@@vgavilla I'm just a beginner, but I've already realized that the knobs are surprisingly sensitive. You think he's doing nothing, but if he moved it any more it would be too much
Hi all. Another fun scratch to try is called the drill. It’s basically a very fast scribble. Just tense your arm & move the record really fast. It works great with a kick or snare drum to get the drilling sound!
as a person who grew up among dj community and worked as tech/stage manager who read all manuals and done all equipment changeovers at many festivals over 15 years i’m finally starting my own journey of djing and i loved this video as there’s no bs, just simple and coherent instructions - bloody love it!

Scratch DJ Academy. I’m a 51 year old hip hop drummer who has a badly damaged right wrist that has had 7 bone crunching operations to date and I feel my drumming days are limited … I’ve always wanted to be able to do this … I do not have any vinyl records so would a Serato set up be a good choice as I have about 8 tbs of music in my iTunes …. If so could you recommend a set up? Not necessarily the bone cheapest but also not a full on Mix Master Disaster set up either …
i really liked your tutorial its simple enough kids can do it. i'm a local bboy and teacher in my state of RI. I was wondering if you have any virtual resources for my kids related to DJ, scratching, beat mixing or hip hop knowledge that i can share with them.

Hey, is the drag skratch what you would use when doin your 1-Click Flares, & 2-Click Flares? Please, what is the difference between scratching on a dj controller like the Numark Mixtrack Pro FX and a Technics SL 1200? I know that the jog doesn't make the movement back, so in this case I have to do this movement on the controller?
Im 44 years old and I would like to start Djing as a hobby. At my age should I even bother? i saw a 50 year old today at the mall doing a fantastic job djing with such a basic setup, to be honest older people have the advantage when it comes to finding gigs, im only 13 and many dont trust me because of that
You’re taking the piss... but when he’s first setting up he’s checking the high/mid/low EQs have been reset. He does it again it’s probably instinctive. And he only touches them because they have a notch so you can tell by feel they’re centred. And often when you see DJs doing that they’re cutting e.g. the bass on a track before mixing it in, maybe they’re also reducing the mid range on the playing track to create ‘space’ in the mix. You might not hear much since you can do it slowly/subtly too. Plus he’s also tweaking the gain I.e. the volume of each track throughout too. Again, subtle.
Always thought it was easier and less confusing to put the tape marker @ 9 o'clock where your hand would start, letting it go and following the marker pulling it back to the beginning position.
Video was very well put together and explained but I do believe that the "scribble" was misinterpreted. What was called the scribble in this video was basically just a double timed baby scratch. The scribble is basically a Joe Cooley scratch with no use of the fader meaning a regular baby followed by that doubled timed baby back to a regular baby. Definitely a good video to demonstrate different drills
Wow you made that so easy. I had no idea how to scratch, but this tutorial was perfect. Wish there was a school in san diego i could go to learn more. I blend beats but could never scratch. Thanks
when I try to scratch the platter never moves freely even if I'm very gentle with it.. is there any trick to it? also, how do I avoid destroying the other side of the vinyl while practicing to scratch? I mean there's always quite a bit of friction and I guess that's really bad for the record
Why do DJ keep touching the knobs on the mixer? You touch that knob on the top 6 times and never adjusted it, it's still at the 12 o'clock position. All my DJ friends do the same thing, is it just to look busy?
Lol it's to make adjustments to the eq... In this video, he adjusts it ever so slightly, but sometimes it's just a reflex action and it's not really adjusted, and yeah some DJs do it to look busy. 😂
Maan I'd like to get back into cutting but me & my childhood friend would cut together in these moments. He recently committed suicide & I feel part of me died too , it's hard or maybe some things are meant to be memories. Idk...

Your hands moves up on the down beat of the baby scratch but then your hand moves down on the down beat of the scribble scratch, was that on purpose? Or does it not even matter?
I have seen a few dh's recommend that the tape on the platter method how ever i and using Traktor DJ and as you know the platter is complete 360. Is it still a good idea to use the tape methods on this controller or should i just be paying attention to the screen and watching the wave itself?
Tape doesn't help with controller jog wheels. Unlike a vinyl, where the sample is in a fixed physical location, the position on the controller's jog wheel will change every time you use the sample. A lot of controller are starting to incorporate og wheel disthat will sh the needle position relative to your cue point, eg. pioneer DDJ 1000.
Anyone know the name of the first breakbeat (the one on the left, off-screen player, not the vinyl he is scratching but the one he scratches over) and where I can find more similar ones?
There's the basics.. then there is how the DJ actually 'feels' what he's doing with that technique, which is what separates him or her from the rest . 😉
