      1 slow E60 _ with fuel that sits a long time... Just shake it real good for a minute. 👍 it becomes good again. Smell it before....then after. You'll smell the difference !

    Using up all the fuel is great advice. Also immediately after it stops use the pull start to move the flywheel to BDC (out of the pinch zone) This protects your sleeve and helps the next start

    Just fired up my Kyosho MP5 (circa 1995 - restored in 2010). After 4 or 5 years of sitting in my garage, it was a bit stiff, so I had to put in some oil and let it spin on my starter box for a bit to loosen it up. Running like a champ now - screams like it should.

    Thanks for the advice! A friend and I are wrenching on a ravaged tmaxx that is the oldest make from traxxas from when they first made it. It's giving us a lot of trouble tight now. It's his neighbors, and he might be having me do a brushless conversion for him

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey buddy!!! I used to have a few t-maxx's, miss them too. I was trying to pick one up for a brushless conversion too, but it seems like you would need a lot of work to make that happen, it's easier if you just started of with the E-maxx. For one, you need a totally diff trans, without all the one way clutches and two speed. BTW on the t-maxx have you gotten it to run?

    • @evhexrc1765
      @evhexrc1765 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      hybrid32494 not yet. Not really. We had it for a bit but something is just really messed up. Some guy had given it to one guy, then that guy gave it to my friend’s neighbor, and he doesn’t know what to do with it. My friend and I decided that since his neighbor has never had an RC before, he should start with an electric setup. I’m going to do a brushless conversion for him so he can use that for now, then I can put the nitro stuff back in for him when he has gotten the hang of the electric. I’m still thinking about what electronics to put in it. What are your thoughts on all of that?

    • @emmettuhlir3272
      @emmettuhlir3272 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      EvHexRC 1 I would look for a electric conversion from Kershaw designs or Integy. As far as motors go, a decent 4s system would be great in a classic tmaxx. A 6s system would likely destroy the older style transmission used in the tmaxx. Reedy sells a 4s motor and esc combo used in their Rival monster truck. Its a good system made my a company that has lots of experience. As a final note, I would definitely recommend taking care with the transmission. You can still use the nitro set up and have it shift for reverse, and use mechanical brakes. In the long run, it might be better to purchase a newer emaxx. It would still be a very fun project, classic Tmaxx trucks are a really good platform.

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Im pretty sure the stock T-maxx trans would be destroyed ASAP with even a basic 10th scale brushless system. You gotta think back when this truck was out it had a traxxas .15 engine, that made less than 1 HP. As you say, the e-maxx would be the way to go, especially the old two speed shift on the fly version (I used to have).

    Good advice right there kids! If the fuel was drained and the carb emptied on the last run shutdown (sqeeze the fuel hose shut to shutdown dont use the finger over the exhaust method or it will leave old fuel in the carb.) then id should sit for as long as you like and fire straight up like a well maintained dirt bike. I hardly ride anymore getting old not interested in getting hurt nothing to prove so the bikes sit for up to 2-3 years at a time. No problems starting them either. Just make sure to empty the carb otherwise old fuel turns into varnish and clogs carbies. Nitro engines last 30 years if you look after em. I plan to be one of the few who can still pull out his old tmaxx 30 years later. Hell its already been bout 15years and until I get my XMAXX its still my go to basher!

    Prior to long term storage, I did put 6 drops of after run in the carb. But the carb got gummed up from the fuel, it got stuck in full throttle. I had to use mineral spirits to free it up. I like to to heat the cylinder head with a micro torch to 160° for way easier starting.

    I had one in storage for around four years.. I'm in quarantine at home so I took the time to completely disassemble and clean the engine with two stroke mix, now it's like new! It had old fuel inside it and it had gummed up the carb and the fuel tank

    I always use inline filters. Hey I had a car that had not been run in 15 years. The owner did not use after run oil. I pulled the head and air fiter. Got some CRC Throttle/carb boby cleaner from a car parts store. Sprayed it id, cranked it over and it freed up. It was gummed up bad. But after a 1/2 tank idle run, I sprayed it out again, upside down. Dumped he fluids out and the engine lit up light new. Quick way to avoid a complete tear down. It won't always work. But usually does fine on small engines. I use the same glow starter with the meter. I joined your channel. Nice video. Sweet car. Don't flip it and scratch that head. BODY ON!

      Sometimes you get lucky with nitro storage and the engine is'nt rusty after. The issue with leaving fuel in the system is that it will just Gum up eventually and ruin everything, but can generally be cleaned.

    Personal story: got a tmaxx and a revo off a buddy, both motors seized, hadn’t run for maybe 5-8 yrs. easy fix pull motor remove gloplug fill with wd40. Wait a day. Fill again, use vise grips to grab the flywheel and just wiggle it loose and it’s good as new. Almost, you because the afterrun oil gets cruddy, u gotta pull apart the motor so it will run good. Clean the crank bearings with brake cleaner or rc cleaner. And re lube em with 0w- 20 motor oil. Then use that or wd as assembly lube. And your all set, this works on a Traxxas 2.5 and 3.3.

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hello man!!! First thing to check is your receiver batteries. Make sure they are new. Do you have a 2.4 GHZ radio? Make sure your receiver antenna is correctly mounted and not somehow shoved inside the receiver box. IT sounds like you got symptoms of signal interference instead of bad servos. Generally the servo either works or does not. Ofcourse you should also check the linkages themselves to make sure they are not binding. Let me know, and I;'ll continue with more advice and checks.

    To take the fuel out u don’t need to run ur rc car out just unplug the carb tube and the petrol will get air and go back into the tank then once u have done that start your car untill it dies then put wd40 or after run oil both work the same and remember to pime your wd40/after oil (WITH OUT THE GLOW PLUG) so that it gets every we’re in the engine

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your method works too, but it is not the best. In general it is best to limit fuel in the RC in general, it will eventually gum up the fuel tank and the fuel lines if left in for a long time. I also do not take the glow plug out unless it needs to be changed, or the engine is flooded. If you spray aftersun or wd-40 into the carb its the same effect. Taking out the glow plug each time will increase the chances of dirt or sand getting into the piston and sleeve.

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its possible, but you know its all about risk, all it takes is one grain of sand to get in there, and its done. I just try to limit unnecessary unscrewing of the glow plug as much as I Can. You might have a very good engine too, what engine do you run?

    • @noahv1916
      @noahv1916 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      hybrid32494 I don’t think it’s a good engine might be wrong but it’s off a old thunder tiger size 20 engine way bigger than the one in video i don’t worry about sand and stuff I’m careful but I allways unscrew the glow plugs and shit no worries and I run it on the lean side and bash on it non stop I don’t know how the things still alive but starts first go if I prime good the first time tbh I even have small engines like urs I beat the fuck out of I even ran one with out the air filter for test purposes but then was having to much fun forgot about the filter and still runs but the smaller engines allways a little cunt to start some times but still starts one pull if it’s primed right

    Why don't you blow out the extra fuel,un-hook the carb line, and the exhaust fuel line and blow in the exhaust line,fuel comes out on the way to the carb. This is the same way we would prime the carb with fuel,you see it in the fuel line. Also pre-oil the piston, through the glow plug,turn it over by hand a couple of times. Then get the piston to the bottom of the stroke, before you start it.

    Hey mate, your title is wrong! That's the normal procedure!!
    After so long without start u have to be more careful.
    you have looking for rust around, if its the case remove them, use some WD40 before, make sure you the flywheel is moving smooth, check fuel lines, etc..

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      hey buddy, thanks for watching and the comment. You are correct, I am much more detailed when I buy a nitro engine where I don't know it's history, I would even take the engine apart and inspect it and rebuild the carb. I this case I've owned this RC for many years and run it every 6 months or so, its usually easy to start.

    Increase idle slightly and a good tip would be to start it on a block of wood or something to keep the wheels raised and this lets the wheels spin freely

      there is also more to check than I demonstrated in this video. One of the important things is to check for compression or if the motor is seized. Attempt to turn the flywheel, you should feel some tension but it should move with just one finger. Then Check to see if your glow plug works by either using a meter glow starter or unscrewing it and checking to see if it gets red. do this first, then followup with me on here, Ill give you more steps to follow.

They are all different, but I find that nitro and gas retain alot more value when used and usually I have a better time with them when they run right. Electrics are fun too, but if you're into the mechanics and tech aspects then they are pretty much all similar. Big motor, big battery, you got speed, thats all there is to it.

    • @hybrid32494

      hey man, if you take really good care of your motors and make sure to oil the filter and never get any dirt inside or overheat it you can easily run 4-5 gallons of fuel. Most people who don't keep up with service on these only see about 2 gallons until they need a rebuild. I still have this car and it's fine, I'm up around 3 gallons on it.

      @hybrid32494  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      hey man!! Hit me up on here if you need any help or advice. First check the entire fuel system and just make sure it's pressurized. They check the glow plug, and see if it ignites. add some 3-in-1 oil or after run oil to lube it a bit before you spin it. If it's pretty loose and has ok compression it'll fire. The carb cleaning is usually the key here, the nitro fuel tends to gum up after a while in the system.

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      hey bro!! That is really a question that is open to interpretation. All that matters is the idle is consistent and the clutch does not engage, therefore it's not too high. Based on engines and pipe combos the PITCH and/or loudness will be different. But you really should be looking for consistency and a good RPM, instead of sound quality.

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      hey buddy! In general almost all issues like you're describing comes down to incorrect carb needle setting. Try to richen the carb with both the Low Speed needle and the High Speed needle, the engine should have plenty of smoke and a normal low idle. In terms of your fuel line, it should be 5-7 inches long overall. Sounds like a tuning issue to me.

      SO I watched an engine brake in video by ADAM DRAKE, he did use an engine heater that got the cooling hear to 200 degrees. This was for break in only, ideally the best way to start any motor, yes!!. IS this realistic and necessary for the common RC nitro basher, NOT REALLY.

    • @brandonb.288
      @brandonb.288 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah - that is some absurd suggestion. Might as well preheat my diesel truck, sports car and family van as well right? The idle temps will get the engine into the mid 100s (F) and then a few short pulls will get the the temps close to 180-200 for running temps.
      So... the metal does not change between 70 degrees and 200 degrees that much, so even on the break in - if it is a gradual increase and "seating" of the piston it is fine. Otherwise the heating the engine to 200 before starting it is one of the crazier things I have heard.

    As long as you store the engine so as it's covered (i.e no debris can get in to the engine block) then you are fine.
    I did some extensive testing on after-run oil (ARO) over the course of 2-3 years on like six different engines (including two of the same engines). I did a long video on it, but the net-net is I recommend it. However, the ONLY difference I could see is that the engines "peak" lasted about 30% longer than not using ARO. Meaning an engine usually peaks around 3-4 gallons, and then at some point becomes less optimized (usually on the bearings will wear, or the shaft might get scored with debris, etc., and it is not as strong. All rectifiable, however...but I've stored engines for 5+ yeatrs (never had a drop of ARO) and they fired up immediately. Heat is what you want to use.

      @@hybrid32494 I have an 4wd hpi 46cc 2stroke trophy truck. And no I have seen your new videos but I'll be sure to watch. I also just ordered a 1/10 scale hsp warhead nitro buggy 2 days ago. I think it has the same engine ur running here. It's a vx18 (.18cxp) nitro motor

      WOW, 46CC, very cool, is that one of the big block engines? I though my Rovan 30CC is enough and too much power for my BAJA lol. I also have a Redcat nitro shockwave with the same vx18 engine as this exceed and yours. I recently got a used redcat rampage XT, converted to an MT, whole situation with that RC right now.

    i just bound my remote to receiver it is bound but have no steer or throttle what can it be

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      if you have no steering or throttle how do you really know it did bind correctly? Are you using a fleshy FS-gt3B remote and receiver, if not, which?

    • @patrickB106
      @patrickB106 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      RCR-2C redcat remote and receiver was flashing red once bound went to straight red

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      After the binding are you sure that you have the wires plugged in correctly? Try it again, otherwise I would recommend you get yourself a FLYSKY FS-GT3B remote and many receivers. Thats basically what I use, the cheapest, best radio system there is. And binding is easy, you can run uptp ten different models on this one remote with stored setting. I never liked other systems, their binding process is always bad.

    How long do the batteries usually last in the car while driving?

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      you mean the regular 4 AA batteries used for the electronics system right? If so, then I would say they last about 25 tanks of fuel, which is a good amount. You will instantly be able to tell if the batteries need replacement, because the steering will become sluggish and slower.
