    Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is on a state visit to the United States, where he held talks with U.S. President Joe Biden. Both leaders agreed to deepen cooperation in the military and other fields. Looking back, Japan and the U.S. used to be in opposing camps during World War II. Decades later, the two countries now emerge on the world stage as close allies.
    From enmity to alliance, has Japan been on a path of Americanization? From the ashes of war and hostility, how did Japan build a new relationship with the world based on its relations with the U.S.? In this special report, we take a journey through history to chart how Japan-U.S. relations got to where they are today.

    People should google a graph of Japans GDP vs US and see a country that willingly gave up its future to please it’s American masters. The country has stagnated since the 90s

      You should see a graph of Japan's GDP from after the war between the 1945-1980s where Japan went from a bombed out island to becoming one of the wealthiest economies in the world with American aid, and again. Japan has been a fully independent and self determined nation since the American withdrawal.

      @@kicokyaw1039 WRONG! America hasn’t withdrawn, it’s troops are still stationed in Japan and Japan pays them for the privilege 😊.
      America was happy with Japan growing until it appeared it would potentially overtake the US, then they got kneecapped.
      US was also happy dealing with China to counter USSR and for cheap goods, now that China looks like it may overtake USA, it’s leaders want a war.

    Japan is a vessel of the U.S., something like 80 years after WW2, there's still a heavy U.S. military presence on Japanese soil. Japan isn't even allowed their own military. Domestically Japan has control but, internationally they must follow U.S. lead.
    This is a vase difference in how China has treated Japan for thousands of years. The relationship was one of teacher and student while with the U.S., it's one of master and servant.

      What an odd comparison, why don't you ask the Japenese how they feel about that one. The average Japanese heavily benefited from this......the country quickly rebuilt it's infrastructure and manufacturing sector. What a weird "master/servant" relationship where the servant gets to make a boatload of money while not having to protect itself or be militarily involved in world affairs.......how awful it must be that even a large portion of the older Japanese population, while not initially embracing, loved their incomings going up more than militarization and "sovereingty" itself. But yeah you're right, Japan is just one massive puppet that is doing the US' bidding and fighting its wars on all fronts while sacrificing resources left and right. While you can easily say they are now arming upon the wishes of the US, one can say it's not like China and Japan are the best of friends and are neighbors...China's blantant disregard of international law is of concern to the whole region and therefore arming up is the only logical choice.

    • @Supersacwithit
      @Supersacwithit 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @MrShenron89 The Japanese constitution is written by who? Japan had to accept unconditional surrender. It's the U.S. that didn't allow them to have a military.
      I never looked at the terms of the loans but, the U.S. was lending money to all of Europe via the IMF and World Bank from the Bretton Woods Agreement after WW2. No one said Japan didn't benefit. If you go to a bank and borrow money to buy a house, of course you benefit but, interest is paid to who?
      I hardly doubt it was just free money.
      No, the U.S. only talks about international order when it benefits them. The U.S. wrote the Monroe Doctrine and actually meddled in the affairs of Latin America via CIA.
      China has the ability to back up their claims. That's the only difference. If you actually take time to look into the South China Sea issue, Vietnam and Taiwan claims a huge area that overlaps Philippines' claims. Indonesia and Brunei Also has claims. As a matter of fact Vietnam was one if the earliest to station people in the contested Islands. China is late.
      We can talk about laws and rights, when it comes down to it, major powers like the United States doesn't ask for permission. The invasion of Iraq was illegal according to the international order.

      The US not only wanted to test those toys. They wanted to scare the Soviets that the US has those devastating toys. Japanese are not "whites", so their lives are of little consequence in the eyes of the US. Japan was already defeated, it was on the verge of surrendering. The toys were used by the US to show its power and also to take the "credit" for single-handedly "defeating" Japan. This narrative plus the toys allowed US to occupy Japan as a strategic vassal to contain both China and the Soviets(now Russia) in the Far East. Gotta give credit to how devious, ruthless, hypocritical and cunning the US is. And how good they are at framing narratives to whitewash their actions to make themselves look like the good guys. This is the "secret" of American power : excellent propaganda.

    It difficult to turn back now. The West has Americanise almost the whole world. Why? Soft power and the cold war. During the cold war the Americans used the Soviet bloc as the "bad guys" and sell themselves as the good guys. At the same time, many countries that emerged from their colonial times inherited English and a spoken, written language. Through media (and now social media), there is no end to how much English based media we consumed everyday. Our view of the west becomes favourable as their hollywood movies hit home and their narratives are "always correct". A thorough investigation by the United States shows that the story of Unit 731 was a communist fabrication.
      Unit 731 was originally an anti-epidemic unit. During the war with the Qing Dynasty, 90% of the Japanese casualties were due to epidemics of infectious diseases on the continent.
      For this reason, Japan later became to set up a unit to research water supply and epidemic prevention. Unit 731 was just one of them.
      After invading Manchuria, the Soviet army unfairly detained some members of Unit 731 and forced them to testify at the trial that "outrageous things had been done" using torture and other means. But this was a forced "confession" through death threats and unwarranted interrogation and torture. There was also an environment in which they were brainwashed as if the story they wanted POW to admit was actually done. Therefore, those veterans's confessions are not credible.
      It was in the 1980s that the story of Unit 731 came out again.
      It was through the novel "Devil's gluttony," which was published in a newspaper published by the Japanese Communist Party.
      The author of the novel said that he was inspired by Unit 731, but that the content of story was fictional. However, the communists took it as if it were true and made a fuss.
      And a report that seems to prove that the content written in the novel is true was also "discovered".
      The report said that this was a summary report of a confidential document signed an affidavit of 19 doctors of Unit 731.
      Because of this report, the Chinese believed Unit 731 had actually done something outrageous.
      The Chinese thought that in the archives of classified US documents, which had a habit of recording everything, there should be an affidavit signed by 19 doctors of Unit 731, objective evidence of human experiments, etc.
      The president of the United States at that time had been strongly backed by a big Chinese group in the United States, so he responded to demands of Chinese supporters for the investigation by spending about $30 million in U.S. tax dollars to conduct an in-depth study over a period of 8 years from 1999 to 2007.
      However, the "affidavits of 19 doctors" were not found.
      As you know, the President of the United States has the authority to declassify any confidential documents.
      Nevertheless, no "affidavits signed by 19 doctors" nor notes or reports as evidence of human experiments were found.
      In short, it has already been revealed decades ago that such a terrible story of Unit 731 is all propaganda fabricated by communist forces.

    pretty good overview overall, but to enhance the argument, a great example is that of Japan's economy during the Korean war.
    During the war, Japan profited greatly from supplying American troops without the need to get directly involved.
    Of course, in practical terms, Japan already has a military and missiles secretly stationed by the US, as previously leaked documents revealed, so I doubt its national security is realistically threatened.

      The people of the Korean Empire, including Lee Wanyong, wanted to be annexed by Japan rather than being colonized by China and Russia due to the collapse of national finances, and Japan was forced to comply and annexed the Korean Peninsula.
      After the annexation, Japanese was taught in schools on the peninsula to communicate with Japanese people, but Hangul was also taught at the same time.
      It is said that Manchuria was invaded and cut out by Japan, but in fact, Manchurians ruled and Manchurians mainly used Manchurian, as well as Chinese, Russian, and Japanese.

    • @115islandscompass6
      @115islandscompass6 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Japan's Pearl Habor did NOT pull the US into the war.
      British historian Colonel Russell Grenfell wrote,
      "The attack on Pearl Harbor was not only predicted, it was expected. There is no doubt that President F. Roosevelt wanted to lead America to war. For some reason, the first blow had to come from the other side, which is why they tightened their grip on Japan.The president of the United States forced Japan to attack the United States.”
      In short, the United States framed Japan, and then it made Japan launch a preemptive attack against the US in order to participate in World War II, which had already begun in Europe.

    • @115islandscompass6
      @115islandscompass6 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Japan had no choice but to go to war with the United States because it was cornered by the United States with oil embargoes and economic sanctions.
      The United States claimed that the reason for these economic sanctions and oil embargoes was "Japan's invasion of China and French Indochina."
      However, the stationing of French Indochina was done under an agreement with the French government.
      Japan did this in order to cut off the support route for weapons and supplies that were being sent to Chiang Kai-shek, and the purpose of cutting off support was to end the conflict with Chiang Kai-shek's Kuomintang forces, which did not respond to calls for peace negotiations.

    • @115islandscompass6
      @115islandscompass6 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Even in modern times, the Allied power's claim that Japan began its invasion of China after the Manchurian Incident has become a "common theory,” but this is a distortion.
      John Van Antwerp MacMurray, Beijing's ambassador to China from 1925 to 1929, submitted a detailed report in 1935 stating like this:
      "I condemn Japan for causing the Manchurian Incident. However, it was China that created the cause. Compared to other countries, all diplomats in each country admit that Japan has made the most sincere efforts to protect the Washington regime. On the other hand, China continued to provoke Japan. Japan could not stand it and asked the American and European countries that agreed to the Washington system to review the Washington system. However, the U.S. and European countries, especially the U.S. government, stood on the Chinese side and ignored Japan's request."
      "As the U.S. and European countries acquiesced to China's tyrannical behavior, Japan embarked on the Manchurian Incident. Japan is responsible for the Manchurian Incident itself, but considering the process of getting there, the Incident itself is like reaping the seeds that China has sown itself."
      The provocations MacMurray mentions include repeated violations of treaties by warlords and anti-Japanese Chinese, as well as acts of violence and terrorism against Japanese people, including stone-throwing, looting, kidnapping, rape, and murder.
      At this time, American warmongers were secretly manipulating Zhang Xueliang and Chiang Kai-shek by providing enormous support in the form of funds, supplies, and weapons.
      The United States continued to provide significant support to the Kuomintang and trained Chinese soldiers.
      The Kuomintang forces led by Chiang Kai-shek continued to violate the agreement with Japan and continued to carry out anti-Japanese terrorist acts.
      After the Marco Polo Bridge Incident, Japan wanted to avoid escalation into war, so it immediately began ceasefire negotiations and concluded four agreements within three weeks.
      However, Chiang Kai-shek broke all peace agreements by conducting terrorist attacks on the Japanese.
      For example, the Kuomintang literally massacred more than 200 Japanese people living in Tongzhou Settlement.
      Also KMT attacked the Tianjin Japanese Settlement, where 10,000 Japanese people lived.
      In response to this, the Japanese government decided to increase the number of security forces stationed in China in order to protect the lives and property of Japanese residents.
      Chiang Kai-shek then besieged the Shanghai Concession and bombarded it with air force and artillery.
      Approximately 30,000 Japanese people were staying in Shanghai at the time, as Japanese people who could no longer endure the violence in various parts of China were gathering to return home.
      The fighter planes that carried out the bombing were given to Chiang Kai-shek by the United States.
      The conflict thus gradually escalated into China incident.

    Defeated Korean military men violently colonized Japan around two thousand years ago. This Japanese experience makes Japan similar to the West where for thousand of years outcasted Middle Easterners, ran away Central Asians and Escapee African albinos made up the Western culture. Therefore, Japan has always feel not Asian but Westerner.

    • @merhanA-ve1gw
      @merhanA-ve1gw 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hey there, I see your comment and thought I’d share some insights. First off, the idea that Korean military men violently colonized Japan around two thousand years ago isn’t supported by historical evidence.
      Also, while Japan has indeed been influenced by other cultures, it’s not quite accurate to say it feels ‘Western’. Japan has a rich, unique culture and history of its own. Sure, there’s been Western influence, especially during the Meiji period when Japan was rapidly modernizing, but Japan has always maintained its own cultural identity.
      As for the formation of Western culture, it’s a bit of an oversimplification to attribute it solely to ‘outcasted Middle Easterners, ran away Central Asians and Escapee African albinos’. Western culture is the result of contributions from many different peoples and civilizations over thousands of years.
      Now, about Japan and Korea, there were indeed cultural exchanges between them during the ancient era. The southern region of the Korean Peninsula was a key port for Japan for trade and cultural exchange with mainland Asia. Political interactions date back to the 6th century when the kingdom of Baekje in present-day South Korea established relations with Japan.
      Fast forward to 1910, Japan annexed Korea and ruled it until the end of World War II in 1945. Since then, the relationship has involved three states: North Korea, South Korea, and Japan. Diplomatic relations between Japan and South Korea were formally established in December 1965.
