  • It seems obvious why DJs would want to clean their DVS control vinyl, but many of them don’t. In this episode of "Tips & Tricks," DJcityTV’s Mojaxx explains the benefits of washing your control vinyl and how to go about doing it.

    If you use concorde's, this will save you a TON of money on styli
    I used to go through a pair of Pro s styli about every 2 months. and timecode every 3 months. Last time my styli wore out I bought a pair of mf7 styli and bully breaks 5 vinyl when my local shop was going out of business (got an AMAZING deal)and decided to really really take care of my vinyl, because these styli are impossible to come by in the states and the vinyl is sold out.
    fast forward a year later, and i'm still rocking the same styli, and the same needle's. I bought some regular cleaning fluid, a ton of microfibre's from the dollar store, and i clean them after every time i play. I also use hand sanitizer often while gigging to prevent hand gunk..
    Save yourself a ton of money over time, and just be a clean dj

    Nice video's, but why the straight tone-arm? Along with the ORTOFON cartridge the tip is not straight on the groove as I can also see clearly in the shots from above, so why not the (original) S-arm that puts the tip of the ORTOFON straight on the groove?

      @AblationMusic 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      VIParts NL First of all, straight arm DJ turntables are designed strictly for sheer groove-holding capability, and not for fidelity. Harmonic distortion on a short, straight tonearm will increase by double, which can limit the effectiveness of any great sounding cartridge, regardless of manufacturer.
      Using a Concorde cartridge will work fine, granted that is a spherical stylus. It should be noted that an elliptical stylus will likely not sit properly within the groove, and may result in unbalanced sound reproduction on this type of tonearm. Source: Ortofon Website

    LISTEN TO THIS MAN!!! I am in the process of cleaning over 200 records that was gifted to me by my grandmother in law, so we are talking about records from the 1960's that were stored away in her basement for DECADES, and no they weren't stored properly, so only 5 records are not playable. I came here to find out how to clean control vinyl since I just got my first pair, good to know I can continue to use my record cleaner machine for these.

    And it's not just for a better signal. If you scratch, you get a lot more friction with your hand (thus, control) on a clean vinyl than on a dirty/oily.

    Rubbing alcohol + Distilled Water + Spray bottle from Walmart is about $4 total and does the job just fine. This method is tried and true, plus won't dry out your wax.

      What dilution of alcohol in the distilled water is recommended? 50:50?

      Get a record cleaning machine, they are cheap and they do better job because you are cleaning both sides of the vinyl at the same time and you get a record rack for air drying which only takes 15 mins

    38 years back. Just a wet tea towel and wipe away. Any scratches were from paper stuck from record paper sleeves and dry off .

    Funny that your talking about this issue because I was just dealing with this issue last week. I clean all my Serato vinyl with this cleaning solution that I bought years ago ( I m on the road right now so I'll post the name when I get home) and now after the cleaning they work like new vinyl.

    I love the video... but I had a question that kinda goes along with Control Vinyl up keep.... I have alot of control vinyl that I have put in a bin and all of it is slightly warped to one side.... still plays and works but it's hard to scratch on obviously... trying the remedies for fixing or flattening my vinyl back... but just wondering if you have any suggestions for fixing this... thought it would make a great video for you because I know I'm not alone in this problem

      @djgonz123 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stephen Gonzalez I've run into that also.I had to form the record by trying to shape it back to place.sometimes I'll get records with a bit of a bowl shape to them making it hard to backspin on them.

    man, i am having a hard time with my needles tracking after doing this... is anybody else having similar issues? tried cleaning off the needles to but no avail... before i did this, record was tracking just fine along with the needles...

    • @TherealChrisLudlum
      @TherealChrisLudlum 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure how the tracking got worse. Did you change S lipmats with different thickness? Maybe check the specks on you cartridges and style you may need to rebalance and raise or lower the tone arm. Just a suggestion not insinuating you have not.

    Never NEVER handle your records with your fingers! Grip them by their edges. It just infuriates me when I see people doing that. For me personally, I've tried many vinyl cleaning methods but I've found the BEST is the soap and water method. I've found that soap and water has removed heavily embedded dirt and fingerprints from my records, COMPLETELY restoring the sound as well as getting rid of that awful electric static charge! I've had records that were LITERALLY unplayable until giving them a thorough deep clean in soap and water and the difference is like day and night! I have about 120 LP's and around 200 45's and I have cleaned ALL of them like this and never damaged one single record!! Another secret of mine?? All my LP's are stored in MoFi High Fidelity archival inner sleeves as - and my 45's are also stored in high quality archival sleeves. I also use the Mr. Clean magic eraser method to clean my stylus and the stylus gets cleaned after playing every side! I never play two sides of a record without cleaning the stylus. Take my advice ladies and gentlemen and follow my advice. I have some records that are nearly 80 years old and they play and sound NEARLY like new and NOW you know why! Your welcome.
