Have been gardening for many yrs. Always considered a 50 - 60% survival rate of cuttings pretty good. Tried your suggestion of a Vit.C dip and LOW + BEHOLD am witnessing a 100% take of my cuttings. Thank you very much. Just shows that an old dog can learn new tricks!

Lovely straightforward explanation that we always get from British and Australian/NZ presenters - all you need to know in 3:18 mins. Cutting length and rooting solution was particularly well done.

This is the best video out of all of them. I have tried this way and have fantastic results, so I don’t have to buy any more geraniums. For vitamin C i used diluted lemon juice .

This is the best advice I have found anywhere on line. I used to use root hormones and never had any success. Now, thanks to you I have sixty rooted cuttings of geranium peltatum! Thank you and please keep the videos coming.

I do miss the Vernons family, I used to but my Pellies from them when I was a young lad. Thankfully the large collection of Pelargoniums is now safely looked after by Alwoods nursery. Fibrex are the owners of the National collection of Pelargoniums and have an extensive range of traditional favourites and also have newly released Pelargoniums on sale every year.

Hello my name is Deb, I am new to your Channel today as I have been looking for geranium cuttings videos. I had a huge geraniums in a hanging basket that was caught up in a wind storm that hit our Big Deck. I have lots and lots of geranium cuttings from just that one plant alone. It was about two and a half to three feet across and about the same in heigh. Gorgeous dark pink flowers by the hundreds on huge stalks. Probably the best plant I have over wondered in my sun room/ master bedroom and bathroom. Huge windows and mirrors keep it in perfect sunlight in the house. I felt that I needed to take it outside on my huge deck with hundreds of plants sitting, hangings and growing like crazy. My entire garden is within 10 feet of my deck all the way around it. Totally perfect. Thank you for your video on how to do these cuttings. Take care God bless, Deb

How much vitamin C in that glass? and is it ascorbic or ascorbate? good vid. This makes sense to me, as ascorbic acid (vit c) makes the salad last longer fresh. A cutting needs time to root and in that time rotting may occur, maybe thats how the vit C helps here.

6 months is quite a long winter but it's well worth a try. I would be inclined to check them regularly as Spring approaches to look for any signs of growth. If necessary you could always bring them into brighter conditions on a windowsil or conservatory a little earlier.

Took some cuttings from a Brookes Purple mid August following your tips. All are now growing well (with bottom heat) however two of them have sent out a flower stem. I did remove the original ones and was wondering should I remove these now or let them flower.

    • @vernongeranium9865

Remove the flowers while thery are still small - this will divert their energies into making root and leaf growth which is more important at this stage

After cutting the geraniums down, how long can you keep them in a dry climate over the winter? We have 6 months of winter here in Utah USA. Can I keep them in the garage in a dark box for six months?

I do aloe vera and rooting powder and the powder in late time off the year. This year i took some with vitamine just to try and those didnt root, and the aloe vera all rooted.
Losing a cutting is always possible so just take as much as you can and try out what is best for yourself and what gives you succes.
For me succes on aloe vera is losing 2 from 15 cuttings, the vitamine c 3 cuttings and never rooted, the rooting powder same as the aloe vera, and the rooting powder isnt expensive and over here in the Netherland a bottle cost you 5 euro and you can use it for long time and can root enough cuttings with the powder.
This year i do dipladenias for the first time, so i have to wait a couple off weeks to say wich rooted best.
I do cuttings because you safe a lot off money and you can take cuttings for your parents if the have a garden and want some plants back next year. And the cheapest way is always to propagate.
Those companies make enough profit, vut not over my back. You can always go look for a very bad pelargoniun the change the cant sell it is high, so sometime you can get the plant for free or just 50 cent. Cut is back deep, water it light once in 5 days and you see the plant comes back real good and in a week you see new growth on it.

I just clip them and put them immediately into wet warm potting soil. Keep them watered and they take off. I live in California so the climate may have something to do with it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hi, is it the same method for Trailing Geraniums, my first attempt at cuttings I took 30 from a plant that my late Father gave me and I so much want to keep this going, anyway I took the cuttings on the 10/10/18 and for about six to eight weeks all looked well, but now after 9 weeks all look dead except for three that were in a 3”pot and looking good but the other 27 have bit the dust and they were in 9 cell trays , would be happy for some expert advice please? And I did use rooting compound! Thanks

    • @vernongeranium9865
      @vernongeranium9865  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Same method can be used. It's possible they got too wet in the individual cells. If your 3" pot worked for you then I would stick to that method. Good luck.

Vernon Geranium there's tons of information on the web you can find. Honey naturally kills or prevents bacteria from growing... I know that much. How it stimulates roots, I have no idea, but it works for more than geraniums.
