Honor Magic V3 Hands-On: Uncanny Thinness with Periscope Zoom

  • The Honor Magic V3 is the new thinnest and lightest foldable phone around, measuring 9.3mm when folded and weighing 230g. It basically feels like the iPhone 15 Pro Max when folded, but with rounder curvier edges.
    There's a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and two gorgeous screens, and a capable triple lens camera system too.
    I got the phone from Trinity Electronics in Hong Kong, which can ship worldwide.

    as Honor owner, i really hope they step up their software game. I miss so many OS and camera features I had in Samsung, i doubt my next phone will be Honor again, yet I would love to get this one.
    For the ones who are interested what is bad:
    OS is freezing occasionally when you are using gestures instead of bottom navigation buttons
    Battery lasts significantly shorter after the OS 8 update
    Their private space is a joke, samsung has a much better solution. Switching to honor's safe space takes forever (almost like a restart)
    Their portrait mode is useless, because it doesn't allow you to change the background blur (focus point or just turn it off) after you took a shot, so if the focus is missed, the photo is ruined forever ..so just don't risk it.
    Otherwise its a good phone, battery WAS the best ever, cameras are superb, screen, speed, ergonomy, unlocking.. its really a shame software is ruining it.

    • @darkknight097
      @darkknight097 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I feel like that defeats the purpose of having a large inner screen. Being able to use the outter screen with one hand, without having to over stretch your thumb, is actually a plus imo. My hand never gets fatigued using.
      If what you're doing needs more screen space, then just open the phone.

      @@smokyz_ I type just fine on the outer display of a fold 3; with one hand. Very convenient for quick txt replies or checking notifications, as you dont need to overstretch your thumb to reach the far side of the keyboard/screen.
      And heavy media consumption, open the screen. Its fits nicely in smaller pockets when folded. So removing the outer display to just have the large inner screen be the default would definitely not be convenient for day to day.

    • @smokyz_
      @smokyz_ หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@darkknight097 Its all personal preferences. For me narrow screen would be ass. I want the outer screen to be like a normal slab phone and inner like a mini tablet. The outer screen is brighter and sometimes might be better to use outside on a bright day. It doesn't scratch as easily, so it's safer to use with dirty hands at dirty places. Outside in winter -20c I would feel safer with using only the outer screen when its about the size of a normal slab phone (I wouldn't need to compromise with the narrower than usual screen). Also the narrow outside screen just looks uncomfortable and ugly.

    I was hoping the v2 would influence phone makers outside of china to improve. If this was readily available and there was confidence in app optimisation and software i would buy it in a heartbeat! Going to have to wait another year or two until i buy a fold

      The ads only in budget phones never been ads in flagships. There are bloat ware apps that can be uninstalled

    I love the look and feel of the V2, the V3 looks just as good. But I agree the samsung hinge and their software its just 100% better. If i could get a V3 running Google's software though with the Samsung hinge. That would be an instant buy for me

    I keep reading that there are issues with notification delays or not appearing at all with Honor and some other Chinese brands. Is this still the case on MagicOS 8? It's the one thing that keeps me from jumping ship.

    After the full review can you please do comparison between:
    MagicV3, Mixfold4 & Xfold3 pro
    I really like the V3 Rose Gold, but I'm worried that there might be a major sacrifice
    Thanks for pointing out the fingerprint sensor & hinge

    With folding phones getting so refined and small now. It's not going to be long until all phones go that way.

    Do any of these imported phones have issues working with Verizon in the USA? Also, how do you protect and service imported phones? With my previous Samsung Folds i have needed to get a replacement phone about once a year due to inner screen or hinge issues, and Ive successfully used Verizon Protect and Samsung Care. Imported phones I wonder if ill be out of luck down the road.

    The younger me would have bought either magic v3, mix fold4, x fold3 or any of the high spec foldables. Because the beauty of android is that you can play around with custom rom, which can lift the disadvantage on software sides.
    However, the older me requires reliability and security 24/7. I can no longer afford to play around with custom rom. Sadly, I have no other choice than z fold6..😢

    • @KevboKev
      @KevboKev 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I agree. I used to flash roms left and right. I would get board, boom, another Rom. At this point in my life, I just want reliability, and you cannot beat Samsung's trade-in program, even if you don't plan on trading up every years as I don't, you still get something worthy enough to help with your next purchase.

    The best thing about the Fold is Android. The software makes a big difference, also company support, and i hate the camera bumps. Just make the whole phone that thick and increase battery size? Pretty solid phone overall, though, no doubt about that.
