Glad I found this. I have a bunch of Lionel track to clean up. I was debating using Evaporust. Now I know what to expect. Thanks for posting.

This stuff is the bomb.......I tried the vinegar and it worked........ok. My wife didn't care for the stench that comes along with it though, but the evapo-rust is amazing......little to no odor and reusable......my track turned out amazing and with no elbow grease.......definitely worth the money in my opinion.

I've used it on a bunch of stuff since this video. It's a fantastic product.

I'll give this a try for my really difficult projects I reckon but Its fine to use sand paper, in fact the following tip comes from the Lionel's own support page "Rust can be removed with sandpaper, non-metallic kitchen scouring pads work well too, but never use steel wool on track as small particles tend to stick to the rails".

I've heard different things about it removing coatings, but I guess if they're already rusted, it doesn't matter. For me, the thing is this is basically no work. Drop it in, soak it, wipe it.

I agree. I have been reclaiming some old standard gauge tracks. I tried vinegar which works reasonably well but Evaporust is the best! It is absolutely worth the investment.

Yeah. I tried the vinegar thing too. It's definitely not as good. Thanks for watching!

I cannot tell if the paint on the ties was removed. I saw a video with vinegar on Lionel standard gauge track, and it worked well with removing rust, BUT it took off the black paint on the ties. Wondering if Evaporust would do the same on the ties.

The paint was probably already removed, but I don't THINK it would remove the paint.

    Basically highly concentrated vinegar

I don't think it is...although it would be an interesting comparison.
