This car is sweet. 1956-1958 were I think Fords best years in styling of the Fairlane 500. Sure would have been nice to hear it roar.

You betcha, I had a rust bucket 1955 and ford waited till 56 to go 12 volt. I almost left ford over that issue, but I really liked the 58 custom line with a post. My friend had his with a built 312 and two fours. His brother had a 57 and said he could keep up UNTIL that #2 four kicked in. That ford was really fast. But, he blew it up, over reving and it let go. I was in service and didn’t get it, he had sold it before I had dibs on it. Oh, the days.

Stock hood latch. That's how they worked. I had a 1957 Ranchero for years growing up. It had been my Grandfather's shop truck since it was brand new. Converted to electric wipers is a must because dual diaphragm fuel pumps are hard to get. Mine had a 312 Thunderbird Special under the hood, three on the tree w/overdrive.

I had one exactly like this when I was 17 in 1962. It was navy blue and had a large THunderbird engine. It was used when I bought it with 60 thousand miles on it. It was immaculate. And I paid $700.00 for it. It was beautiful and was a chick magnet. Best looking car I ever owned and drove and I could maintain engine myself. I would give anything to have my original back. Wished I had just parked it in a barn somewhere. Drove i TV 3 years and it ran like a dream. Onnly got $300.00 for it when I traded it in on a 1959 Chevy Impala. But it by far was the best looking and driving car I,ve ever owned. God, your video makes me cry.

I had one in high school in 1963. My very first vehicle. My dad bought it for $350. Needed a dash board and we got one at the junk yard for $50 and installed it in the driveway. Screwed up the directional signals and left turn signal was the oil light. But it was a hot car then. Wow, if I only had it now,

The 1955/56 Fords were such a dramatic styling change from what went before, and then the 1957 Fords were another dramatic styling change- my family had one of each, a 1954 Ranch Wagon, a '56 Fairlane sedan, and a 1957 Country Squire. …..

When I was 7 years old, I knelt next to a 57 Fairlane to peer inside, and cut my knee open on a broken bottle, I had to get 7 stitches in my knee to close it up, by the way it was my first grade teachers car, so being nosey I had to check it out.

Having owned a purchased '57 Ford convertible (yep, I'm THAT old) with a 312cid T-Bird special engine still love the looks since it was a one year body style tho the '58 was kinda close. I could find a home for that car but my wallet is a bit thin, having a '31 Ford street rod roadster with all the good HiPo stuff (100% Ford) using whatever is left after food and my home costs. Sigh! It sucks to get old!

I got it used in 1962 with 50 k miles on it. 1962 an 63 were spent fixing all its faults starting with new tires , leaky radiator, rear main bearing seal repair, generator, brakes and a new interior. When I was done it was a nice car and I gave it a new paint job at Earl Sheibs any car 29.95, however I went for the top of the line paint service. I kept it the next few years and ran it at ATCO Drag way a few times. Most of the time I sepnt cruising and keeping it up.

Thats actually a really easy swap to do. The FE engine which is what that 427 is was an option in 58' as ford's 352 cubic inch "police interceptor" engine, the two years use identical frames. Now I would like to know where they got the headers....my 58 Fairlane 500 could use a set to get rid of the log manifolds on my 352.

    • @walnutmanor

The FE started out as a 332 which in 1958 both engines were available and my grampa had both engines in his cop car and he said the 332 police Interceptor was a more hotter engine then the 352. His cop car was also a 2 door Fairlane 500 2 door post which he still had the spot light. My dad has Gramps's 58 and had a 58 2 door Hardtop.

My Dad had a 57 version that was the medium green, where this one is red. It was supposed to have been for the state law enforcement, they didn't take it. The salesman called my Dad, and asked if he wanted it. He said, sure. Police Interceptor engine with two 4-bbl carbs. His next car after that one, was a baby blue, with white top, 1960 Starliner, with the 390 engine. That one, I remember. I only
vaguely remember the 57 Ford, since I was 4, or 5. My Aunt had the yellow version of that 57. When I was high-school, she had a bright red Olds 442 Cutlass.. snazzy Aunt.. :-) When I went to visit, she would toss me the keys.

The 1960 Starliner did not come with a 390 engine, The 352 engines in different HP ratings were th largest engines available.

@SteveDolyniuk Apparently his was the 1961 model, which had the 390 engine available. I specifically remember the 390 decal on the breather cover.

You shoulda took that sheet off the engine and started it up so we could hear what it sounds like and take it around the block. My mother had a 57 Fairlane 500 with a 3 speed manual transmission. I cried when she sold it.😭😭😭 I sure miss it.

Very, very nice Ford. I’m like you, it will probably bring a bunch. Esp if the engine is truly a Shelby 427..... That engine alone is worth a ton of money...

Noticing that they never say where the car is or if there is any supporting documentation to prove what is under the hood, without that it's a plain Jane 57 Ford 500 that looks nice , but for the big money to happen in the sale they will need proof not just good intentions. Any charity organizations could have sold the car, why did it end up at copart out in the yard where it could be damaged if it's worth so much, kinda of a bad showing.
