  • Clarion Boats is dedicated to crafting elegant and reliable modern mahogany boats that will exceed your expectations. Your Clarion will provide you and your family with years of enjoyment.
    Each Clarion Boat is the ideal blending of meticulous craftsmanship with modern technologies of design and materials. Your Clarion offers the best of both worlds; sophisticated, bespoke beauty combined with performance, durability and low maintenance.
    The Clarion team has decades of expertise in the Canadian wooden boating realm. Choose from our 10 proven designs from 19 to 34 feet, or bring us your dream!
    Clarion Boats of Muskoka is owned and operated by Paul Crammond. Paul has decades of personal history in Muskoka, as a cottager on Lake Rosseau with his family since 1971. During those formative years, Paul was constantly exposed to life on the water and the boating world of Muskoka, a culture and history that fascinated him. Paul went on to own antique wooden boats in his adult years and at various times has owned companies importing boats into Muskoka, and building to order classic-look fibreglass boats trimmed in mahogany.
    Working in a design and construction consulting capacity with Paul is the original founder of Clarion Boats, Dwight Boyd. With his wife, Kerstin, Dwight began Clarion Boats in the mid-1980s. After restoring award-winning antique boats such as Ditchburns and Greavettes, Dwight expanded his efforts to include the building of new wooden boats and established a dedicated clientele of enthusiasts across the continent.
    2019 marked an exciting new chapter for Clarion Boats.
    Dwight Boyd semi-retired and sold the Clarion Boats name, intellectual property and designs to Paul Crammond. Dwight remains very much involved with Clarions’ future as a design and construction consultant. His experience and knowledge are invaluable.
    All wooden boat models sold by Clarion Boats of Muskoka are the design work of Midland marine designer, Steve Killing. Steve has twice designed for the Canadian team in the America’s Cup sailing competition, and was a designer on the renowned Canada One yacht that competed in the 1983 Louis Vuitton Cup.
    This team of Dwight Boyd, Paul Brackley, Steve Killing, and Paul Crammond represents decades of expertise in the Canadian wooden boating realm. They are committed to designing and constructing the finest, most enjoyable modern mahogany boats in North America.

      Maybe so but there's only lunatic customers from now on.
      The generation who bought these things have ALL gone and now this stuff must be sold to absolute lunatics.
      Realise you're surrounded by jackass scum and that's who's going to get these boats.

    Not often do you have the ability to express yourself with the gracefulness of a piece of true individual ART as you skip across the water, this is a once in a lifetime chance to accomplish those desires... I was lucky enough for a days pleasure aboard a CLAIRON of which a friend invited me out on a brisk spring early morning till the mid afternoon stopping only for lunch on a quaint Tennessee River Docking Pier
    Restaurant... An encounter with a day never to forget, especially when he asked how'd I like to
    take her back home for us... I've owned and piloted many a different boat from a Jon boat, to a 33' cigar power boat, and river 48" X 14' double deck house boats... This ones chairs upon the back of my neck and arms raised by the swanning sweetness of the boat freely giving itself to my total control...
    My wife's remark from the smirking grin and kid eyes look was priceless, yes I know you want one don't you ??? I do and I'm looking into purchasing one now....

    They certainly are beautiful. How many of us have experienced putting 9-12 coats of varnish on a wooden object that size? I did it on only the foredeck of a 17 footer, and I never want to do it again.

      My guess, at 3000 hours build time, at $100 per hour or more comes to $300,000 for labor alone. You can easily double that for material and hardware, thus $600,000 minimum, up to $1 million depending on optional features. And I think I am being VERY conservative.
      For my money, I'd prefer a vintage (20 t0 40 years old) motor yacht in the 40' to 50' range in excellent condition that can be had for anywhere from $500,000 to $1,000,000.

    These boats look like they would be a joy to own and operate. The smooth, quiet performance and low maintenance requirements are definitely appealing. Do you have any experience with wooden boats? If so, how does your impression of Clarion boats compare to other brands?

    What is the maintenance schedule of a Clarion? How bad is it if you damage the hull? Is it possible to have some sort of reinforcement under the hull?

    • @paulcrammond7048
      @paulcrammond7048 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The powertrain is modern Mercruiser, either V6 or V8 depending on boat model. All structural hull components are coated in epoxy; the boat won't leak or rot. If you hit a sharp object such as a rock, a punctured hull can be repaired quite easily. The hull has a protective layer of fiberglass from the waterline down. The varnish finish is durable; keep the boat under cover out of the sun when it's not being used. Refinish every 5 to 10 years at professional cost of approx $11K for a 20 ft Clarion.

    • @marzsit9833
      @marzsit9833 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@paulcrammond7048 puncture the hull and you are screwed because the wood is encapsulated, but if you poke a hole in it and the wood gets wet, it will never dry out, and the boat will begin to rot from the inside out with no easy way to stop it. yes, you can patch it, but the clock is running.....

      @paulcrammond7048 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@marzsit9833 Actually, there are methods to properly repair these cold-molded hull designs, that eliminate further hull damage. A Clarion hull was pierced by a rock. We immediately repaired the hull damage, and the boat is still running bone dry over 20 years later!

    The generation you're now selling to is generation X or Y.
    You need to realise the baby boomer generation have all gotten TOO OLD for boats.
    Generation X has been decimated over multiple decades.
    So, you're fast running out of customers.
    You need to stop ✋️ and rethink what you're doing.
