    Great video. It's hard reading through the comments left by haters. Off roading is a sport people. How will we continue this sport with the next generations if we are hating on every aspect of their experience? These people are getting out and having fun in their rigs and learning how to do it right. Isn't that what off roading is all about? Not what you drive or where you drive it, it's about getting out and having fun. Anywhere anytime.

      +Vance Hamilton That's the problem with TH-cam. Many of the people who are watching it for fun aren't bothering to leave a comment. Those who comment more tend to be full of hate and need to push that on others. Wouldn't worry too much about the trolls.

    Great video! I just bought my first jeep (unlimited rubicon) and was looking for something like this that was instructional and helped demonstrate the differences of the different offroad settings. And ,for the people that were hating on the notations and explanations, if you already know what you're doing out there, then why are you watching an instructional video? Some of us are new to this sport and are still trying to get our feet wet without breaking our daily driver. thanks and I'll be watching more.

    For the vast majority of people new to off roading the best anti-stuck device is a friend with their 4wd. It's better to just get out there and have fun gaining experience and good memories with friends than blowing a lot of cash on mods you might not even need. You don't want to spend thousands on mods you'll never use when a pair of trutracks & a set off 33" Duratracs would have done the trick.

    Whenever you are wheeling, you really should have a winch and an anchor or PRT. Personally I have lockers, winch, PRT, 4 Tred recovery tracks and a 45" Hi lift jack as well as shackles a shovel and a winch extension strap and snatch strap. It always pays to have a backup. I once drove down a steep hill that had only one exit, at the top of the hill. I wore out a set of new tires getting out because my only recovery tool was a hand winch with 6 feet of cable. I had to winch 90 feet up that damn hill. When I got home 9 hours later I had 4 leaches on my legs and shoes full of my own blood. The adventure is out there go prepared!

    Nice to see how some of these features make a huge difference. I like the wranglers but I have always been a Cherokee fan. With a lift, lockers, and customized bumper made of heavy steel with a winch, I will take that any day! Especially one that has the 4.0L, they offer spectacular off roading capabilities and drive real nice on pavement, also plenty of room in the back with seats down to sleep or fondle the old lady lol..

    Nice job with the video and good comparison of a locked Rubicon with the swaybar disconnected vs the stocker without. I find the JK with a 2 1/2 inch lift far more competent then my CJ7 lifted 4" and locked on both ends was.

    I can't wait to lift my 04 Rubicon. I'm considering a zone offroad 4" system with their 1.25 body lift to do a slight belly up with a new skid. Idk yet. Something I've been throwing around

    • @Tomthelocksmith
      @Tomthelocksmith 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dwayne Henning Why bother with the body lift/tummy tuck? In a TJ, your clearance issue will be your diff cases long before high centering. Unless you have an unlimited... Spend the money saved on a better suspension lift kit that has detachable front sway bar links and adjustable control arms.

    • @kevinrichardson8421
      @kevinrichardson8421 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Tommy Hoffmann the diffs will only be an issue if you are trying to clear something like a bolder that is narrower than your axle. Most people who get tummy tucks are more concerned about being able to clear drop offs going up and down a near vertical wall. In those cases the wheels will never allow your diff to hit the edge of the drop but you can still get high centered in the middle.

    The 3rd jeep (Rubicon Unlimited) is equipped with Brake Lock Differential right? Do you guys think that activating the lockers were completely necessary? I feel like if he got a running star, the BLD would have been more than enough.

    • @2010svtraptor
      @2010svtraptor  8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Steven Lazar Everyone did air down the tires to about 20psi that day. I'm sure your right if we would have aired down more some of the obstacles would have been even easier. I know it doesn't show on camera but that hill was actually steep and a little wet. The other Jeeps belonged to the instructors and they were just trying to demonstrate different ways of doing it. Personally i paid for a Rubicon so i wanted to used all the gadgets my Jeep had lol.

    I think on a surface that is slippery on both sides, locking differentials or brake lock differentials will not make a big difference. In surfaces where there is traction on one side of the vehicle is when the lockers would help tremendously.

    Flooring it right at the top and rolling backwards while spinning is a prefect way to snap axle shafts too.

    • @l337pwnage
      @l337pwnage 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Kevin V Theoretically, yes, but I've never seen an vehicle w/o lockers break an axle. I'm sure it can happen, it's just really rare. With an open diff some of the shock gets absorbed by the other axle so it makes breaking an axle much harder.

    I love taking my 4runner on sand and snow going up soft hills or just running flat out. But actual hard off-roading through rocks, mud and water and taking 30 minutes to move 10 feet. I don't know how you guys find that exciting. Not to mention it destroys the vehicle. I guess it's not for everyone. Props to those who find it exciting.

      +David Stewart There is something about the challenge of getting your vehicle through some big technical beast of a trail. Desert running is fun, but so is driving over rocks the size of small cars and having a rig that can do it. :D

  • @jayjoy6810
    @jayjoy6810 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I understand the need for lockers I have rarely ran into a Situation where I needed anything over 4 low and BLD. Most of the trails I have been on recommend it but I am a rebel haha. Lockers surely have their place, and I plan on getting some sooner or later. I live in Cali San diego area so I go to big bear hit trails there holcomb creek, gold mountain. and a few others. I haven't completed all of John bull yet due to day light issue and not wanting to run a trail I never been on in the dark (which is rated one of the hardest on the mountain) Coral Canyon and a few other spots. I will say good video though it will help folks for sure!

    Hello, I am about to purchase my first jeep (unlimited) and I been hearing a lot about lockers. What are they? Do they come with a new 2015 jeep? If they don't what does it cost to get them and install them? Thank you and nice video!

    • @rockymountboy
      @rockymountboy 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      zartan z "Lockers" are "differential lockers" and lock the left and right sides together so the entire axle, and thus the wheels on both sides, spins at the same speed. If you have lockers front & rear, it truly becomes Four Wheel drive. Lockers are GREAT for dry rocky terrain and can pull you up some really steep inclines, but it is easy to spin right off the trail in slippery mud if you don't know what you are doing. Rubicons come with lockers, and I believe they are optional in other models. Price it out on the Jeep site.

  • @joracer1

      inkman234 I remember reading somewhere that all JK's have the bld but for a situation like this one having the front and rear lockers enabled made a big difference. You didn't see it on the video but those other 2 jeeps had many more attempts on that obstacle. I had to cut it out to make the video shorter. My Jeep climbed over it right away with the lockers.

    not talking crap right now just stating that early.
    but ive went up much harder inclines and trails than that with just volkswagon beetle with posi track rear ends
    2 wd and literally up i went.
    they used to make buggies out of em.
    i've been down far far more difficult areas in my jeep than this in just 2wd.

      +Bradley Walters I watched a stock Bronco II drive through a hole that 1/2 tons on 35's took turns ramming into and pulling each other out of. This hole had a 90 degree corner in it so the "hold my beer" and "git 'r' dun" wasn't working for them.

    Why would anyone go to a school to learn off-roading?

    • @2010svtraptor
      @2010svtraptor  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      rdm33rd I have been offroading for years with my previous vehicles. But there are always people out there that have more experience than you so why not improve your skills. Plus where i live there is no legal offroading anywhere nearby so going to these places give me a chance to have some fun.

    • @logicreigns3478
      @logicreigns3478 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      All of roading 101 should be done with no lockers whether you have them or not. Otherwise the students are not really learning to exploit traction control, ABD and 4wh and 4wl, or in cases of lots of non-rubicons, limited slip diffs.

    • @dannytran5642
