    I was 15 when I attended the Wings Over America concert in KC on May 29th 1976. It was my first concert. It remains the greatest concert I have ever been to. And since that memorable night I have seen most all the gr8 bands. Back in those days FM radio was considered 'pirate radio' and the station was on a boat in the river. We would wait for hours to hear those Wings tunes come on the radio late at night. It really was an amazing time back in those days. For me, those 3 years from Red Rose Speedway to Venus and Mars culminated into that special night of May 29th. I went from a 12yr old kid, hanging out in "the stilts", perched on the side of a deep creek bed, yes, built up on stilts, with the entry under the flooring.. to a 15 yr old young man, sitting 8th row dead center watching the most epic of concerts.. The good ole days..!!

    I usually dismiss critics because they are nothing but leeches on the Entertainment Industry.
    However, this guys seems genuinely sincere and honest. I wouldn't automatically dismiss his commentary.
    He seems like a decent person.

    A time in American history when the trend among the young (not just the hippies) was to return to the land, to nature, and to raw and unedited music, as well. John and George were doing the same with albums like "All Things Must Pass" and John Lennon's Plastic Ono Band.
    Paul was in fact, living it on a farm in Scotland with sheep, dogs, horses and yes, the occasional rat in the stall! Neil Young and Paul actually lived the life their music was portraying which was, in reality, a rarity!
    I feel that this is by far, one of Paul's best albums! It is his response to John's primal scream, to George's moving on and to Ringo's keeping time with the four of them. This is, in fact, The Beatles post Beatles, a White Album period of sorts with all four still playing off each other through similar sounds and themes. Paul is every bit as strong with this album as he was with that White Album!
    I love it, Paul at his best, just being Paul!

However, I would say, I personally understand/ comprehend/ love this album more & more into infinity, especially since the very cool live versions have been remixed for all to enjoy on youtube. Wow. I can hear Paul saying it: never the same version twice. ☺️😇🥲😋🤩🥸🤓😗😘🥰

    I kinda wonder if David misspoke when he said that " there are lyrics to Bip Bop"? Because the song without any intelligible lyrics is Mumbo.
    Anyway, I still have the original album from that era and it is a fave of mine. Critics back then were always badmouthing Paul and I always hated them for it because I grew up on Paul's music and loved him. And he was a fantastic role model for a young boy.

    I am a huge Beatles fan. McCartney is my favorite Beatle. Wings did some great stuff. But, a Boxed Set of "Wild Life"!? I could never have imagined such a thing. Is this a joke? "The most important re-issue of 'this album' you may ever see!"? Yes, I must agree. It's incredible that there has been any re-issue. It speaks to the incredible quality of the Beatles / McCartney catalogues that such a re-issue could even happen.
    I bought this album the day it arrived in the record stores, without having heard a single song, hoping for another 'RAM'. or 'McCartney'. . I listened to it once. It was the worst album I had ever purchased. I may have managed to listen to it a second or maybe a third time, hoping I had missed something. I had not. Trying to listen to it was a painful experience each and every time.
    In later years, I've taken out the LP periodically, thinking - it can not be as awful as I remember. Wrong! Maybe it is worse. I've never managed a complete re-listening. I picked up the needle part way through each song and moved on to the next. The album is so bad, it's almost a novelty. But it does not even become listenable on that level. Recorded in three days? Yea, it sounds like it.
    I'm holding my original vinyl copy now. "Give Ireland Back to the Irish" is not on it. I do like that song. The fact that it's apparently been added to re-issues speaks volumes about the sad quality of the material on the album, as released.
    I was so put off by Wildlife that I was about done with McCartney after that. Fortunately, he quickly redeemed himself with Red Rose Speedway, a very listenable album. And of course, Band on the Run followed, validating Wings as a worthy project.
    This poor guy "Fricke", struggles mightily to make up some interesting context to put this collection of bad songs into in order to generate some interest. It's embarrassing, but I assume he was paid well.

    • @Trombonology
      @Trombonology 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, it's interesting to hear your opinion -- although I feel entirely different. Is it purely the songs themselves that you dislike or do you not care for the raw production, either? The _McCartney_ album, though undeniably charming, is rawer still, both compositionally and in terms of production. Since you say that Paul is your favorite Beatle, it surprises me that you don't find merit in "Some People Never Know" (my favorite track), "I Am Your Singer" or "Tomorrow." I think all three provide excellent examples of Paul's trademark melodic and harmonic brilliance. Both "Wild Life" and "Dear Friend," though somber, are searingly powerful; "Bip Bop" grooves and even the brief "Bip Bip Link" acoustic piece is an atmospheric addition. "Mumbo" may not be among the most stunning opening tracks of all time, but I like it for its "birth of a band" quality. It seems to me that _Ram_ , which I'll admit is my favorite solo McCartney album, has a similar grittiness here and there, even given the presence, in spots, of an orchestra and studio guitarists Hugh McCracken and David Spinozza. ... It does not seem at all to me that David Fricke is having difficulty in identifying the strengths in and unique charm of _Wild Life_ ; I have the impression, rather, that he appreciates the album on its own terms. I wish you could learn to love it, but it doesn't appear that there's much chance of that. Each person has his/her own tastes.

    • @gordonshumway7239
      @gordonshumway7239 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Trombonology Erstwhile For me, it‘s purely the songs. Nothing connected for me. That‘s just personal taste of course. „Raw“ production is fine for me. I‘m more often put off by over-production. Oh Woman, Oh Why, is a song I like much better than anything on Wild Life, for example.
      I‘m happy for anyone who enjoyed Wild Life. It was just a flop for me, and many other McCartney fans at the time. But again, that’s just personal taste. If the LP clicked for you, obviously, there’s something there that I don’t see. And I guess we agree that the body of McCartney’s work is outstanding, whatever favorites one person or another might have ...

  • @miguelmontano637
    @miguelmontano637 5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Good album, but not his best. I think Paul wanted to record the album without spending too much time in the studio (as Bob Dylan), and he didn't write as a Beatle so i think it was a challenge for Paul, writing, production, etc. This deluxe edition is amazing, and i hope London town and back to the eg in 2019.

    I remember getting this album and being deeply disappointed in "Wings Wildlife", I loved the wonderful home-spun "McCartney" album and the creative and inventive joy of "Ram", and couldn't wait for this one. But "Wildlife" was a major drop-off for me. I never made a distinction between Paul-solo or Paul-Wings. It was always really Paul either way for the most part and this first band attempt fell short. Even the packaging seemed cheap and slapped together without much care. It's on the bottom of my list of McCartney albums and re=packaging it doesn't change what's between the grooves

    I guess the Plastic Ono Band doesn’t count as a brand new band. Okay.

    Many Paul fans including myself are disappointed with the audio content in this set, as the original album itself is terrible and the supplementary material is lackluster. Sure the box is handsome, but if the music isn’t worthy of deluxe treatment, the effort is a failure in my opinion. Fricke is wonderful, and I’d love to read the book here.

      Mark Iskowitz Most people who wrote this off listened to it twice, max. Have you actually spent time with it? It’s a runaway success, no failure whatsoever. It’s intent was to be what Get Back originally was intended to be: a raw, spontaneous, casual, quickly recorded album. It’s one of his top ten or even five post-Beatles albums, to me! I highly recommend revisiting it, and agree with Fricke that it’s easily the most misunderstood album in his canon. Have a great day!

      +Jim McCracken Surprisingly, mainly for the over-all superb packaging and extras. The actual album is still the same, though- it's just o.k.

    whatever the album is - this film here is a commercial pretending to be a review, of course we need a facsimile and more rubbish in carton boxes to make the planet 'clean', is this what a vegetarian should do ?
