1958 Ford Fairlane 500 Two Door Hardtop Road Test - Sold Sold Sold

This 58 For Fairlane 500 two door hardtop is an original black car with the Big Block FE 332 four barrel carburetor. Sold new in California and has the "Black Plates" on it. it was bought by a friend of mine in 2006. He and I went to look at another car in an Oakland but he liked the Ford so he bought it. The car needed a restoration and his wife's father was a bodyman, so it was a family project. The project went home and they bought new sheet metal and parts, welded in new floor pans and rockers. The drivers door was replaced and is not adjusted. All the other original sheet metal was black so we expect it is original to the car. The family had some problems, so the car never got finished. I brought the car to my place and bolted trim back on so you can see how it looks. It has a new 2 1/2 inch exhaust system, the new sheet metal, front and back seat are recovered with tuck and roll. It runs great, Original Radio Works!

58 Fairlanes are not easy to find! I like the roof with the small detail lines stamped in. The ONLY YEAR Ford did this and the ONLY model that had them. Very Cool Car for 1958.

My dad really likes this car brings him back memorys his first car was 1958 ford fairlane 500 the color was burgundy it had a 352 cu, low gear transmission he said it had tons of power 1st gear 45mph 2nd gear 70 to 75 mph .He said he still would have it but someone torched his car in the middle of the night sad!!..but i see you sold it. if you ever come across another 58 ford fairlane 500 that's in good shape please email me i will give you finders fee.Thanks

One of those was our family car from 59 - 61. It replaced a 55 Chevy Nomad. Ford was turquoise and white two tone, and had a 292 V8 in it. The rockers were already rusting out by the time my father traded it in on a new 62 Chrysler Newport. It was decades before my mom would drive a Ford again because of that.

We do have rust out here.. Dont believe what you hear.. This was in the San Francisco Bay Area.. The Pacific Ocean has salt water!!!

Why was there rust out of panels if it was a California car? They don't salt the roads there from what I heard? Nice restoration job though.

What happens most of the time is a window is left open, or a vent window is broken and rain gets in the carpet-- carpet stays wet--- and the floor goes away..
Next thing is people dont wash the cars properly, they allow dirt-mud to build up in the wheel wells. causes rust in the wheel openings.
