I get my thrift store fix vicariously through the Thrifty Thursday videos.
That big basket is great for your dolls!! If you hang a thin curtain rod or a long dowel across 2or3 large cup hooks, you could poke holes in the middle of your ribbon spools and hang them that way! Then when you want a certain ribbon, just roll it out and cut the length you want! Saves a lot of space! Put a straight pin in the end of the ribbons to keep them from unrolling! Just a thought! Yes, yes you did raid Grandmas attic and I love seeing what you got!!! The cookbook, jars, and the pot holders, oh and that amazing basket are my favorites. My son has those long matches in a glass jar on his fireplace mantle, he found the jar at a thrift store.

@@pr9764 Today has been a sort of "recovery day" after a long one yesterday. That's the way it always seems to go... One hour of needing to stay focused and get something(s) accomplished results in needing two hours of rest to get back on track again!
I don't want to invade anyone's privacy, but I'm wondering whether anyone has heard from "Sweet Pea" (Pam) recently. I don't recall seeing a comment from her today (or yesterday either?) and I'm praying that all's well with her and her family.

What I LOVE about the thrift store you go to. is how CLEAN the place is and how neat and tidy the books are.😃
A friend and I will have dropping off boxes of items at the hospice thrift store. Never go in the store simply because there is nothing I need.
Also like the different little free library organization sites in town where I can put extra copies of books I do not need, and folks can get a free book.
We have a senior center store I donate to, and it helps pay for additional activities. It is crazy the stuff you can find there!!
I can smell that book! I know exactly what you were talking about! You might want to try a nice vase for those matches? My thrift day is Tuesday I don’t go every Tuesday but I spent $36 last week. I actually bought myself a pair of shorts I didn’t have any don’t really feel comfortable in shorts, like not modest. But I’m just around my Homestead and nobody can see me so I guess it’s OK. I dehydrated strawberries today for the winter and I froze blackberries and apricots on the sheet tray and then I put it into those square containers for the freezer as long as the power doesn’t go out, I should be set for the winter.!❄️

So many treasures, Tessie! And -- who knows why... -- I am *really* into nostalgia these days. I just love looking through vintage cookbooks (that Betty Crocker one is a jewel!), magazines, furniture, kitchen dishes, pans, etc. As you said -- even the *smells* of many of these items can bring back a flood of memories!
I remember that "old book smell" too, from our library when I was a kid. In my case, it was combined with the fragrance of the floor wax that they used in our public library. I can still remember it! It's a pleasant memory because I connect it with carrying an armful of books home, knowing that I would have a whole new bunch of stories to keep me entertained (especially in the summer time) until my family's next library run. (Hey... no computers back then!... Just me in a lawn chair under a tree! 😀 )
That basket looked flawless to me, Tessie! What a bargain for $3! It was in beautiful condition.
But finding that your rubber ring seals actually worked? That was golden. I imagine there are folks out there who wouldn't understand why that moment was so exciting, but trust me, those of us who have canning in our history totally get it! Discovering that vintage item A really does go along with vintage item B is wonderful! (Especially when some supply items are hard to find and expensive!)
All and all, a wonderful haul, dear Tessie! I hope you enjoy every item because you've more than earned them! 🙂

@@pr9764 I think you're right, Andrea! Even when I look through cook books, it seems as though the meals were simpler "back then", with fewer complex recipes that tended to use 10 different spices! I saw a post recently from a man who had just been released from the hospital. To many peoples' surprise, he was *happy* with the food he'd gotten while he was there. "I forgot what actual food tasted like," was his comment. It seems that his food tray contained things like chicken (no gravy, no sauces), potatoes, vegetables. Again no added ingredients. And he liked that! 😀

@@pr9764 That is a great point, dear sister! I believe there are instances in which we tended to "throw the baby out with the bath water," no? In the effort to fast-forward into the future, we sacrificed some elements of the past that were worth keeping!
When I was younger, I wanted to make sure that I didn't "ossify" into one of those older people who lived entirely in the past. But now I think it is possible to mature without doing that! We can cherish the best of the past, while appreciating the best of the 21st century. Or at least I hope so! 😀

I’m pretty sure I bought cherries in those jars when they were on the shelves, because as soon as you picked it up I said that’s a cherry jar. If I scrounged through some of my older junk they just might be in it. I tend to keep unique jars.

Great thrift store finds.
I like having some stuff but, don’t like clutter and with Bruce’s tools and stuff in the garage I don’t have tuns of room to have tuns of stuff.
I have to use racks in my laundry room which is off kitchen for extra food and pots and pans and food processor and blender besides the few cupboards we have which I use for casserole dishes and dishes we eat off.
In garage I have a few cupboards for cleaning stuff and a few Tupperware.

I have a basket my grandfather made before my mother who would be 95 was born. It was one of the things he did to rest his mind when he got home from the coal mines after dinner. Even when my grandparents were resting they were working.
I love that! Basket weaving to relax, God bless him! And the basket still exists! That generation was like that. When women sat down, they tended to knit, crochet, embroider or mend. They never had "idle hands."
@kesmarn they were a different breed back then, hands always busy. He died when I was 3, and mom was the second youngest out of 8. He cut all the branches himself and sat by the coal stove in the kitchen while my grandmother cleaned up after dinner listening to the big radio and the kids finished their chores.

Omg Tessie, I have the exact Betty Crockers Cook Book from 1961! It's got the best recipes and it's the cookbook we used in Junior High when i took cooking classes! It's my most cherished cookbook!❤

I have a copy of that Betty Crocker's cookbook -- in much worse shape than yours! I hold it together with packing tape and still have loose pages. I had it out yesterday looking for ideas.
