This Spain travel vlog we fly to Barcelona and start our crazy route to Madrid with 5 nights sleeping in a car. We felt like geniuses with our European budget travel hack. Sleeping in the car for 5 nights worked out cheaper than 1 nights accommodation anywhere we looked. We have left Turkey for a short time and have a brief trip in Spain while going to experience Liverpool in the Champions League Final. We visit a Spanish supermarket to get some snacks and by the provisions to sleep in the car.

Move the front seats all the way forward. Lay down the back seat and scratch out in the back. Roll down the window and hang a tshirt and roll up for sun protection.
If you only have 1-3 nights, sleeping in a car is brilliant because you have your transport and accommodation, and you can rent a car and travel anywhere you want for half the cost as you don;t need to book accommodation :D

Never in a foreign country (yet) but a friend and I did sleep in the car on a long weekend 'fun trip'. Saturday morning we left the Washington DC area for Williamsburg, VA to go to Busch Gardens (an amusement park). When we left there we went through Newport News/Hampton/Norfolk, VA and across/under the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. As it started getting dark we found a little rinky-dink church on the side of the road and slept in the car in the little parking lot. The next morning we continued driving to Rehoboth Beach, DE (slept a bit more in the car before laying on the beach for the day). Headed back home to the Washington DC area that afternoon/evening. I'd do it again in a heartbeat!
This reminds me of family vacations in my parents car. At least you're not sleeping in the back seat with two annoying siblings. Our dad thought using the hose you'd find in gas/petrol stations were good to give our hair a wash. Your trip so far looks like heaven.

Can’t you let the backseats down and sleep there ? You really need a proper sleeping bag & some blackout cloth for the windows & some blackout eyemasks maybe, run the car engine & heater just before you climb into bed simple. All it takes is a little planning, admire your optimism and good laughs you had together ❤

i slept 5 months in my jaguar XJ 5.0 V8 when I lived in florida, better I spent my budget for cars than for renting ;)

I once slept in a car at a ski resort in winter. It was freezing cold and a terrible night. The next night my friend wanted to do it again but I refused and we booked into a really shitty hotel but it was better than the car. You guys get hardcore traveller bonus points for 5 nights in a car and still smiling 😂

Twice slept / hid in a disabled toilet cubicle in Geneva airport to go and watch Bolton play in Madrid then Lisbon. Think I got about an hour or two both times but was well worth it. Geneva airport shuts its doors to the public at midnight so I had to hide or be kicked out and as I was working as a transfer driver from the airport I had worked out that the toilets went without any cleaners going in from around 8pm till 6am so was safe to lock myself in one. Not my proudest moment but I got a free lift from one of my follow drivers and avoided paying for a room in one of Europe's most expensive city's. Winning

I'm 190cm tall. In 1970, I crossed Australia driving a Honda Scamp, sleeping in the front seat, driver's side, beside the road.

In the smaller towns around Spain air bnb can be a very good value. And the petrol stations that are only connected to the motorway. They usually have showers. Sometimes you have to search a bit.

haha unfortunately not.. it was quite a compact car so the options were pretty limited. it wasn't that bad really 😜
Well done for sleeping in the car. It didn't look very comfortable. We've slept in many weird places, especially when we hitchhiked from Thailand to Spain. We pitched our tent under the motorway in the Chinese desert, slept on our sleeping mats in back of trucks, you name it! 🙏😊 In Bosnia we camped in two different parks and one had drunk teens walking around.
Luckily no one disturbed us. Looking forward to the next video.
Baby wipes to the rescue. We've gone days on the road only washing ourselves with baby wipes and ambit of water and that's after a very sweaty days on the road hitchhiking. But it works!

Travel Beans Haha we're super comfortable at the moment. Hardly ever camp, don't couchsurf and stay in Airbnbs instead. It was easy to push ourself to camp in weird places when we had the big mission to get to Europe. Now we're just all over the place and not sure what the hack we're doing. 😊

This is the only way my friends and I do road trips. We rent a crossover SUV though. We don’t stop driving unless all three of us is tired at the same time. We try to do as many miles as possible by rotating drivers. So almost always driving. On those occasions where we all need to sleep at the same time we pick a spot like you did or a rest area. We put down all the seats in the back to make it as flat as possible and sleep laying down. I can see why those front seats were a problem. We use wet wipes like y’all did. We pack a cooler with cheap food so we save money that way too. We pack clothes of course but to be honest we only use half the pair we bring, that’s just laziness.

I slept in a car for a few nights. I took an estate (station wagon) and an air bed. The rear seat folded flat-ish. It wasn't bad at all.

here's a tip for when you can't properly shower. IF you can get apple cider vinegar, you can give yourself quite a good wash with just a bucket of water, adding the vinegar, and a washing cloth. this method, where you wring out the cloth and scrub all over your body, also eliminates the need for a drying off towel.

This is awesome haha, very smart.. we would definitely do this!! Especially since the Airbnb we had in Barca was so bad anyway! we never thought much of doing this because the rules for sleeping in cars are very strict in the US (aka in most places you are not allowed to). Great job guys!! And hope your next accommodation is a bit better 😂
😂😂😂😂😜. I’m not even lying I planned doing this whilst searching for a piece of land to buy in Spain and Portugal. I plan driving from UK though with a decent tent, and then if I find a land to buy ask if the seller would let me stay on it during the purchase process. All I need is reliable mobile internet because of work, so if anyone has any advice for accessing a reliable service that is consistent across both countries that would be helpful 👍🏽

Brutal. But extremely funny! Too bad you did not rent a van. An air mattress works very well if you have a flat surface. I am not sure it's possible to sleep in a reclined position unless one is some type of power sleeper. Most other people are going to suffer under such an arrangement. Oooh something else -- neither of you had eyeshades or earplugs! Good things to have.
Oh , I bet you wished you could still rent the old Volvo Estate, enough room for a double bed in the back. You don't have a 12v charger, but modern cars no longer have cigarette lighters, or do they but often have a USB port for charging devices, often tucked away in the centre console. Have fun with the rest of your travels. Truck stops that have overnight parking have showers along with a lot of roadside services. 👸🧔💋💋
Yes, the USB ports are extremely useful for charging most of our things (camera, phone etc).. just not the laptops. A Volvo Estate would have been SO good compared to that tiny thing haha it wasn't too bad though..
you dummies..... hihi, you had a Citroën hatchback. you could have folded the back sits flat and get a huge space. granted its not long enough to stretch you'r legs and you would had have to buy something to lay on since the boot and the back of the chairs is basically plywood covered in carpet, but it would have been much better than the chairs. a hatchback is the most versatile kind of car. you silly beans..... ;-) oh how i miss my Citroën...... love your videos guys.... have a wonderful day.. btw.. another quick tip, since it's a hatchback you can sit in the back with the chair folded and the hatch open and you get a great spot to eat in and in a hatchback you could also remove the back shelf and lay it on the wheel hubs and you get yourself a nice table. don't know if it would have worked in the c3 but in my xsara it did

We slept in a car for 3 days in the Canadian Rockies as hotels were $200 a night and let us tell you that the baby wipes were out in full force. Oh and it started snowing, so it wasn't cold at all.....got to do what you got to do eh?
