Cabo Wabo is such an underrated song - every VH album seems to have one, a track that maybe wasn't a single and rarely got raved about but was secretly probably the best song on the record. On Fire, Light Up The Sky, Romeo Delight, Dirty Movies, Little Guitars, Drop Dead Legs, 5150, Cabo Wabo, In 'N' Out, Seventh Seal, Me Wise Magic (technically a single, but whatever), Once, Blood And Fire...
Van Halen was at it`s best with Sammy on the mic. Sammy was about the music, Dave was about the party, Dave was HAMMERED when I saw them and I left the shows pissed about it. Always left happy with Sammy out front. Thanks for the memories Sammy, God Bless.
I have always said...the DLR days on VH was like a old Rat Rod...it's cool...raw...turns heads....and will get you there....but the VH Hagar days...is a Refined Cooler Ferrari kind of Machine ...sleek Fast Smooth....better Vocals... just a more Refined VH machine...still cool...turns heads but will get you there in style....

Yes!! Cabo Cabo is one of my all time favorite VH songs too! And for all the reasons you stated. Eddie's shimmery guitar tone, Eddie and Mikey's beautiful "Ooh" harmonies in the pre-chorus , Sammy and Mikey's harmonies in the chorus, Alex's lilting, hypnotic drum beat in the chorus, the phat, heavy groove in the verse, those gorgeous outro harmonies as the song fades into the sunset. Loved learning how to play this on guitar as a kid in the 80's. Blast it whenever I find myself driving up the PCH along the beaches and ocean.
It was meant to be. For whatever reason, DLR decided it was time to take a powder, and in walked the one-take lyric machine. Dave was a lyric machine himself but they were pretty crude lyrics, though enjoyable in their own way, Sammy's were on a higher level though. Not Shakespeare or anything but a higher level than Dave's, a noticeable upgrade.
Dave was a hopeless alcoholic but somehow managed to write some fairly good lyrics. His vocal range is limited to low, so Sammy has him on that.@@johnrwalker53
Love hearing you guys reminisce. Van Halen was and still is one of my all time favorite bands! Definitely my favorite as a kid. I used to try and play drums like Alex (and failed). Awesome music. Legends!

Cabo was the first Van Hagar song that i loved. From the first time hearing it on the radio i was hooked! I liked 5150. Moreso the music, as i was a Dave fan as a teen 😆 But Cabo Wabo made me buy that album plus 5150. Cassettes actually if i remember correctly 😂
OU812 brings back good memories. Sucker In A 3 Piece is one of the heaviest songs VH ever recorded imho. And Feels So Good is such a fine ballad, a true gem. And how about When It's Love... Another classic ballad. Creatively VH were at their peak in the late 80's. Legendary band.

Wow that’s a weird match and 5150 came out and I was shocked at how good it was and inspiring, then a month or two later saw them in concert apart from it being an amazing show , they all genuinely looked like they were happy and a solid band of brothers. I was working at Atlantic Aviation in South Bend In. when you two came out to play some at a local casino. You two were level headed and approachable...nice folks. I've been listening to VH since the beginning, and it's my opinion that roth was a great businessman, but when it came to contributing to the band musically, Hagar ruled! He brought so much more depth to the content of their songs.
Back when rock music was fun, I got my first Jeep and the OU812 cassette around the same time in high school. Wore that cassette out playing it nonstop all around town. I had to buy a second OU812 cassette. I actually still have it today, although no tape player lol

You can see deep emotion within Mike’s eyes and the memories of happier times with the band. Im glad he got to bond with Sammy like a real brother for as much as he was hurt by the two VH brothers and pushed to the side. Mike will always be the higher voice and beloved bassist that gave VH their defining sound for many years. Thanks Mike and Sammy for these memories 🤟🤟

This is my favourite Van Hagar era album. So nice to have a new remaster of it to listen to in such great sound quality. Fantastic album.

Those were the best VH times, the Van Hagar era.
You can see deep emotion within Mike’s eyes and the memories of happier times with the band. Im glad he got to bond with Sammy like a real brother for as much as he was hurt by the two VH brothers and pushed to the side.
Mike will always be the higher voice and beloved bassist that gave VH their defining sound for many years.
