I remember that this story was very striking and had a big effect on me when it was first broadcast in the 1970s. I still enjoy it. I remember one or two fantastic cliffhangers where I really didn't want to wait a week until the next episode. It benefitted from the cooperation of the Royal Navy, which made the naval scenes more realistic. The bit where the Master was watching The Clangers (a popular children's TV programme from the time) was hilarious, but you need to understand the context to get the joke.
Finally a Pertwee episode that I absolutly LOVED during the first watch ! And seriously it was great ! Refreshing but it feels like doctor who, and even though we're still on Earth and we still deal with military and UNIT we don't see UNIT and the Brigadier. I love Alistair Lethbridge-Steward but it was nice to have a break from him. 7/10 for me here.
God I adored this story, and I just loved the design of the Sea Devils themselves (designed and by John Friedlander from the BBC VFX dept and In fact I used to own a screen used Sea Devil mask but sadly sold years back and have regretted it ever since. lol The Master at his most charismatic and Pertwee dashing as usual.
Jo Grant became one of my favorite companions and grew a lot over her first season until now. I enjoy the 3rd Doctor but I watched 2 and a half seasons by now and I’m still not over Troughton/2nd Doc and I even took a break from Classic Who for a couple of months.
I enjoy this story, no where near as much as the silurians (which perfectly utilized its 7 episode structure) but having the doctor go and come back to the prison seems to really waste time. If it opened already with focus on the master and how he had control, with the doctors first appearance figuring this out as well as cutting out the doc’s capture and jo having to rescue him, they could have easily reworked this down in length and made it a shorter but more manageable and focused story
This one’s weird to me. When I first watched it I wanted to think it was brilliant yet it didn’t click the way The Silurians does. I think it’s mostly down to this being more action packed and didn’t linger too much on the central questions the way the previous one did.
The reason he visited the Master in prison was because they had once been friends a long time ago on the Time Lords' home planet Gallifrey, but also because the Doctor wanted to know where the Master's TARDIS was.
I’m on my first watch of DW Classics and made it through Doc 1/2 and now I’m here. I’ll rate it a 7/10.. could’ve been a 4 Parter like the early serials of Season 9
Just watched this one again and apart from that terrific last episode it's such a shame that it doesn't really live up to its reputation. I usually love Hulke's writing but this one seems a bit wishy-washy.

Oh, wow, that's so cool! And I agree, it's a really good story

I definitely partly agree, it certainly would've been a stronger and tighter story had it been trimmed down, though as said, I did really enjoy it.
Jo Grant's outfit was really cute in this episode. Her two main jobs were being cute and providing exposition...done and done...
9/10
I was six years old when this first aired. I now fiftysix and "Sea Devils" still scare me 😣😐 Haha Excellent. Thank You so much.

Yeah, that makes sense, I understand your perspective

Classic adventure!

I like The Sea Devils
Only think I’m not really liking since season 7 is the music score. Sometimes these electronic sounds are annoying as hell
