I always imagine who previously owned some of the vintage and antique items at thrift stores I go to. I have seen very old family photographs and wonder how they ended up in the thrift store. If items could talk, I’m sure they would have interesting stories to tell.
Yes! All those stories that lie behind each item! Who did the embroidery? Who used the teapot and cups? What happened to the couple in the wedding picture? I love thinking about things like that too.

I believe Vintage is anything over 30 years old, although; I have been told that anything over 20 years old would be considered Vintage. I don't collect Vintage items, my opinion relates to my 1955 Chevy Pickup Truck 🇺🇲🇺🇲😍😍🤩🤩! For SURE, that IS VINTAGE 🤣🤣🤣🤣. TYFS!!

Yay! Someone else has heard of a "Gibson Girl!" I think that image of womanhood was so pretty, back in the early 1900s. There was a kind of gentleness and tranquility about the way they were presented. I'm not sure we could ever recapture that.

@@debbiesittard7979 Exactly! Those women weren't snobbish or prudish or anything like that. They were just quiet and serene... I'm not sure what the right words are... But my grandmother really understood it too!
@@kesmarn Yes! I believe they were of a quiet spirit. And actually because of their quiet lady like demeanor they actually commanded attention. They were smart, innovative but gentle. Not brutish or loud or trying to compete with men. They were self confident but not arrogant. And most definitely none were confused about what sex they were. For as long as I can remember I have felt like I belonged in that era. We know GOD makes no mistakes so I’m where I’m supposed to be here today. But I tell ya, I cannot identify with these people today. I think I’m what some call an “ old soul,” Can you just imagine if the ladies who lived during this grand ole time could see things today? 🙄 One of the reasons I just love Tessie and her videos is that although she is far removed from that generation she’s able to identify with it very well. Femininity has just flew the coop… unless it’s with men! Well that’s a whole other book! I better stop right here.😂🤦🏻♀️
@@debbiesittard7979 Yes, I had a good friend who died of breast cancer about 15 years ago. She had that quiet spirit, although she also had a very sweet, lively sense of humor. Interestingly, she worked as one of the early women who wrote computer code -- in a field where she was often the only woman on a team of men. The wonderful thing was that men really loved working with her. She was so calm and not at all inclined to indulge in drama -- probably due in part to the fact that she was in a stable marriage. She never complained to me that the men were harassing her or trying to make her life at work miserable. I wish she were still here today because I think she had some really valuable qualities that she could teach many 21st century women! 🙂 She would probably be embarrassed to read that, but I think it's true!

Tessie you may can watch a video on repairing old baskets and weave some straw into the parts that may have a hole. It will look good after some paint on it. You did get some nice jars for a very good price. I saw some big green plants in the garden already. It's already looking good. I've run into some problems on some of my plants and containers so I've got to research more on how deep some of my plants need for roots like radish ect. Enjoyed Thrifty Thursday as usual and I'll type at you soon my sisterfriend 👍💙🤗🌱🍅🙏

I love the plaid top jelly jars. My widowed mother-in-law uses this size for when I make jams, pickled beets, etc. I was leery at first, but they seal just fine!

I swear, I once owned that big basket. I think I sold it at a garage sale ages ago. That would be quite the trip, if it came from Minnesota. The one I had was in almost perfect condition and the reason I got rid of it was because I had a cat that insisted on scratching on it, no matter how may scratching posts I had. I didn't want it to be ruined by a cat so sold it to someone that could enjoy it.

That is an antique basket. The color is dyed before woven. It has just faded over time. I love jars w lids.
My parents had some baskets like that too, and I was told the colored strips were those colors before they were woven into the basket. They would be over 70 years old at this point!

I love your Thrift store. Here's a little story you might find funny and know why so many of us envy your thrift store. Since I have a turquoise-little amount of pink vintage kitchen, I was picking up some turquoise dishes at OUT thrift store. They had coffee cups, bowls and plates with the same pattern as mine, which I got at Dollar Tree. I had broken a bowl of mine, picked up a bowl and the price was $2.00!! I paid $1.00 for mine. Checked the cups and plates and ALL were $2.00! I paid $1.00 each for mine at Dollar Tree!! I don't understand how they can do that! Have you EVER seen that? 😊😊😊😊😪😪

@@owen4248 Many of my relatives and a couple friends were laughing. It's actually a St. Vincent De Paul Thrift shop. We have a GOODWILL thrift shop with much better prices. Also a few privately owned thrift stores but they are more upscale. Really our Goodwill is the best. I didn't know whether to keep laughing, cry or get angry. Im sure many have seen those turquoise dishes at Dollar Tree. They have had them 2 years most of the time. Next time, Im taking a picture with my phone. I was too shocked to think of it at the time.

Love the basket! Without the top it looked like a big Easter basket that the Easter bunny would carry all his goodies in! The appliqué look like it was on the material for a long time! It looks even more vintage with the corners peeling off! Blessings❣️❣️

What a nice basket and jars are always welcome :) I'm starting to get worried about the jars that I have.. Would it be enough LOL. My pear tree seems to be developing a lot of pears, much more than the other years. So I guess I have to 'weck' them :) We started this season a bit cold, but now it for a few weeks nice weather (sunny but quite some showers) something that my granddad would call 'cabbage weather'. Cabbage doesn't mind if the weather is a bit too wet (like other veggies) as long as there is a bit of sun. I hope that it would be a bit more dryer after monday, we are now in what we called 'the ice saints' and sunday is the last day. After these days it is safe to plant beans (frost) and I don't want them to rot because of the rain.

Oh Tessie, i love that jelly cookbook you found! And i love that basket with the lid! I have a lot of baskets myself and i fix a lot of them using hot glue to hold weak spots or loose weaves and it works perfectly! One things for sure i cant throw any basket away no matter how bad of shape , i always find a use for hem. Nice haul today! Be blessed ❤!

Tessie, have you and Kenny ever seen the old Andy Griffith Show episode that involved paying Mayberry property taxes with confederate money? If you get a chance to watch a rerun of it, it's pretty cute.
I love the way The Girls all lined up near the chicken yard fence in a neat row to listen to you talk. Like a very well-behaved bunch of Brownie (perfect color for Tessie) Scouts! They're such a sweet bunch.
Your iron-on image looks so pretty. As I mentioned to another commenter, that certain style that women had back then (1917) was so unique. It would be hard to duplicate today, I think. I have to admit, though, that if 1992 is considered "vintage," I'm pretty sure I would qualify to be included in the next traveling King Tut exhibit as one of the "antiquities."

FYI- Some collectors use the timeframe of 20 years as "Vintage" and others use 30 years. So, the iron on is definitely considered vintage.
I’ve only been to one thrift store since we moved to Missouri. It wasn’t clean at all. I am going to have to explore the area for others. I will miss the MCC thrift store where I used to live. I’m still unpacking and will be donating more stuff that doesn’t fit in our new to us home.

Tessie, sometimes with an iron on you have to wash and dry the fabric to get the sizing out of the fabric before the iron on will stick. I have ruined quite a few because I didn’t wash and dry the fabric first.
Yes ! And don't add fabric softener The chemicals will interfere!
