@khalithistle: It says "pioneered... for the cars most of us drive", i.e. not the Mercedes S-Class or Honda NSX. Of course it was Bosch who developed the system, etc.
@ZilogJones I think they mean the mechanical system for the MK 3 Escort which came out in the mid 80's. It really was the first time the general public had come into contact with ABS (I think it was called ALB then). Anyway, Ford invited a lot of customers to various test tracks to try it out. One test was to drive a non-ALB car with one side on grass and one on tarmac and try braking hard. Then they let you repeat with an ALB car. It was a good day out, from what I hear. :)
The Mondeo Mk. I & II were sold in North America as the Ford Contour and Mercury Mystique albeit with numerous modifications (different body panels, etc.). The North American Focus Mk. I was by no means identical either - lights were significantly different to meet federal standards, and the base models had awful CVH engines, among other things.
They actually were quite well regarded.
I still have a mk1, on an N reg. I wouldnt change it for the world
and it keeps sailing through MOTs apart from one issue - high emissions which is strange for a mondeo probably a knackered exhaust system
@@paulisthebest3uk Have you tried a new O2 sensor?
Traction Control in 90s!
I have the mk1 1.8 td and it's a lovely car. Feel privileged to drive it (I must be the most boring person on the planet)
Do you still have it?
@@matthewking5612 Cambelt snapped in 2014 so it's long gone!
@@ThomsonAirwaysFs Oh, how sad. Yeah, they do need doing every 40k

That was a two channel mechanical Bendix system.

Where the sporty models even any good? I know there was the 2.5 V6 but I'm guessing it had horrible torque steer
It wasn't actually that quick, the V6 Cavalier showed it a clean pair of heels.
@jamie88694 It really was a great car! :)
The Focus lived up to the "World Car" better than the Mondeo did
i hate these smooth looking shits.
you cant customize one without making it riced.
a stock mondeo is boooooooring!
