How can you determine if you've found diamond rough? I buy bags of rough stone and have had several ring up on my diamond tester but this is diamond rough. Several of them have the " steps" and " plains " of rough diamond but are not octahedral and a few are octahedral. Some are actually flat or " sheets ". Many have a " reflective" quality, some are clear.
diamonds have high thermal conductivity. The fog draws heat from the stone and evaporates which cools the stone making it even harder to draw heat from it. If it is not a diamond it drags out tremendously. It's a very cool trick!
What would be the reason for spending so much money on real thing if no one can tell the difference between real diamond and lets say Moissanite without special tools? Buy huge stone and tell everyone it's a big diamond, no one will tell the difference.
Roman O because they have real value. What if your grandpa gave you a fake diamond worth nothing vs a real diamond worth a lot. Not only will it have sentimental value but it will have real value.
I have diamond, moissanite and CZ jewelry. I'm not sure why people say you can't tell them apart; if you put them side by side it is very obvious which one is which. There is much more rainbow sparkle going on in the moissanite and it has a yellowy/green hue, while a diamond is more of a clear sparkle. A cz has a a blueish undertone and tends to be less sparkly than a diamond. And the breath method is not really accurate. My moissanite clears up in less then a second, but my diamond takes a few seconds. CZ will remain foggy for several seconds.
Alexander Robinson diamonds are intrinsically worthless, it’s all jewelry store markups. They aren’t even that rare, pay 15k for a solitaire ring at Jared’s and you’ll get just a couple hundred bucks back trying to sell it to any jeweler or pawn shop.
alex walker - It's not about how rare they are. Diamonds sparkle like nothing else. Also, it took 1-3.3 billion years to form at high temperature and pressure approx 115 miles deep. Additionally - it takes approx 12 hours to cut a 1 carat diamond - and it's done by people. Some diamonds require days or weeks to cut. Plus someone has to make the ring too. Not even talking about the mining process. There is some serious work behind a diamond jewelry.
thank you, it is sometimes easy to trick a customer but it is hard to trick a merchant, so customers have to bet on the merchant instead of trying things by themselves. Also sometimes it is hard for an expert to find out whether a piece is fake unless it is used for awhile; thus, putting trust on the seller is more important than putting confidence on one ability when it comes to rarely sold products like jewelry of all kind and watches and some types of cars.
The letter test you were talking about where you should not be able to see the letters.. is that only for round cut diamonds or will that work for all cuts?
*It works for all cuts...through a diamond you simply can't make-out what fine-print says at all, nor what letters arethere* *The refractory aspects in a real diamond keep 'bouncing' the light inside them off the facets in the gem before the light escapes to the surface...even a 'raw' gem will do that*
I have a “diamond” but I’m not actually sure if it’s real. Its a whole bunch of small fine diamonds on a ring so it’s hard to tell. I looked really close and it looks like they have sharp edges.
If they look absolutely perfect you're going to probably need to consult a professional. One way to tell is, if you see any little black dots in the diamonds, then you know that they're real (black dots are bits of carbon left over from the coal). That's one very easy way to tell, but obviously, as I said, it isn't absolutely fool-proof b/c high-quality diamonds can have internal flaws that aren't visible to the naked eye, or they could be very slight flaws, where they are only visible to a trained eye when using a loop. It's possible that the ring certainly was made using very high quality VVS, VS, SI diamonds, but, you might be able to tell if you have a loop (or a magnifying glass). It's even possible that they're flawless, though doubtful if it isn't a very high quality piece of jewelry. Either way, a professional can easily tell.
my neighbor bought a jewlery box from a garage (junk) sale, there is one peace that has about a thumb size stone in it and it fogs up to about 2-3 seconds, the other 30 or so 1 carrat size stones do not fog up at all... is that good news or bad news in his case?
Well size of diamonds does not matter, they all remove heat instanously. The diamond that lasts for 2-3 second might be a real diamond but the other one is most likely a fake. I can't say it's 100 percent accurate though so the best way to tell if a diamond is real or fake is by using a diamond tester which you can borrow at a jewlery store.

I will never understand why someone would pay so much for say a wedding ring or jewellery, when you can get some shiny pretty faux diamond for cheaper? Or why a diamond at all? Why not just get a quartz or amethyst or some semi-precious stone that still looks nice but costs 20$ ooo like septarian or dragon jasper blood-stone If i ever paid big money for a gem it would be black opal :D actually now that i think about it a diamond is probably the last thing i'd pick.
It's a long story, I would try to explain it but it goes in to Mystical, Esoteric and Occultic topic that requires a long back story on the history of were these minerals come from, how long they take to form and requires a spitual outlook on reality itself. Yaa that deep. A diamond takes BILLIONS of years to be made, and Gold along with other Noble Metals are born from Literally Dying Stars. Both of those prophecies are much older and grand than a single human Lifetime so Yaa it does take a kind of mind that understands both Science and spiritually along with the intangible nature of it all. It's the intangible nature of magic that the stones have that make Woman lose their minds the most when it comes to Jewelry. Your nature is just hardwired to view less Physical things and more emotional things the same reason why woman are drawn to Drugs, Music and the Arts More than men. Something about Jewelry doesn't speak straight to your conscience mind, it more reaches towards your Subconscious, or intuition. Whatever it is that we have but woman have more access too that allows us to sense more of the world beyond what we can actually see, hear, touch or smell. Keep in mind your body generates Heat, Your heart beat is carried throughout your whole body, and light reflects all around you Gold, and diamonds for example carry and absorb everything about you on to them when you wear them. This is the original purpose of Jewelry, and why the royalty wanted it all for themselves throughout all of time. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!
I'm here to learn if the diamond my godfather gave me is real.. I'm not a fan of jewelries but I want to know when to wear them because every people who gave me jewelry I'll treasure them.. I'm glad to say my grandma's gift(a pair of earrings) is still here with me.. She gave it to me in 2011 in my 6th grade graduation
You can take it to a jeweler and I’ll test it for you. No problem. Just know that a lot of them at least that I’ve seen use cheaper testers so get a second third fourth and fifth opinion.

She tested them all real. said "its only worth gold value" same for 14 k.ring with a 7c black sapphire $150 for gold value only. She though i was i be stupid and let her have the gens for free ! Don't sell cheap. Make your gold and stones rare and hard to buy second hand. Duck these ripp off merchants
If I was going to sell my jewelry I would not go through a dealer
After reading some of these comments, I have some advice for the LADIES, put that ring up to your mouth and breath. If it's fake so is he.
it's a fugazy...
thank you very much
I ilke this . Every body think you are lininy
No lie just looking that CZ looks great 👍 people so worried about fake or real as long as your not over paying on this stuff either one is good !
Excellent watch!
Even google says
i did the breath test
Hopefully you can get the smell out of the diamond.
@@chugginbeers 😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks, I always wanted to know!!
I found a ring outside and it was shimmering so much so I picked it up. I think it's a diamond ring..
I get that false advertisement is wrong and if your paying for a diamond you should get a real diamond, but if the fakes look just as pretty why pay for the label?
None of these will work on my moissanite.
THANKS FOR THE UPLOAD!!!
does these methods works with sapphire as well?
but you bay it on a jewell...
That ring going b stinky as shit
Nice Rolex Submariner!!
Turtle should be called not a surefire way to ID a diamond
