Dj Koko bro! Dude rips up the 45's with funk and old school breaks, love that dj he's definitely keeping it alive and I love watching him work so quickly with them
I just wanna say I've been djaying since the 80's hip hop funk soul boogie jazz you get the point. Like most Hip Hop days we got on the technology wave serato, Traktor etc. Sole some records and loads went in to storage and are in various places I've had records that have been in storage about 10 years I was recently as to do but it was 45s only I LOVED IT and now I haven't put my laptop on since all my dj instinct came flowing back all the stuff that I didn't realise I had lost. I'm even gonna rally some djs that I know have a great collection of 45s and put on a night. 45s RULE 🤣🤣
Being in awe by "The Adventures Of Grandmaster Flash On The Wheels Of Steel" I can still remember buying myself two 45s of Chic's "Good times", which had the 8 min version on them and scratching the heck out of them on my 1200's until they literally became unplayable.
I had a hunderd of these back in the late 70s to early 80s...then moved onto cassette tapes & vinyls...12" had better quality & longer versions for singles,bt I always bought the albums cos I wanted the whole package...george benson's "breezin" was my 1st 45...compared to my older brothers funk & motown ones...great to see someone still considers using them
I just started my vinyl journey last year with the purchase of a Pro Ject DB3 and some records I got from my dad. Findinf your channel is probably one of the best things I found so far here on YT. These 12inch adapters for singles are great. Thanks mate. Earned a sub.
I've been collecting and playing out on sevens now for coming up to eight years, and it has revolutionised my sets. The main thing for me is the dynamism of the set: you have to make your choice, find your cue and do the mix within three or four minutes - it just keeps things exciting for me and, by reflection, for the dance-floor. If I could ask you one thing please: just shut up about it! Please don't flood the market with DJs playing sevens - I enjoy the notoriety and the exclusiveness! Also, you're going to push the prices up....
After watching this i have to recommend Breakaweights, made from Breakaway Records in Austin, TX. Heavy duty stabilizers with 45 adapter built in on one side, flat on the other for 12"s. 2 mastersounds weights in one.
I notice that you are using a turntable with a straight tone arm . This is fine for 12" singles but not for 7" singles as the tracking arc is wrong. To rectify this issue you should use a headshell so that the cartridge can be mounted at an angle. Using the Ortophon concord tends to cause the records to jump or stick as you get towards the end of the records. Try using a alignment tool to get the correct tracking arc .
Such an interesting video just learning to Di and got loads of 45s and they are fun to play thankyou for your product knowledge aswell really interesting!
These 7" are realy charming. If I wouldn't use almost only digital media for casual listening I'd have lots of those because of my girlfriend's addiction to Northern Soul tracks. ;-)
Hey - that was a really interesting piece - thanks for making the time, I learnt a lot, specifically about techniques of carrying the tune through. Where do you get the donuts from? They do seem better that the twisters.... Can I provide a reflection? I play off predominantly 45's and some 12's - all vinyl, I have two residencies in Newcastle and they are always rocking! - it depends what you play in terms of whether it works or not? I was playing in a festival in Ireland last year and I played just before Norman Jay (who rocked up with CDs) and I was speaking to jerry dammers after and he said my set sounded loads better as vinyl sounded much better than the CDs that were being used. There are a number of djs that use the 45 format, I think of jerry - who is a wicked reggae DJ and also Andy smith (of portishead/the document fame) who runs nights, all off 45 format. There is also that immense Mr Thing boiler room set! Anyhoo - all good keep the great work goin...
+simon denny Thanks Simon. If you're in Newcastle, find me on Facebook, I'd love to come and hear you spin! The Donuts are distributed by Scratch Pro Audio in the UK, but I'm guessing they don't have stock right now as they aren't listing them on eBay or Amazon. Again, hit me on FB I'll send you their contact details. Big up the 45 crew!
Totally agree...just a few weeks ago I've played a whole set in the club with *only* 7"singles. The photographer there said: "Wow, those little records are sooo damn *sexy* !!!"...while photographin' my decks like mad. xD When I started Dj-ing, I made lots of mixes with only 7"s, because it's harder...and yes, it made me better...^^ My 1st record was a 7" too, back in the 80s...I always loved that format & always will.
7” are so much fun! 😊 A couple of critisism though: 1) Can’t believe how careless you handle your records. It’s almost unbearable to watch you constantly plant your greasy fingers directly on the grooves. 2) Rough cardbord under playing record will for sure scratch it. 3) When adding accessories directly on the platter to secure better grip, height adjusment of the tonearm should be made, to secure correct tracking of the stylus.
I can't. Other than cost and transport convenience, which I understand, 45s don't really don't have many more advantages over the 12". For those who prefer them, I see you, tho'.
Where can I find those white 45 album covers at? I just picked up about 200 45s but there all in just a paper sleeve and would like to have them in a white album cover
They're readily available from Amazon or EBay - I'd suggest you buy a small quantity first, and find the ones that work for you before buying enough to do your whole collection.
Well done! Here's another type of 45rpm / 7 inch stabilization that can also be used on 12" & 10" records by placing the 45 adaptor on top of the 12"/10" then adding the weight. While it's not as heavy as the Mastersound, it is MUCH lower profile which is handy if want to be able to hand the record without the stabilizer in your way. Here is a link to what I'm talking about at Turntable Lab - turntablelab.com/products/osmose-sound-dj-osmose-7-vinyl-record-stabilizer
if you're bound to use just 45s, then i rather use CDs. What's the difference on spinning small vinyl on a spinning platter of a CDJ? plus you got a lot of song titles on a CD vs a back to back 2 titles, yes the quality of music is there because it's a vinyl but the hands free of 45" mixing and scratching will kill your skills. 12" is always the right to go with a vinyl
45's are great, but that see-saw effect when trying to queue is absolutely annoying! I think we can come to a middle-ground where i'd just rather use 12" singles🤪
What do you guys think sounds better 45's 7inches or 331/2 12 inch records? I do know in the UK they pressed alot of Records at 45rpm, even alot of the 12 inches. Definitely Vinyl is the best format when it comes to sound quality.
45 RPM has the best sound quality according to those who press vinyl, but you can't hold as much song per side, so that is why they use 33 rpm as you can hold (18 mins on 33, 12 mins on 45).
On a more serious note... That's part of the challenge of 45 mixing. You have to do more drop mixes, much shorter beatmatched transitions, that kind of stuff. It's worth trying to do that with other formats, even if you can't/don't play 45s. A lot of the time we get too comfortable (myself included) having nice intros to mix with.
+nacho martin, +MojaxxVDJ and +VoiceActingGod are right... you have to really know yor records because of the limited amount of time you have a) choose a track b) adjust your tempo c) get in the mix. Usually 4 to 8 bars and then BAM! If you watch this short clip of me having a little practice session, you'll get the idea. Of course, I still have loads of room to improve but it might help you :) facebook.com/tee.cardaci/videos/10209299594340771/
Not forgetting that all that electronic plug in usb hard drive business won't be worth anything like those little bits of plastic with a hole in the middle, especially if it's old soul and reggae...$$$$$$$$$
45's are alot of $$.. i have some that you can't buy anymore. You will ruin your records if you scratch alot. Simple mixing will save you $$ and save your records too.
Flea markets, thrift stores, eBay (if you're patient and lucky). Pretty much anything can be found on Discogs, but there people know the value of everything... You just have to spend enough time digging!
You'd be amazed at how many amazing disco, boogie, funk, and soul tracks (all genres, really) can be had for a buck or two on discogs. Amazing (and even obscure) records don't have to be rare and pricey! The trick is knowign what to look for. TH-cam is great for discovering new (old) music.
and one tip NEVER TOUCH THE BURN PART OF A VINYL WITH YOUR FINGERS (unless you're going to do some scratching witch is the case that you don't need some ultra good quality audio)
...they developed the 12" for a much louder cut which is physically impossible with a 45...aside from little scratch records and the odd funk/soul edit they won't gel with 12's and digital tracks and really only applicable for portable scratch dj's...this is purely marketing and gimmickry.
Dj Koko bro! Dude rips up the 45's with funk and old school breaks, love that dj he's definitely keeping it alive and I love watching him work so quickly with them
I sit here at 45 years old watching lessons on “how to play vinyl”. I never expected this - ever!
Nice Video! and btw MACKA B is the best! haha good shirt :)

Whoever makes the first direct drive 7" turntable will be the winner.....
Google Technics SL-700
I've a lot of 45s and I love to play them. Love the accessories that you shown in the video. ;)
My thrift shop sells 45’s 10 cents a piece. Can’t wait until COVID is over so I can start digging again.

I agree 100%. The energy stays up when you're playing 7"s. No sitting around for 6 to 8 minutes waiting to mix your next track.
lol just switch to digital, you can switch every second if you want
Best Dj "podcast" of all time!
6:15 awsome thanks for sharing i need this and the Dr. Suzuki Donuts too! Big up
Love that Macka B T-Shirt!
Can you do a video on sleeves? I really wanna see a good sleeve comparison video. For DJ's & Collectors =)
Before the 12 " came along 45's Is wot I played In the Clubs. I still have them 30,000 plus.
SYD-DEF-JAM make a centre dink that has a rubber o-ring that grips the inner edge of the 45 making easy to cue/scratch.
I say 2022 is the year of the 45 revival
Great video. What a champ you are!
After watching this i have to recommend Breakaweights, made from Breakaway Records in Austin, TX. Heavy duty stabilizers with 45 adapter built in on one side, flat on the other for 12"s. 2 mastersounds weights in one.
Man that custom 1200 is beautiful. Having a dicer built in like that is dope.
Is it based on a MK2 or a MK3 ... can't read the faceplate ... ??
It has no pitchlock-button...sooooo ?!
Pssssst...so it must be an MK2^^
45s are dope. I recently got into cassettes and cassingles for a similar reason.
Vinyl we seh!!! shirt hard mi bredda

Kids need more Mojaxx.
I only play out with 45's as they are much easier to carry around and sound louder compared with album cuts

45's are fun, I agree !

ABSOLUTELY AGREE!! They are damn SEXY!!
Thank you for the great tips!
Gotta go to Play De Record to get some 45s
Kinda weird that you mention that place... I've been to Canada just once in my life... But I bought vinyl there when I did! 😳
+MojaxxVDJ Love Play De record! They just moved locations for the first time ever, stoked to check it out.
Awww , I kinda miss the ol little single , just don't miss lugging them around ha ha .
Still not easy to lug around but FAR less weight than a bag of 12"s!
Thank you. That was all the information I needed!
didnt knew that zanguief was such an audiofile!
7” are so much fun! 😊

Did you realise that this is a Dj Channel?
@@Dubmayer So a DJ shouldn’t care for their records ?
Great video
I want to play but I have no idea where to start 🤦🏾♂️
I can't. Other than cost and transport convenience, which I understand, 45s don't really don't have many more advantages over the 12". For those who prefer them, I see you, tho'.
Amen Brother.
what about playing with 33 and 45 recs ? you think that makes u get better or not
good stuff thanks for break down.....inspiring.
Love your G-1 Transformers!!!

Dj ZomBeatz damir.com

Where can I find those white 45 album covers at? I just picked up about 200 45s but there all in just a paper sleeve and would like to have them in a white album cover

CD’s: Fake, 45’s: Real Stuff.
Could you put a mini tube amp between the turn table and the mixer? Just something about true tube amp sound.
If the tube amp has phono connections and a ground pin, the I cannot see any reason why not?
I am From Brazil and I can not find 45 7" house music here. Any suggestion where I can buy online?
I'd say Discogs would be the perfect match for your need...
Mojaxx, is that custom based on a MK2 or a MK3 ... I can't read the faceplate in this vid ... ??
Ah, a 1210 I see, from your customisation video ... still, MK2 or 3?
th-cam.com/video/HQgyT1koM98/w-d-xo.html
Love 45s!
I wonder about the mini turntable?
Mixed with 45's from the very beginning.
Vinyl and turntables are the only way to go for me. no upgrades every few months like cdjs and controllers!!
what record sleeves are you using?
floortoceilingradio - vinyl 45s only radio station!
45's are great, but that see-saw effect when trying to queue is absolutely annoying! I think we can come to a middle-ground where i'd just rather use 12" singles🤪
You could play 10 inch. I've got about 40 or so. ❤️👌
how i buy xdj-rx in bangladash
plenty tune still pessed on 45,most originals are 45 first then 12.i even have a 45 that plays at 33
Great! Thanks!
it doesn't seems right when you scratch on that small vinyl lols.
que technics más guapoOo
I love it !!!
You can literally fit over 7min. On a 45 rpm.

Right, I have a lot of Reggae at 45RPM on 12inch records. Most of them sound pretty good.
i'm kind of new to djing but how do you mix songs if they're radio edits?
Quickly. ;)

+MojaxxVDJ yep, that's true, mixing with extended mix is easier than mixing in between drops
+nacho martin you gotta also know the song very well in order to mix them.

amazing
Where did you get your turntables with the Novation buttons ? Was this a custom made turntable you build ?
Go back through the videos on this DJcity channel a few weeks; there's a whole vid about customising Techs.
DJ Zangief
Love it
Why scratching??? treat your 7"´s with well!. I am DJ with only 7"´s too. I know what I am talking about.
"... 12 inches came later ..."
No need to brag, Mojaxx ... ...
Track name?
All the music I use in these videos is unreleased demo tracks from one of our in-house DJcity producers. So not available anywhere I'm afraid.
MojaxxVDJ i really wanted to hear what comes after the build up :D
No.
+ithinkmynameismoose Yes.
it's the sync button of vinyl djing, huh?

Tell that to DJ Scratch :)
