  • Creality CR-Scan Lizard is a 3D Scanner which can be used in two modes: The turntable mode for more accuracy scanning of smaller object and the handheld mode to scan bigger parts. It has some very interesting features, together with CR-Studio software, it can recognize two different poses so, we can scan some hidden parts of the object, which wouldn't be visible if scanning in only one position. Compared to CR-Scan 01, the Lizard is more accurate, but with smaller view angle. This means, the turntable mode can scan small details but we have limitations in object size. The handhold mode needs more practising. Unlike the Scan-O1, the Lizard in default version don't scan colors (textures), only the geometry.

    It seems like this scanner is actually better with medium and large objects than with small ones.
    I'm very impressed with the quality of the facial scan.

      For small parts (and if you don't need colors) it's doing a great job. For larger objects, colors or hand scan, the 01 version is better.

    My objective is to scan the engine compartment of a small-ish car after engine removed. I'm hoping to extract dimensions to help design supports. My thought was to use handheld mode, but mount the head on the tripod, and put the tripod on the turntable centered in the empty engine compartment.
    Or maybe shift position of scanner around to optimize distance to surfaces of interest.

    Great review, thank you! Just finished installing my microswiss direct drive on my e3v2 after following your other video.
    I would love to see an update of Creality software to support non-contact metrology with this device - ie scanning and comparing to a CAD model with tolerances defined as PMI.

    • @dangerous8333
      @dangerous8333 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you see that he didn't recommend the micro Swiss direct drive on the E3V2? I'm pretty sure he mentioned it in the video, but if not he definitely mentioned it in the comments.
      It's too heavy for the single z axis E3V2 and it's unnecessary. I realized that on my own as I was installing it. I returned mine and just bought the micro Swiss heat break and hot end. Just upgrading your extruder to an all-metal one is all you need. You'll be able to print faster without the heavy direct drive on the printhead as well.
      I'd return it while you can.

      @@dangerous8333 no, its actually proven to be a very effective upgrade. Stringing in PETG was a problem with bowden but has effectively been eliminated with the MSDD.
      I haven't seen any ringing artifacts at 75mm/sec in PLA, have yet to try any faster but at a certain point the moving mass of the bed will also limit quality.

    I really like the portability factor, but considering cancelling my kickstarter pledge.
    I already own a Einscan SP and that does excellent and very accurate scans, but wanted to do larger objects and possibly full body scans which this appears not to be ideal for, or at the very least requires a lot of patience and practice. Like someone else said, facescan worked well... Would probably be better off with the previous incarnation which also has colour scanning built in. Thanks very much for the review :) Gained a subscriber!

    Well. I was one of the first to back the Kickstarter campaign. It appears there is an issue with a copyright or some similar problem that prompted Kickstarter to take it down.
    I had an email come thru Creality saying “don’t worry we will send them out”.
    All I’m hearing is crickets after that.

      For turntable mode it is really accurate. But for hand scan, very hard to use, due small view angle. For that CR-Scan 01 is better. For example, with Lizard, no change to scan a car or similar large object.

    • @MyTechFun
      @MyTechFun  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depend of the size. Mid/small size Yes. (for bigger, CR-Scan 01 is better) Maybe in some cases you need to coat too shiny or black surfaces with some spray (or baby powder :-) ) Theoretically this can scan black surfaces, if brightness is on max, but then white areas become problematic.

    Man, all the years that this tech has been around and still the results are.....meh. Just seems to me like a cartesian scan box would be the way to go. Hand held scanners just...too fiddly to bother with. Seriously with all of the lidar and advanced sensors we have today, why hasn't this been cracked to a useable state yet? I don't mean to offend but I can get the same results with a Microsoft Kinect scanner.

    • @dangerous8333
