Thank you for this video. This was the first Mondeo to be officially sold by Ford in New Zealand and they were very popular here (Paul Radisich's racing Mondeo success helped!). Sadly they are getting rare now.
@@lloydvehicleconsulting You're welcome. Wind up windows? I thought that they became extinct in the Jurassic Period! Funny thing is that I recently saw an early episode of Midsomer Murders where Inspector Barnaby drove around in a then brand-new example of a similar car. For a basic car, the interior is actually very smart. Wasn't the motor in this vehicle made with Mazda Xedos components?
@@lloydvehicleconsulting Of course this replaced a Mazda-based product in New Zealand, the Ford Telstar, which Paul Radisich also raced here. There was a special edition version Radisich Telstar, powered by the 2.5 V6. Have you ever had the opportunity to review a Ford Probe? We had those here too.
Great review Sir & a blast from the past. It looks like the only difference from LX to GLX was the Velour interior & posh wheel trims & maybe the power mirrors
@@lloydvehicleconsulting My first company Rep mobile was a May 1998 Mondeo LX hatch, manager’s / directors had E30 318i tourer’s, then Mondeo Ghia’s, much to their disgust.
I had an X-reg Ghia X automatic saloon in this colour with sunroof & the same 2L engine for eighteen months. Cheap luxury motoring, bum burning heated seats & the front heater windscreen we’re luxuries unknown to myself who had owned only 1.2L Corsa cars his whole life. Yet is was cheaper to buy & insure than those cars & still retuned around 32mpg so all things considered I got a good car. I still look back with fond memories of my first taste in Luxo-barge motoring & I sold the car for a profit.
The depreciation on these Mondeos at the time was pretty catastrophic, even the Ghia Xs! Would have been an absolute bargain. Glad you enjoyed yours back in the day, sir.
I do prefer the mk1s to the mk2s. Had a 1996 mk1 Ghia 2.0 which had cruise control but yearned for the Ghia X v6. Had interesting ICT speakers designed by Goodmans, later licensed to Tannoy.
Its a rare saloon modeal and has velour seats which I like. 😃 Ford were copying the original Mercedes- Benz C Class in consideration of those 3D style tail lights.
🙋♂️ I always thought this was a facelift of the original. Remember the originals were very prone to pulling to the left. Not sure if fixed by this point.
Well, that could've been nice 1st car for any unexperienced driver. Rear legroom doesn't matter here as much, as does absence of underbody rust, IMO. Those cars literally disappeared after 4 to 5 years driving on winter roads. Spare parts (glass, doors or front/rear wings) are scarce now too.
Yes, they used to rust quite badly back in the day, and they were considered very disposable cars due to massive fleet sales and heavy depreciation. I quite enjoyed it, I just prefer the higher trim levels myself...
Mondeo and Fiesta both consigned to the history books. Sad times indeed for Ford. 😢
Indeed, sir, we live in a crazy world, it seems! Thank you very much indeed for watching and commenting.

Sir, yes, we do remember Paul Radisich from back in the day. Thank you for watching and commenting!

No, sir, unfortunately not.

The Probes are extremely rare, been trying to get one for years.

Yes, strange sort of halfway house between the LX and the Ghia, but the Ghia was an awful lot better.

Sir, it was all about the status rather than the practicality or level of specification, wasn't it?
Now just hang on a minute, you have nailed it this time sir, kudos, 👏
Sir, we aim to please....
@@lloydvehicleconsulting I was lucky enough to have a 1.8glx hatch in 1998 and it really was all the car anybody would ever need 😁
I suppose it must have been back in the day!
Ford got it absolutely spot on with these early Mondeos . Personally I prefer the Mk1 though.
A lot of people did not really like the Mark II when it came out, from what I remember.
I have to say the Mk2 was the Mondeo with the most character - instantly recognisable!
Sir, it seems to be quite a nostalgic choice these days, doesn't it?
Glad you enjoyed the video, sir, we may have another one of these coming up at some point...
Another excellent little review Sir, for £995 something is going to grab a modern retro bargain.
Yes, sir, I don't think that this is too bad at all. The Lanos has sold!

A horrid box, and sometimes only lasting 40,000! The MTX 75 was the one to have.

Also notice the 4 on the rev counter for the 4 cylinder engine and RF central locking...mk1s had infra red
Yes sir, a lot of people didn't particularly like the look of the Mark II when it came out. We do like the V6 Ghia X..

That's right, lots of lovely velour, but not much equipment. Some people like that sort of thing, though, don't they?

Yes, sort of quite a heavy facelift of the Mark I. I don't remember this one pulling to the left.

Mondeo Man !
I was for an hour or so, sir.
Speaking of cassette tapes, do you have one containing Plastic Love by Mariya Takeuchi?
Sadly not, sir....
The GLX VERSION AND THE GHIA WERE VERY NICE ANY MODELS UNDER THAT WERE NOT SO GOOD, SHAME THEY NEVER PUT A CD PLAYER IN EM?
I think you definitely could get a CD player in these, although it would have been an option on the GLX.
