wearing my merch, it drives the ladies wild!
Honda Gold Wing an absolute Legend of a motorcycle with a rich history going back decades.
The King of Tourers.
Agreed!
I enjoy pretty much everything you post, even if the motorcycle isn’t one I would ride, just being out on the road on any bike is enjoyable, looking forward to the tour video, living in Australia is so far from Europe so being able to see the country side through your videos is the next best thing to riding it myself. Take it easy.
Oh wow - thank you for that - much appreciated!
Just out of interest my mate dropped his Goldwing but despite its weight he was able to lift it upright by himself even though he is a bit weedy. When I asked him how he managed it he pointed out how low the engine was which actually made lifting it up quite easy.
Anyway lovely bike and look forward to your tour videos.
My wing is 1999. Love it one up or two up. Cant stop anywhere without someone coming up and asking questions. Just about to bed it down for winter. Maintenance time!! which oddly enough is almost as much fun as riding it. Looking forward to next season touring so in the meantime we will tour vicariously through you and Mrs Flyer. Keep up the good work.
Thank you - will do!
where are you?
NZ
@@forgit4562 Aussie here I can ride all year round..but I get it 😊
This is a great channel you say a true review of every bike, and the tours are fantastic.
Very kind of you Robert - thank you....
Love my '2018 White Tour DCT! Just so fun to ride! Thank you for the great content on each video.
Hey TMF! Great to see you out on the Goldwing again. Such a great sounding bike. I just changed the suspension on my old ST1100 Pan European and she’s completely rejuvenated. Definitely going to stay in the garage for a little longer. If you and Carol are going to be anywhere near the East of Lyon, let me know. We could do a Goldwing/Pan special! Cheers!
What did U do to the pan
@@malone-np3ip New rear shock as the old one was finito, then drained, flushed and refilled the front shocks. All the seals are still in good condition.
Thank you Mr. Flyer. I'm happy to see the "Wing" up and about and glad you use all your bikes as often as you can. I'm now even more determined to get my old Suzuki Sv650s back on the road even if I decide to sell it shortly after.
I'm really looking forwards to seeing you and Mrs. Flyer on tour. Have a coffee on me opd boy. :>)
I can absolutely recommend the Großglockner 2-up fully loaded on the GW. I guess due to the tolls, this road is immaculately maintained. Predictable, wide and well-marked with no really nadgery stuff. We thoroughly enjoyed it last year. The views are stunning as well as the ride. The Stelvio is something else altogether. We also rode that and spent time trickling the Wing through double-back hairpins, trailing rear brake against the throttle in the tightest ones to keep the DCT locked in. Very rewarding but concentration levels on broken, busy, technical roads not really enjoyable on such a long, heavy bike. This year, Dolomites were scuppered in early June by heavy rain with snow! We'll try again next year! Enjoy the trip!
Thanks for that!
Good to see the big Honda out and about Andy , smooth driving at its finest .👍😁
Sure is! Love this thing!!
I'm not a lover of that style of bike, but I can certainly appreciate the comfort it must give on long days in the saddle.
It certainly does, I’ve never ridden another Bike as comfortable.
Don’t let the Stelvio frighten you. I did it in my top heavy triumph tiger 1050 fully loaded with the wife on the back. Was great. I concentrated on the road ahead and she checked up around the corners and let me know what was coming. Worked a treat. Don’t miss out you’ll love it.
Dolomites are brilliant for riding, especially if you like twisty roads. Absolutely stunning scenery too, and of course good food options
We were in Lichtenstein and Chamonix a few months ago, and it’s well worth a visit. You can hit Switzerland, Austria and L’Stein all within half an hour, which is fun, and some incredible views. There’s a little bridge there where you can have one foot in L’Stein and one in Switzerland 😃, and the drive south into the alps is spectacular. Look forward to the vid 👍👍
Good to see the wing out again
Most people don’t get the goldwing but I bought one last year (2019 bagger) and I love it
The wife loves it and we don’t even use it for touring but it’s such a good bike it’s a pleasure to ride and that’s coming from a sports sports tourer bike background
Good aren’t they - always an occasion when you’re out on the wing!
So glad to hear you're on the mend and feeling better, love see the big Goodwing . Keep them coming buddy
Thanks! Will do!
Great bike Andy, I honestly think if money were no object I'd have one too! I see Guy Martin has a bagger version, he knows a thing or two about bikes as we all know! Cheers matey, ride safe! Fingers crossed re the weather.
Best way to clean the bike screen(or car windscreen), get a clean microfibre cloth, preferably large enough to cover the whole screen, run it under a warm tap, wring out the excess then just hang it over the screen for ten, fifteen mins, this rehydrates the dead insects and they wipe off very easily with another microfibre cloth, kitchen towel can actually scratch the acrylic!
They intrigue me although miles away from what I’m looking for in a bike. What TMF brings to motorcycle journalism is the honesty of the average rider without the machismo of ‘proper bike journos’. Good job
...that and I'm not a journo of course (but thanks for the kind comment)
We did a European tour last year on the FJR including the Stelvio Pass and the furtka pass, it was absolutely amazing. Highly recommended😊
Rode my trusty Ducati Supersport down from Suffolk to Brixham Devon yesterday for a week of biking fun including Paignton bike meet on Wednesday, nothing better than a motorbike tour whatever the bike. Cheers Andy.
Sounds great!
Sorry a bit late to the party with a comment. Very much looking forward to another tour series. The more info you can provide regarding the practicalities of touring abroad the better ( from my point of view) As someone who has only toured in the UK and not yet ventured abroad being able to pick up hints and tips on riding in Europe as well as being entertained would be the perfect mix. 👍🏍
Duly noted! Thanks….
Lovely, gentle ride and lively, gentle commentary. Wish you’d stop making me spend money though. Bought a Kawasaki Z900 RS SE after watching your videos and now so, so tempted by the Goldwing. Keep up the great content Andy. 😀
Clearly you have great taste Sid!
Riding the Gross Glockner with a fully loaded Gold Wing is a nice pass. The curves are wide and big enough to take without any risk. The views are marvelous. I have riden this road with pleasure.
Yes I think we’ll give it a go then!
Yes, both the passes you mentioned are doable on the GoldWing. We did them on rented BMW 1250s as 3 couples from Canada, and the trunks were on the bikes. They are tricky and tight but amazing. Have fun. Love your channel, and BTW, I watched your tour videos on the Wing before buying my 2024 GW Tour DCT. I love the bike. First, non Harley in 30 years. It's very different, but I love it.
Good aren’t they….
Yep, my top for cleaning a screen after a long ride in the summer (if we ever get one this year) when its covered in dead flies is drape a damp tea towel over it when you get back for an hour or so, then they just wipe off. Easy. You can also do it with the visor on your helmet as well.
I’m thinking this summer might be a write-off!
Another great video and please keep them coming. The Goldwing looks brilliant and must be amazing for touring long distance. All the best with the shoulder recovery.
Thanks Kelvin - will do!
I like the review but anticipated more comments on the DCT. I have a smaller NC700 DCT and find it priceless for stop-and-go city driving.
Yes it is great in town isn’t it…
You definitely got your hands on one of the best GW colours (subjective of course) - have you seen this year's choice: dull or duller!
Great vid thanks.
Yes I was rather fortunate there!
Nice one Andy. Thank you young sir. Interestingly a good friend of mine has recently purchased one of these with the goal of “slowing down”. I was fortunate to take it for a ride up and down what Melbourne based people would call the best roads for two wheels. Refton Spur and the Black Spur. Must say this reaches its limits quicker than anything else I’ve ever ridden in 46 years. So, we decided to book it in for a ride day at Phillip Island (my old home racetrack, which I have PB’s on several bikes. I must say it was an interesting experience as you can ride anything around the racetrack. I deliberately asked to be put in the beginner group hoping my 15 years of racing would help to negate this behemoth of a machine and although we knew it couldn’t corner at speed, not be ridden with a fast in and out approach (you need lean angle for either method), the end lap times, were better than expected. Could only get 2 “quick” laps out of it until the brakes turned into mashed potatoes. However, if anyone wants to just tick the box of being able to leisurely riding around a top course then it really doesn’t matter what you’re capable of doing. Just enjoy and ride free.
Agreed! I’d love to ride mine on a track one day…!
We went to Liechtenstein in 2022 just to say we'd been and I must say, I'm pleased we did because it means we don't need to go back 😂
Hey mate, I did the Stelvio in 2017 two-up fully loaded on a K1600GT with no issues. I did however see an R1200RT lying on its side on one of the last switch-backs near the top. Like everything else, take your time and think ahead and you would be fine. Your only here once!!
Thanks for the info!
Great ride out Andy, its good to hear what you have planned and i look forward to following your tour with Mrs Flyer👍 All the best with your shoulder too and I hope it improves.
Thanks 👍
Good to see the blue one out again! For your Wing Tour of Europe: Liechtenstein (your pronunciation was reasonably correct): Unless you are willing to take the road to Malbun and back (it's a dead end), it's a fairly boring ride. But so is the Swiss side and the views are good. And indeed, you want it off the list (that's why I made a small detour last year going to Chur). I would recommend to keep going until Davos and then take the Flüela pass. Beautiful views and perfectly doable for your Goldwing (even large HGVs take that pass). Keep following the Inn and you'll end up in Austria. The L13 from Oetz to Innsbruck along Kühtai is also a gem and a nice breakaway from the fairly boring main road through the Inntal.
Whatever people say about Goldwings and the Grossglockner, it's not so much if you CAN (because you can) but if you would want to. Leave something to explore for the Kawa!
I could bang on for hours on French mountain passes, but you'll have no problems to find something nice there. And the B500 won't disappoint you, but also do take the occasional side road and keep your speed in check. Maybe before you leave, read up on the "Schweigekilometer" at Baden Baden, could be an interesting item for your video.
Thanks for that Martin - all duly noted!
I love your tour videos, and I love the Goldwing I’m just back from the Isle of Man from the TT which was a very enjoyable 2 weeks took my old Yahama XT500 which was a nut and bolt rebuild this was its first big outing and its longest run I’m glad to say it performed brilliantly and did not let me down at all
Brilliant!
Good to see the wing again, the wife and I are currently doing the Wild Atlantic Way on our RT, couldn’t stretch to a wing, and frankly the 287kg BMW is too much for me anyway at times. Stayed in a hotel in Cobh that had a deep gravel car park and it was a real struggle to keep it upright.
Gravel is my nemesis!!
I'd say the Grossglockner is very doable 2 up on the wing. We did ot last year (admittedly on a lighter vstrom) and it was our favourite Alpine pass so far. It's not as nadgery as some and the road surface and bend radii are fabulous.
Be aware there is a hefty toll, about 30 quid but imo its worth it as they appear to spend it on the road.
Looking forward to the vid.
Sounds great to me!
Highly recommend the route... Black forest, lake Constance zelum-zee, gross glokner, over and down into Italy. Can't say whether you would struggle on the Goldwing - but to be honest, it would be difficult to avoid the hairpins and twisties on ANY of those routes over the Alps. It is riding heaven!
Sounds brilliant!
It’s always dangerous watching your Goldwing videos as they make me want to trade the Harley’s and get one as my sole bike! Love your work as always .
Go on, you know you want too!
And that’s the problem …
YOLO!
Honda just makes such a solid bike. It is a future buy to add to my GS. As for future episodes: tips and tricks are my favorite-love your ACF50 and cleaning vids.
Looking forward to seeing the tour later in the year! The Grossglockner is doable on the Wing. Top tip: enter at the northern end, ride south and when you see the southern entry point, spin around and ride it all over again for the one fee (€33)!
Albania is a challenge. Amazing scenery, iffy roads, psycho drivers, friendly natives. Incredibly cheap.I loved it.
I’ve done both Grossglockner and Stelvio passes on a full loaded FJR1300. It was a breeze and not to be missed. Go for it with the missus. Would love to see the vid as one of your touring fans. Coaches do these regularly it’s no big deal. 👍
Must thank you for putting me onto the rukka lahti jacket a couple of months ago myself and my wife bought them and found them to be great, a couple who we ride out with also bought them. That's another £400 worth of kit Sportsbike shop have sold on your recommendation 👍
Good stuff - glad to help!
@@TheMissendenFlyer Thanks for your reply my wife and I are waiting for your next tour, the Grosglockner is a good one for the wing nice smooth roads just don't try to get up to the top cafe you would regret it. A tip for cleaning your visor is kitchen towel damp over it for 5 min all bug's melt away no scratches.
Simon Weir does some excellent bespoke tours,he did one for us last year similar to what your thinking of we booked the hotels and his gpx routes took us to the door, highly recommended. Blink and you will have ridden through lichtenstein!
Yes Simon is a top fella isn't he.....
Hi Andy, always appreciate a Gold Wing video ! Especially one in that blue ! They used to sell the Valkyrie in blue but are very difficult to find now.
That tour sounds good looking forward to that . Off to the French Alps in the next couple of weeks. I did the Stelvio 2 up on a Kawasaki GTR 1400. A few years back. Bloody hard work. Never again.
Good intel Peter - thanks for that....and enjoy your trip!
I always liked what Regular cars said about these bikes - (I paraphrase) - it’s so smooth, so fast and so well built, it almost gets away from motorcycles are about. Truly the Gold standard of motorcycles ..
Absolutely love them. Might try one, one day, I just can’t seem to wrench myself from the Blackbird at the moment. (Another Honda flagship, of which you did a great review of)
Yes the Blackbird is a beaut for sure…I think you’d love the ‘Wing.
Hi Andy.
Glad the shoulder recovery is going well, and that you're able to handle the wing.
I looked at a similar summer trip myself, but circumstances and logistics have delayed it slightly.
With the Olympics and then the football, I've opted for late August early September. Dolomites, Switzerland, Germany and the B500 on the way home.
It'll be good to see your trip.
Have a good one, and it's better to get bird poo on the screen than on your jacket. It's so much easier to wipe off.
Thx
G
Good point!
I'm a Brit in Maryland USA and picked up my new 2024 bagger Goldwing 4 weeks ago. It now has 1200 miles on it and with regards to your comments about upgrades there are a couple I would like you see. The first is a voltmeter reading which surprisingly is not on the Goldwing. My 2022 NC 750x dct had it as standard and I found it very reassuring each day to check both the voltage with the engine off and when running to ensure the charging system was working properly. To do this on the Wing I would have to open the pannier, remove the side panel and put a voltmeter across the battery terminals. There isn't even an accessory power socket on the bagger other than the USB , but of course that is where the phone plugs in for Android Auto etc
The second upgrade i would like to see in the display is both tire pressures simultaneously instead of having to select each tire separately. I suspect that despite the size of the control panel, much of it is taken up with the two large analogue speed and rev counter gauges. As an old guy myself approaching my 70th year I understand the nostalgia of analogue dials but they do preclude use of the space for other data such as perhaps an altimeter and trip analysis data.
After 4 weeks and 1200 miles I'm still struggling with Google maps on Android Auto and often give up and return to the Goldwing's own navigation screen which I find much simpler.
Moving from the NC 750x dct to the Wing dct was inspired by thoughts of transcontinental USA trips, but I must confess I'm still getting used to the 300lb weight difference, which for someone my age is not negligible. But suspension, self cancelling indicators and cruise control are all pluses I didn't have on the NC.
Many thanks for your videos which I do watch and I am a subscriber. I enjoyed the Welsh Wing video and look forward to seeing your European jaunt.
Gordon Chase.
Welcome to Wing ownership Gordon! ...and thanks for stopping by....
When in Italy, if you're not too far from Lake Como, you could ride around there, perhaps visit the Guzzi factory and see if you can ride the V100 Mandello S and the Stelvio ! 😃
Yes I love Como - I've actually taken off and landed from the lake....
Good evening, Mr Flyer! Really nice to get a Gold Wing video again.
As for your European tour, I never could never quite get that whole Limey B500 fixation. It is a nice enough road but heavily crowded and even more heavily policed. It is a ridge road and the by far better bits all all the small curvy lanes leading up to it from the surrounding valleys. As a matter of fact I know several dozen Black Forest roads I would choose over the B500.
Lake Constance is really good (if a bit crowded in Summer) with a motorbike, particularly if you take the surrounding regions into account like the Black Forest, the upper Danube valley, the Bregenzer Wald and Appenzell.
Liechtenstein isn't much to write home about in itself but Appenzell (see above) is just on the other side of the Rhine. But Liechtenstein is directly en route from Lake Constance to the Stelvio and you will be passing through Heidi country.
Stelvio itself is well worth the trip, however you should be careful what time you do it on what day. Early Saturday afternoon is usually a bad idea. But it is unlikely you could do worse on the Wing than all the GS riders you can see on YT.
The Dolomites are absolutely breathtaking but have been totally overrun by tourists so that the local authorities plan to implement a road access by ticket system. Again, avoid the weekends.
Personally, I am not a fan of the Glockner road but I guess you have to do it once in your live. It should be mandatory for climate change deniers.
And you should definitely do the Mangart road once you are in the area.
Oh, and sorry to hear your shoulder still isn't all okay. I suppose physio and gym already is the order of the day?
Thanks for that - duly fed into our planning!
I was in Lichtenstein last week not much open on a Monday regards to food or bars. Worth keeping in mind.
Thanks for that….
Great to see the Wing again Andy. I was never a fan of older versions but this one looks the business and the sound is epic too. 👌 Can’t wait to see the European tour video later in the year. Keep up the good work. 😊👍
Yes the older versions of the Goldwing were hideous to my eyes - where as this "new" bike is actually a lovely thing...thanks for the kind comments!
I bought a bagger after watching your last video on the Goldwing, omg I love it ,
That is awesome!
Kitchen roll ! Same technique for your fly spattered visor, plant sprayer, kitchen roll-job done ✔️
Agreed....
I've enjoyed your past tour videos and look forward to seeing your next one. Hope your GS is not getting jealous. Have watched and read a lot of reviews about Gold Wings. They usually start out with the author saying it's an old man's bike......that is until they whack the throttle open and ride one.
Indeed - Modern day GoldWings are a different animal to what they used to be!
Last Monday I needed to rush Mrs M's laptop to her at school as it had been omitted from her school bag 😱. In rush hour traffic around Gloucester and Cheltenham my GW non tour DCT was fast and nimble as I threaded through the traffic. Yes they take practice but are phenomenal. Take a test ride if you can as you'll be amazed.
I agree....
Thanks for the update on the 'Wing, Andy! As the owner of a 2005 (30th Anniversary edition) Goldwing, I would gently disagree with the characterization of the bike as a "one-trick pony." Of the 85,000+ miles that I've put on mine, fewer than half of those have been via touring. In the Midwest USA, at least, it is a viable commuter, a handy grocery-getter, and Sunday fun-ride machine. It handles better than any 800-pound bike has a right to, and is fun on the twisties (so long as one respects the weight.)
Love your videos, and always look forward to the next! Thanks, again! ☺
Thanks Daniel - maybe I should qualify that as an English rider they are a one trick pony, I suspect owning one in the US makes somewhat more sense - I’d love to ship mine over for a tour there someday.
Bit biast with your goldwing as we know you're a total fan boy 😂😂😂 nice to see it again mind. And some of us did watch the wales one. It is a cracking bike and it would certainly be great to see you on a big tour on it👍
Cheers Robert!
Great content Andy, keep it up! Would love the used bike reviews, many of us buy them second hand, even in the USA. 😂
Looks like Superbike Factory (oddly) aren't inbterested :0(
Love your videos on the Goldwing, and definitely a one trick pony. But one that does it brilliant. Always said that if ever I got rid of the car and went solely on two wheels (Mrs H obviously had the final say) lol, the Goldwing would of been my go to choice. Yes, add the radar cruise control, but don't think I'd add anything else. Can't wait to see your next European tour on this bike.
Yes that sort of trip is what this bike is all about…
Good morning Andy, Nice day for a ride, Time to hop on the bike. GW fan and enjoy the tours. Rolls Royce the Goldwing Of Cars. You got ot take it out and get it dirty occasionally. So you can have more fun washing it. 😀
Liking your style John!
I for one have thoroughly enjoyed all the GoldWing content, it’s a fantastic machine! I have similar tour planned in the coming few weeks, covering some Alpine passes and the Italian lakes on my 1983 R100RS…. Will be interested to see how my route differs from yours but will enjoy riding yours vicariously through your video 👍
I’m so close to pulling the pin on a 2021 Gold Wing tour here in Alberta Canada locally in a grey colour. Only has 3000km for a grand total of $32,000 CDN = £18,000 which seems a good deal, compared to new prices. My wife’s little legs are struggling climbing aboard the Trophy SE 🤣🤣🤣 she sat on the Wing and a Harley ultra classic both around the same price. Definitely was closer to me on the Harley, we will see 🤷♂️🤷♂️ heading to Texas for 3 weeks with work, so will see when we get back. Kind of getting like you in the garage I got 2 MinimCoopers an Aprilia Mana, T120 gold line, Trophy SE and maybe a Wing/Harley/Indian touring rig 🤷♂️🤷♂️ keep the channel as is TMF 👍👍👍 always love coming to see what your up to, the trips with the wife are great 👍👍 I love taking the wife with me on tours. Need to keep someone close for my wallet and phone locations 🙄🙄🙄 anytime I go on my own I loose something. Then again when I take the wife, she wants to keep, adding stuff to the already overloaded bike 😳😳😳
Tell me about it Colin! Like the sound of your collection, plenty of British stuff 👍🇬🇧
Sounds like you’re almost ready to part with the speed twin.
I just happen to know a lovely place that it can come and live out its retirement.
Sounds like you are on the mend, with the shoulder. Glad to hear it.
Sadly, things have taken a downturn since I filmed this video😔
Delighted to hear about shoulder progress Andy. Sorry the pain is still acute. Look forward to the EU Gold Wing travels ..
Love seeing the wing out and about. Looking forward to watching your tour - please give us a good look at the route planning, I fancy giving it a go myself👍
Will do!
Splendid little vlog! That bike is phenomenal. I used to have a ‘77 GL 1000 back in the late 90s. It was superb, even then. They were always massive until the current shape, which looks to be bang-on. Good to hear the shoulder is on the mend, though it sounds like still a fair way to go with it, so best wishes for that. Looking forward to the ‘Wing tour, and it’d be awesome to see a return to some classic bike reviews. Thanks for the tip re getting rid of bird-shit! Lucky it didn’t get in the open visor; that could have been tasty. Great stuff as ever, Andy.
Eww what a thought.....you speak from experience Jez?
@@TheMissendenFlyer Ha, thankfully not. Plenty of flies, though.
I use the wet kitchen roll method on my visor.
Keep up the excellent work Andy.
Me too!
Being a biker and never having chance to ride this bike my imagination is that this is Merc S-class like driving experience. Drove S class and love it, gotta try and take this bike for a spin from dealer. Cheers from Poland
Give it a go - I think you'll love it. I was in Poland this time last year - cracking weather and a beautiful country!
Nice to see the Wing again TMF. I am loving my DCT-equipped NT1100 and I know what you mean by the effortless way in which the DCT machines cover distance.
That wing engine sounds lovely. I'm dead jealous of your planned trip. I have been over to France recently for the Moto GP and it has whet my appetite for another big Euro Trip. Slovenia is lovely. I stayed in a bike friendly B&B in Austria and did day trips over to Slovenia (Lake Bled) and Cortina in Italy. Unfortunately The Grossglockner was snowed up. It was only September! There is a nice Porsche museum in Gmund Carinthia if you are passing.
Hi Andy. Enjoyed your video on the Goldwing, as I do pretty much all of your vids. Not a Goldwing fan but interestingly just met the lady president of the Wing owners club of Finland at a biker hotel south of Hannover. She was on her way to Venice and I was on my way back from the 8 hours endurance race at Spa. It gave me more of an insight and understanding of this mastadon. Anyways..you were questioning the ability of it to do Stelvio and Gross and Glockner. Golckner is do-able and a fantastic road with wider sweeping turns and magnificent views and stop offs with and intersting KTM museum at the top..its a toll road so but in advance. Stelvio..hmm. I spent many an hour watching Harleys and Wings scraping their way round the corners on Stelvio and if you meet a bus at the wrong time and have to put you foot down it can get a bit hairy..you can see what coming well in advance and plan accordingly mind. If you were going to attempt it then I highly recommend going up it from the Livigno / Bormio side. The way up is more flowing and the way down the other side pretty demanding but easier to go down than up on a heavy bike. I have done it on my Daytona 995i alone aplus my 1050 ST and Tiger 800 XRT 2 up over the years and its a must for any biker but I would think twice 2 up on your bike. If you take in the Dolomites then Sella Ronda is abso must but also to be taken with caution on your machine.. Well thats it for now. Steve from DK. PS, just joined up as member..not the sharpest knife in the drawer where IT is concerned and wasnt aware of it..sorry for watching for free up til now ;)
Thank you very much - joining isn't compulsory but thanks all the same!
Andy, I enjoy all your channels content and I'm already looking forward to your next tour series. Bye the bye, the wet kitchen roll trick also works a treat on helmet visors👍
Yes I do the same!
Wow... Those are the 2 bikes I also have in the Garage!... Z900RS and a 2021 GL Tour DCT! I love both!
Absolutely love the goldwing and the dct would suit me down to the ground another brilliant video
Thanks 👍
Hi Andy! As someone who generally doesn't have the patience for the longer touring videos, but who is also an avid skier, I am looking forward to the alpine section on your upcoming tour!
As for your Gold Wing content, for me it's very much a case of the golf syndrome. It is a lot more fun to play golf than to watch it, and I feel the same about the GW. I'm sure it's a fantastic bike to be on, but it's not very interesting to look at/listen to/see being ridden. I guess it could almost just as well be a car to me. Maybe even a VW Golf, so technically it would be the golf/Golf syndrome!
Thank you for telling me!
I absolutely love mine, a 2019 DCT Tour, it’s probably the most misunderstood motorcycle out there, so easy to ride , fast , sounds fantastic, and the DCT reverse and forward creep function makes it so easy to manoeuvre around.
May I ask what the jacket is you’re wearing in the video, looks like a gilet over a jacket
Love touring videos, look forward to the European trip. Would love to see an updated Scotland trip 😊
Your Euro tour sounds like fun, I'll look forward to watching that.. When you come back through France, if you're in the region of Dijon, I can recommend the D971 from Dijon to Troyes .. it's a cracking road and will suit the Goldwing ..
Ooh thabks for that - know that area quite well but only by car and aeroplane thus far.....
Love my 21 plate DCT tour. only issue i had was seat hight, coming from a very low VN900.
The cure was a pair of those Daytona boots with the in built riser.
Crikey - I find the GW super low as it is - can I ask how tall you are?
@@TheMissendenFlyer yes sorry i meant to say on the comment.
I’m 5’6” 28” inside leg and turned 70 April just passed so shrinking by the day 😂😂😂
My VN900 seat heights was 26.6” i think the wing is just under 30”
This is a bike that makes you wish that you had a bigger garage. Great video TMF👍👌
Great to see the Goldwing out and about, It always reminds me of Judge Dredd for some reason. Glad your shoulder is a bit better, looking forward to watching the European tour, I still remember the Japan tour fondly.
So do I!
Enjoyed the vid. Would highly recommend the touring screen. Made a huge difference to my 23 DCT. Also I ceramic coated the day it was fitted and comes up like new with just a garden hose down. I am still getting use to it only had since mar and it’s very different to the K1600 but my better half is much more a fan girl 👍
Nice one - and yes I had mine ceramic coated before I picked it up from the dealer too - defo helps keep it clean. Do you miss anything from the K1600?
The main thing I miss from the k1600 is the riding position I felt more part of the bike. The wider width of the wing makes me feel a bit more on top of the bike rather than part of it. Only done 2k so far but taking it to Spain at the end of summer with the boss so will have to adapt
