I've been flying the 747 since 1972 when I was in the Army and stationed in Europe traveling back and forth from Frankfurt to JFK. Those were the early years for the 747. The flight was like no other. I was in awe on how smooth the take offs and landings were, and I remember sitting in my seat, looking down the aisle and thinking, how is this thing going to get off the ground! Well, they're a lot larger now, and IMO, no other airliner comes close. It's an Icon.Looking forward to a ride on the 8!
I'm only 15 and live in the north of the UK, but I would be more than honoured if I ever got the oppurtunity to work with Boeing on their amazing aircrafts
Thank you for building the most pretty plane in the world. Many tests, More safety. I thought the 747-8 was out last year! Congrats Boeing, you need a Nobel
The 747 is still the most beautiful Aircraft in the sky, with the classic extended upper fuselage and now the longest plane in the air. The only Aircraft to give the 747 a run at it's good looks is the Boeing 787 which is also a beauty in it's own right with it's gently sloped fuselage down past it's cockpit windows to it's chin along with the most efficient flowing wing in the market.
I'm 13 and I live in Calgary, Canada. 747s are a rare sight here, but if a 747-8 ever comes here, I would run in the street screaming (A 747-8 HAS LANDED HERE! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!)
Still the most beautiful shape in the sky with the most elegant lines which could never be mistaken for anything but a 747 whether sitting idle waiting it's turn to take off or at 45,000 feet plus flying just under Mach 1 heading to paradise in the South Pacific faster than any other jumbo jet flying today! One beautiful bad ass flying machine.
It's a real shame the City of Everett is just sitting in some field/hangar somewhere, it would've been a great thing to see original 747-100, the Everett, groudbreaking for it's time, fly alongside it's descendant, the 747-8, a groundbreaking plane today, even if it was just for one last fight.
+Brian Madolid The City of Everett is at the Museum of Flight, Boeing Field together with a NASA 737 & one 787 prototype. I'm pretty sure if they want her flying, it would fly.
congratulations Boeing..747 is my big love since its first flight..i hope and i wish to see this beauty flying soon from many airliners..do your best please..
It would be very disappointing & depressing day, if someday Boeing ever decides to end the production of this lengendary jet..........love it with my whole heart.
Love that design. Like a shark. And *this* paint job... wow! Really suits the shape. Maybe the the top floor could have been 15- 20 feet longer. The A380 is like an ugly duck.
damn straight this an aviation icon to me and my dad we absolutely love her . She has curvaceous good looks and is one sexy aircraft.the queen of the skies the one and only true queen of the skies.
Boeing THOUGHT it would cause of 747-400 but nowadays airlines prefer 2 engine fuel saving planes and the 777 is beating the 747-8i by miles. BUT 777 can't compete with 747 with cargo, which is why there are loads of 747-8 cargos.
Nope Boeing lost the contract last week due to problems with the 747-8i. The A380-900NEO is going to be the next Air Force One's. It is a testament to European dependability that the US would go with a foreign plane maker.
They usually do that on test flights, in case of an emergency or if the hydraulic systems fail. This plane costs too much to not be able to at least attempt to land in an emergency (and save the pilots lives as well).
Honestly it depends on what routes you are flying and how much marginal profit you are making as an airline company. Just looking at specs aren't going to do any justice in comparing the two.
Composite compressor blades...composite wing extensions. This aircraft deserved updating. The electronic controls light years ahead and less weight. If you doubt the durability of composites...don't...these materials are phenominal under stress, extreme temperatures, and chemical exposure. Aircraft lifespan and lower maintainance costs make this design a great investment for carriers.
well they did take over McDonnell Douglas, so technically, the music is their's, although this sounds more like a modified version of the MD-11 introduction music
I think the 747's direct successor may be on some of Boeing engineer's minds right now and we should see one in the foreseeable future, and what a day that will be. The 747-8I was a minor update to keep up to terms with the A380. For now, I think Boeing wants to focus on its Triple Sevens, I really think the 777X will be a game changer and who knows? Maybe we don't need the 747 after all.
to be honest it looks A LOT sexier than A-380. i like a-380, its a technological marvel, except i dont like its bulky shape.. this is the true "jumbo jet" the term we're familiar with.. and it will remain one!

i'm a fan of the A380, but i must say that the majestic elegance of the good old 747 is unbeatable. And this is the best looking version ever.
0:56 that cesna 172 pilot just witnessed history in front of his eyes
I'm only 15 and live in the north of the UK, but I would be more than honoured if I ever got the oppurtunity to work with Boeing on their amazing aircrafts
Wow! The most beautiful bird ever to grace the skies! She still wears her crown!
This is the "Real" queen of skies !!
Never stop making the 747!
Thank you for building the most pretty plane in the world. Many tests, More safety. I thought the 747-8 was out last year!
Congrats Boeing, you need a Nobel
Boeing 747-8i is the most beautiful airplane in the world.
Especially the color
It still has the classical looks and that graceful wingspan flying motion to it.
It was a great takeoff that morning. Glad I took my son to check it out... Plans ARE COOL!
Long live the 747, best widebody ever built

Awesome bird, I took a flight from Europe to N. America in the 747-800 intercontinental and loved it..
your lucky man! :D
Rayhan Kareem Very lucky indeed.
There is some amazing aircrafts in the world, but the 747 is the most beatifull!
more beautiful than A380, that's the truth!!! love it
I'm 13 and I live in Calgary, Canada. 747s are a rare sight here, but if a 747-8 ever comes here, I would run in the street screaming (A 747-8 HAS LANDED HERE! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!)

Wow i love that sunrise livery also what a beautiful aircraft
I like how it says experimental above the door xD
I love how it's reaaaal big and still has on "experimental" sign on it! Awesome!
Seeing it take off and fly kinda does something to you. I'm so glad they didn't spoil the iconic, dare I say, sexy shape! Great flying machines guys
beautiful plane! Wish i get on this someday
It's a real shame the City of Everett is just sitting in some field/hangar somewhere, it would've been a great thing to see original 747-100, the Everett, groudbreaking for it's time, fly alongside it's descendant, the 747-8, a groundbreaking plane today, even if it was just for one last fight.

tiadaid I could've sworn I saw a documentary in which they said the City of Everett was in disrepair, hmm, must've been wrong then.
Brian Madolid It was when I visited the museum back in 2012, but they just given her a new coat of paint last year.
amazing job boeing, love you
Dear Boeing, please drop the stupid music and let us hear the sound of the engines spooling up for the first take off.
congratulations Boeing..747 is my big love since its first flight..i hope and i wish to see this beauty flying soon from many airliners..do your best please..
BOEING IS THE BEST AIRCRAFT COMPANY EVER!!!!
So beautiful :')
Love this brand new aircraft!
+X-Plane Aviation LUV boeing
+X-Plane Aviation I hate airbus well i like the A300 A310 and A340 but i love Boeing asswell
Absolutely beautiful aircraft.
I wish this would get the sales rather than the A380... Such a beautiful plane!
Best looking airliner in the sky bar none!!!
This plane took off on my 13th birthday :) its my plane
Beautiful aircraft.
Boeing gives me emotions!! Such a magnificient Plane.
Magnificent Aircraft.
Fantastic design...beatifull take off!
WOW great plane congratulation !
ITS BEAUTIFUL!
What a gorgeous plane.
Are you planning to make the VIP 747-8?
Very beautiful aircraft!!
I wonder can a 747 can be fitted, and fly, with just 2 engines just like the 777?
beautiful slick looking design love it all airlines should have it
Lovely bird :)
EVERYBODY LOVES THE JUMBO JET - THE BEAUTIFUL BIG LADY OF THE SKIES X
It would be very disappointing & depressing day, if someday Boeing ever decides to end the production of this lengendary jet..........love it with my whole heart.
@cnpanesar98 Yess, it is your plane mate... :)
Happy 13th Birthday... You got a pretty big and massive and immense and huge gift...
:)
That thing is a beast
Beautiful! Splendid!
When will it go into service? Will it require 2 gates or 3 gates? I'm not sure
beautiful machine
What about a 747-8i SP ;)
Love that design. Like a shark.
And *this* paint job... wow! Really suits the shape.
Maybe the the top floor could have been 15- 20 feet longer.
The A380 is like an ugly duck.
Finaly some one who agreea with me
damn straight this an aviation icon to me and my dad we absolutely love her . She has curvaceous good looks and is one sexy aircraft.the queen of the skies the one and only true queen of the skies.
absolutely awesome
lovely machine, lovely people
As beautiful an aircraft this wondrous machine is, it runs a close second to the Lockheed Super Constellation of the 1950s!
@Boeing when will the 747-8 intercontinental come to San Francisco airport? I really want to see it fly over me
Do you think its possible to make a 747 which can be used on Smaller runways...?
This is my favorite airplane! ;p
amazing!!
How much longer can they get this aircraft get?
@froggiemolly They did the same thing with the airbus A380 maiden flight, its all part of testing for the first time
beautiful plane.
What do you think if it had the p 51 mustang airfoil
Long live Boeing and the Fortress of the Sky! The Seven 4 Seven!
I'm already 34 is it too late to become a pilot? :-)
I've flown the 300 400 747 s look forward to flying in the dash 8 version pretty soon.
Yeah me too.
I can't wait. I'm holding off until that day.
Does the 747-8 have the electrogadgetawesome windows shades?
Nice Video! Thanks BOEING.
Most beautiful first flight Boeing has. Why did they build the 747-8 though, it's not selling.
Boeing THOUGHT it would cause of 747-400 but nowadays airlines prefer 2 engine fuel saving planes and the 777 is beating the 747-8i by miles. BUT 777 can't compete with 747 with cargo, which is why there are loads of 747-8 cargos.
why the landing gear is down? 0.0
Don't forget this is a test flight . . .
Photos..........
In the first flight, the landing gear spends almost its whole time down, as they want to see how the plane will fly with its gear down.
The next "Air Force One."
Nope Boeing lost the contract last week due to problems with the 747-8i. The A380-900NEO is going to be the next Air Force One's. It is a testament to European dependability that the US would go with a foreign plane maker.
wondered why they didn't extend the upper deck all way to the back?
Do people who buy passenger jets watch TH-cam?
@Dartagnyn NOT TRUE! The 747 will ALWAYS be the most beautiful jumbo jet in the skies.
They usually do that on test flights, in case of an emergency or if the hydraulic systems fail. This plane costs too much to not be able to at least attempt to land in an emergency (and save the pilots lives as well).
Hey did you notice that they didnt retract the gear?! Why so?
Usually in test flights, just in case they have to make an emergency landing
fj3'
+soaringtractor He was just asking a question you douche
soaringtractor whatever dude. Go fly your little kite.
soaringtractor Jabiru doesn't count.
you should tell the pilot of the 747-8 to come to tampa florida
They went to Philadelphia to have some philly cheese steak sandwiches for that flight if anyone wanted a fun fact lol
Test pilot look like Ned Flanders.
redesign the wing to cruise at .90M with two GE9X engines and then let her loose to compete against the twin engine fleet
1:38 Seeing the beauty where she belongs - high above the skies, flexing her wing. Ehh.. with the gears down?
amazing as Galaxy C5
is the airbus a380 better or is the 747s?
B747-8 adopts more advanced design and technology than A380
张小岢 so the 747 is because it fuel efficient
Honestly it depends on what routes you are flying and how much marginal profit you are making as an airline company. Just looking at specs aren't going to do any justice in comparing the two.
747's of course!
Amy Chang HOWWW?
ME 2! I completely agree with you
Whats with the superman music?
I wish Philippine Airlines can buy that so sad :(
Sniff sniff
40 orders in 6 years isn't that hard to beat.
Composite compressor blades...composite wing extensions. This aircraft deserved updating. The electronic controls light years ahead and less weight. If you doubt the durability of composites...don't...these materials are phenominal under stress, extreme temperatures, and chemical exposure. Aircraft lifespan and lower maintainance costs make this design a great investment for carriers.
very beautiful..cannot compare to A380..
we ain't gone buckle up just take off
Same music as the DC10 introduction?
well they did take over McDonnell Douglas, so technically, the music is their's, although this sounds more like a modified version of the MD-11 introduction music
what a gorgeous plane!
awesome job guys
Such a better value price to performance over an F22.
so they redesign the exterior but the cockpit still looks old. They need to upgrade the cockpit like the 787 Dreamliner and the 777x
Done for the airlines so they have flight training commonality with the 747 family. Pilot training is expensive!
to be honest it looks A LOT sexier than A-380.
i like a-380, its a technological marvel, except i dont like its bulky shape..
this is the true "jumbo jet" the term we're familiar with..
and it will remain one!
