    This is the Danelectro "The Eisenhower" Fuzz Octave Pedal. This pedal is for guitarists who are looking for something a little bit different with loads of fuzz tones on tap! The octave feature is always on and does a great job recreating the tones of old!
    A huge thanks to Danelectro for sending this out for a full pros and cons review. Check it out at the Sweetwater/Thomann/Amazon links above.

    Hey, Shane- glad to see you softening on Fuzz. The secret to fuzz is that each Fuzz has a secret. For example- a Tonebender mk II style is best as a lead/solo fuzz when treated kinda like a Fuzz Face, while a Mk III/IV is best used like a distortion. A Big Muff? Well, a Pi is great for use with echo, and modulation, while an Op Amp Muff is great for smooth melodic lines on its own, but play slow so the tone "blooms'- and so on. So, the trick with an Octave fuzz is to play lead/solo above the 12th fret. Seriously- the oscillation gets tighter so it blends better. But, I play with gain stages a lot- currently my pedalboard has two DOD250 clones ( one yellow specification, one grey spec) a MXR Distortion plus (script logo spec) clone and a tonebender Mk III clone. I don't play all that high gain, all that often, but by setting each carefully- I get a truly vast array of gain structures and tones- from country style 'compressed clean" to Tony Iommi sludge- and the amp becomes a lot more flexible- I can get roughly the same tones from a Boss Katana as from a Fender Princeton. Just something to think about.

    It's a crushing sound, which is why I first loved it, but yeah, it's weird that you can't play chords with it. I admit, I was searching for a video that validated my experience. It's well, a very niche type of fuzz.

    Cool! Shane, have you tried stacking it with OD pedals? I place mine in the beginning of the chain (even before the wah). Another cool trick with it: "fuzz-down / volume-up" and then stack it (even with 2 other pedals stacked, like when you kick on both channels of the royal flush) to me this is like "replacing" the grit of the fuzz with that of an overdrive to give it a completely new colour. I also find that octafuzz is more prominent on the neck pickup (or both pups on) especially around the 12th fret.
    Great vid and great playing mate! Cheers!

    Great video! Fuzz is like another instrument. A wild beast... you shouldn't play guitar WITH the fuzz, you should play guitar TO the fuzz. Adapt your playing to what you are hearing like you did. Once you get it, you get it and it is amazing and unique!

    Hi sir. I am about to buy a fuzz pedal. 1st time ever. Is this pedal noisy ( humm ) when the guitar is not playing?

    • @intheblues
      @intheblues  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you mean with the pedal on or off? Off, it's fine but due to the gain structure of any fuzz you may hear some noise with the gain but it's not really a fault of the pedal. Gain creates noise and the more gain there is the more noise usually.

  • @jamalabdul2009
    @jamalabdul2009 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Fuzz!!😁😁😁😁 This pedal reminds me of my Roger Mayer Octavia with a few more tonal options. Octave fuzz is by far a tricky tone because,like you said, chords sound out of tune and messy. Where these types of fuzz pedals rock is riffing or soloing between the 9th fret on up to around 15th or 17th. You really get that Band of Gypsys vibe cooking!! I’ve noticed that I can hear solos using this type of pedal because of the unique tones!😎😎😎 First it was the Marshall,now octave fuzz pedals, what’s next Shane? 😆😆😆 Cheers Mate!🎸🎸🎸🎼🎶🎵

    Great vid Shane!! Most, or almost all, fuzz Octavia style pedals are monophonic. Only good for one or two notes at a time. You can combine a polyphonic (more than one note at a time with achieved octave per note) pedal like the electroharmonix NANO POG with a fuzz only pedal and achieve, kinda, the same effect except now you’ll be able to play chords without them getting too muddy. I have both these options on my pedal board. The KingTone Germanium mini fuzz with the NANO POG sounds cool. But I also have the KingTone The Octaland as well. Also, SRV used Octavia Fuzz pedals. And Kenny Wayne uses one on his solo for Blue on Black, as well as other solos throughout his albums. Incidentally, I have three 90’s era Danelectro pedals on my board as well. Two Dan Echo’s and a Cool Cat. Love ‘em! Can’t go wrong with Danelectro my friend!!!

      😆 bees in a can is what they used to call it. It has its uses. If you have a strat and turn down the gain on the fuzz you can get those hendrix cleans, but 95% of the time its bees in a can or a wall of bass filled distortion for a doom band 😆

    • @ravenslaves
      @ravenslaves 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      A lot of it depends on the type of fuzz and how you use it.
      I can't do much with octave fuzzes or the starved voltage-sputtering-amp-gonna-blow-speaker-torn sound.
      But some fuzzes can give you anything from an over-driven sound to a violin smooth sustain sound, without the kazoo effect.

    Not sure I understand those who don't like fuzz. Our guitars and gear are there to help us express the full range of feelings, emotions, characters, colors, textures. Fuzzes are the trixters and jabberwockys, etc. Or whoever you decide for them to be, Bill The Cat, whatever. Same goes for overdrives, single coils, phasers, compressors, Vox amps, whatever. Fear not the gear, shake up your mellow jazz, your twangy pickin', your balls out rawk, your lysergic legato bloooz. Go somewhere, be someone, pick a few colors and make something out of it. FEAR NOT THE GEAR, watch it change your fingers, your note choices, your approach. Build on your comfort zone.

    That's a nice fuzz. Octave Fuzz doesn't track... It's not supposed to. It's strange hearing a Germanium style fuzz setup like a Pi.. The scoop setting. Now running an Octave into a fuzz is cool but different completely from an Octave Fuzz.
