+Dirt Bike Channel I got to say my friends have both and love them but they all say a 2 strok will kill a new rider like myself and I think you missed something what bike is for a new ride for new people to get? So what all do you guys think what should a new rider like me I've been riding for like. The past 6-8 months and I can pop wheels but I'm fixing to go buy a new bike what is safer?
Don't know why all the 4 stroke people are getting butt hurt, I'm a 4 stroke guy and I love 2 strokes two. In fact I fully agree with what the video said with the comparison.
Spuzva Rahil two strokes are a little easier and cheaper to take care of other than the gas part and making sure u don’t get anything in it , but it’s all preference on what you want just don’t buy anything to big of a cc you can also sell and move up once/if you ever want more power .
@@daxashlock8109 Not sure cheaper really applies to either. 2 strokes require more maintenance but the parts are generally cheaper and rebuilding the top end doesn't require a big effort...it just had to be done a lot more often. 4 strokes don't require top end replacement nowhere near as often but when you have to do it, the parts are more expensive and the labor is longer. In the end, it is probably a wash.
I've been riding dirt bikes for 35 years and lived through the annoying 2-stroke era, the rise of the hot 4-stroke trend, and now the revival of the 2-stroke. To be up-front, I'm a 2-stroke guy and always will be. 2-strokes were never going to fade into oblivion. They are simply too good for that. It was inevitable people would see the light and the 2-stroke would make a come back. Even though Kyle Brotherson has been riding for only 9 or 10 year, his analysis of the 2-strokes and 4-strokes are absolutely spot-on! 4-stroke folks get butt hurt because they don't like hearing the truth that's not in their favor. Truth is, both are awesome! One of the most fun bikes I have ever ridden was a YZF 250. But you can't argue with results. I like riding my bike more than working on it, and not spending gobs of money to keep it running like it should. 2-strokes are bar-none a better enduro bike. Take a look at the World Enduro results. I had an 09 KTM 300 XC, raced it in the Idaho City race in 09, rode it for a total of 7 seasons . . . YES, that's SEVEN seasons . . . and never had to rebuild the motor. And I rode that bike hard! Now that's longevity! That's quality! That's a 2-stroke!!
7 seasons could be 10 hours in total- tell us how many working hours have your bike done in total without engine rebuild??! dont know any dirt or enduro that does more than 300 hours without rebuild
After graduating from high school I got a job and bought myself a 1979 Yamaha DT-250 2 stroke Enduro. Wish they'd bring em back. I loved that 2-stroke scream. Bulletproof!
When I'm having a really great day just chilling out, I like to ride my 4 stroke but when I get angry and want to let out some steam I get on the 2-stroke, I love both of my bikes!!!
I have moved to 2 stroke in the past month, and I completely agree with these vids. im not sure witch I like better yet but its clear that 2 stroke does make a lot more top end power but bottom end depends on what size you have.
I ride a cr480. 4 stroke guys hear me coming a mile away lol! But I wouldn't exactly call that black thing on the end of my pipe a silencer, either. Packing blew out of it probably in the early 90's.
EreksonJ Put in new packing, it'll make more power. Like you need more power with a CR480, right! Not positive but I think Pro Circuit and FMF still sell the older CR silencers. That WILL make more power. On my old open 2 strokes I used to buy the unpainted 'works' CR and KX pipes and do some precision cuts and reweld 'em to fit mine (Husky's/Maico's, etc.)
The technical reason the thumper is "louder" is that it is a lower frequency (combustion 1/2 as often), so it bleeds off less energy per distance traveled. Same reason submarines use ultra-low frequency for communications- it can travel through a higher viscosity media (water) than high frequency. I've heard, but never tested, that a 2 stroke and 4 stroke have extremely similar dB right at the exhaust tip. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
I totally agree. seems like you can hear the thump echo thru the forest for miles. the wing ding ding ding seems to get soaked up in the trees. both cases, depends on stock or aftermarket and baffles used...and if airbox and jetting used. mod bike can be 2x or more than stock db levels a.k.a. "uncorked"
I get way more noise complaints on my two stroke when I am riding on the edge of the forest etc, once i get inside it i dont get any complaints on my way home. Meanwhile the thumper I had would get complaints all the time and people would be waiting on the bottom of my hill etc haha.
🤓Not sure why anybody is sad on either side... "Simply pick the tool that works for your personal style" 🔧 👉🏽If its about maintenance, same goes, get what works for your budget! Guys n' Gals, we should celebrate because we all ride on 2 murtherfukin wheels and thats what I call freedom. 🤙🏽All in all great content!
Talking about sound. It's a fact that same power sound waves will travel further when you lower the frequency. Higher frequency waves tend to be better absorbed by the environment. So it makes perfect sense that 4 stroke sound (lower pitch) will travel futher than a 2 stroke (higher pitch) :)
I love both 2 strokes and 4 strokes. My last bike was a 2011 ktm 250 xc and my current bike is a 2014 husky fc250. I ride a lot of technical single track and my husky flames out more than i would like. The solution is a Rekulse Clutch. All the guys in Endurocross are running 250f and 350f Including Johny walker. My next bike is a 2015 Husky te300 though.
I rode 2 strokes most of my life I started riding and got my own dirt bike I. 1980 and I loved 2 Stokes. 4 stroke bikes we're like boat anchor's. I though it was a joke that someone thought a 4 stroke could compete with a 2 stroke. Many years later, about 2006 I rode my first one it was a yz450f and holy crap compairing that to my 2001 or 2002 rm 250 there was no comparison. 4 strokes kill 2 strokes at everything. I was completely blown away on how much better it did in every aspect of motocross. Hitting the bumps under exceleration was night and day and clearing jumps, the big thing was how much effort it took it was easy in the 4 stroke. I was concerned about maintenance, but after owning a 4 stroke sometime I've discovered that unless the engine blows up the maintenance isn't really a issue. The expenses of a blown 4 stroke do suck, but for all the bennefits it's worth it. Now with electronic fuel injection there is no way a 2 stroke can compete, except maybe in single track and even in that it will require more effort hence you will tier more. New riders probably will benefit from experience on a 2 stroke because throttle control is in my opinion the most important part of my riding. With throttle control the amount of power you have can only improve your ability to hit different difficult types of riding, so with more power the easier it is to ride after learning throttle control. Thanks for the video.
Depends on where and how you like to ride. I like to cruise around slow and check out everything. I'm also teaching my son how to ride. Our last trip the average speed was about 11mph. One thing my old 2 stroke didn't like was loafing around slow all day. It was also much more sensitive to altitude changes. My 4 stroke doesn't care. I can idle around all day. At any altitude. Only thing i maintain on it as far as the engine is just valve adjustments and oil changes. Not really that complicated. If i was riding fast I'd get another 2 stroke.
I agree with the noise . I have a YZ250 and a yz426f and the 250 sounds louder up close but when I’m in the forest people hear the yz426f way more . The 2 stroke isn’t to loud
i like 2 strokes better but it doesnt matter what bike you have, yeah 4 strokes are more expensive to fix and feel heavier but in the end its not the bike its the person riding. i have a 94 kx 125 frame with a 89 kdx 200 engine in the 125 frame. the suspension is softened for easier trail riding and hopping logs. ive had the bike 15 years with riding almost every other day in the past two years and have only cleaned the air filter and washed my bike frequently to keep it in good shape. i am just now thinking about replacing the piston after 15 years. i love the bike and never had any problems with it and it was jeff fredette's pratice enduro bike in the past.
This was a fantastic video! +Dirt Bike Channel Best video I have seen in a while, you were so honest, not just opinionated like pretty much everyone. You saw all the points in everything and explained them so well no one was able to correct you. First video I have seen of you and not going to be my last. Subscribed and look forward to your up coming videos :)
+Ben Madsen Funny you should mention that because I have had many, many people try to correct me on these :) This was a 6 part series, if you haven't seen the rest. I have 100 or more videos published here.
Finally some useful information :) Lately there have been more information about 2 strokes then 4 strokes with endless bragging about how wonderful 2 strokes are making it sound like a 250 / 300 2T have much more power at low and high rpm then a even a 500 4T... Many even spread misinformation about 4 stoke that they need valve adjustment every ride and oil change about 10 time more often then in reality. I tested a 2017 KTM 300 2 stroke and found it lacking in power compared to my old WR450 specially at low rpm but also even when it was in middle of the power band. I ended up bying a 2019 KTM 500 EXC-f instead and that have much much more power then the 300 2T at all rev ranges but specially at low rpm... I like the way power comes more predictable and controllable on the 500 then the 300 2T but both was fun to ride :) One big pluss for the 300 was absolutely no vibrations. I would say the 500 EXC-f is to much bike for most people and most types of riding. But for me who only do short rides for fun the massive low end grunt and power trough the entire rev range is fun, the extra rotating mass suits me fine as it stabilizes the bike and I never ride fast in turns anyway. When not doing tight turns with engine at high revs (gyro effect) it feels to me just as light as the 300..
Love this. Lower frequencies travel more than high frequencies. Ever hear anyone bragging about tweeters in tha club? 4 strokes are the bass and two strokes are not.
It doesn't matter if you prefer the 2 smoker or the 4 banger, you will always get hate from the other side. We all have our preferences as to what we feel comfortable on (me personally, I prefer 4 stroke bikes...but later this year when I'm able to ride again I will be on a 250/300 2 stroke, purely for something different). As for the noise, even if a 4 stroke sounds louder, the 2 stroke tends to register louder when measured, which I think is due to the pitch/frequency at which they operate...but ultimately it's hard to go past a 4 stroke on the limiter...pure eargasm!!
For me I believe it’s personal preference, i have always been a two stroke boy and have always loved them more because they are lighter and just burst so quickly but recently I rode a mates ktm 500 exc and absolutely loved it and i may even change to four stroke 🤷♂️
Maybe this will help “The molecules in the medium, as they are forced to vibrate back and forth, generate heat. Consequently, a sound wave can only propagate through a limited distance. In general, low frequency waves travel further than high frequency waves because there is less energy transferred to the medium.” By the way I love this channel. Another thing to note is oil filters oil changes transmission oil changes to the cost of maintaining a 4 stroke. I know you slightly went over it in a previous video I believe part 2. But it does get costly. On a side note with these new EFI two strokes, they will probably be almost as expensive as a 4 stroke to maintain do to the fact that you will be buying oil AND purchasing a new oil pump every 60-80 hours approximately. That can add up quickly. I’m all for innovation but at what cost? Carbureted bikes are great yeah you have to get your hands “greasy”if your EFI goes out that’s big money. Somethings should be left the way they are and these big market industries with motocross are making it harder and harder to afford to ride.
I'm noticing half the comments are people who people who haven't spent a lot of time on one or the other bike. I've been riding roughly 24 years. Started on 2 strokes up until 2009 got my first 4 stroke been on 4 strokes since and I can without a doubt tell you everything these guys are saying is true. 4strokes are better for the track. And 2 strokes are better for the desert. That's how it works. 4 strokes are louder. They're faster. They're heavier. Doesnt make a 4 stroke bad. Just means it's better for other applications.
My “15” KTM 300 has galactic miles and about 4,000 hrs. Nothing but pistons, chain/sprockets, brake pads, suspension maintenance, decals/plastics, and a box of B and A class trophies. My 4T friends suffer from flame-out, working harder, loud noise, and hole lot of extra maintenance. At the end.... to each his own I’m sure they’re both fantastic.
The sound carrying is science. I think they are both the same loudness close up. Bass notes lower in the frequency range carry further than higher ones. Example: People with Subwoofers in their car. You never hear the treble when they're cruising down the road, just the boom.
Loved my 2 strokes but that was in the 80's with 9 bikes and only one 4 stroke 500 single Yamaha what a dog, I really loved my 400 and 500 Kawasaki triples . The 500 was built by a on track mechanic for Kawasaki snowmobile drag racing on lakes. It had shaved cylinder from the bottom giving it a great power band that started at 7000 and was really strong till about 9500
I had to go with a 4 wish they had more 2s in the states. I agree totally with the sound. 2s have a higher pitch and most people interpret that as louder.
When people talk about "the best bike" what they are really saying is "the best bike for me." I would go on to say that most people are also buying a bike for some type of situation. Thus there will always be debate about this topic, which I think is a good thing. Pros and cons to both sides but at least this is some great information to consider before buying!
Four strokes noise travels farther because of the deep tone. Deeper noises have longer wavelengths and a lower frequency so it allows them to travel through the air for longer distances.
I believe how fast you are all boils down to technique. Back in 2002 I raced a 02 cr250 and I lined up against a lot of 4 strokes, I was a hole shot machine very rarely did anyone bet me to the first corner. In 2006 I switched to a RMZ450 and nothing changed I still holeshot my class. Traction equals speed so when you drag raced the 2 and 4 stroke on that dry pebbly road the 4 stroke will always have the advantage. Re run that race on a groomed moist Moto x track and I’ll bet that two stroke is right there. Also fuel economy I do believe 4 strokes get better fuel economy, I understand your point on how far you twist that grip however if all parameters are equal same displacement same rider perfectly jetted bikes the four stroke will run farther it fires twice as less. And I do agree 4 strokes are easier to ride fast the motor power curve is so much more usable it allows sloppy riding technique and will still reward the rider. By the way I know ride a 2018 300xc because I’m riding off-road I chose this bike but if I were still racing motor it would be a 4 stroke
The lower pitched 4 stroke exhaust note sound waves are harder to reduce in volume.Static objects such as trees do not absorb the lower pitched sound waves as easily .Thats why you stand outside the door of a night club and hear "boom a boom a boom".I am also a musician and understand these things.I (slightly) baffled my 450 husky so as not to piss everyone off.No complaints yet😀
Haven't rode my KX450 since I bought my TE250'15, so I took it for a ride today. I kinda forgot how much instant power you put on the ground with one twist of the throttle; front end just trying to stay down! And that sound is so much more satisfying than my 2 stroke, insanly loud! But as soon as I got in the technical stuff, I knew why I got the Husky: weight and maneuverability.
My opinion and i'm a novice rider in local haresramcles circuit. I race a honda 450R and a ktm 300 2-stroke. The thumper was easier to ride but i got way more tired from the weight and harder starting. The smoker i ran the piss out of and was able to ride faster and easy starting. . Bottom line riding the same track on 2 diff bikes, i got 5th place on a 2-stroke and 14th on the 4-stroke.
I love both but I am an 80s kid so I grew up on cr250r and cr500s haha so I have a special place for 2 strokes I actually learned how to ride a bike on a 89 Honda cr250r I bought haha I had to lean it against the house to kick start it lol now I'm 6ft 3" and I still have that first cr250r from my childhood :)
I think a better comparison would be a 2016 300 XC or XC-W vs. 2016 350 XCF-W, especially for trail riding. I have the 2013 KTM 350 XC-F and the suspension, weight and lighter crank gets you in those situations where you would stall out the bike more often on trails. The XC-F I believe is also for the more experienced(balls out) rider where keeping momentum is not an issue. My 2016 350 XCF-W 6 days feels lighter, the suspension is tits(4CS and PDS) and can chug all day long. Night and day vs. my 2013. Both awesome bikes. Great vids and keep up the good work man! -Dave Miller
When people hear a two stroke, they know somebody is in the woods, 'messing with nature'. And they tend to call the cops in my country. (W-Europe) With the sound of a 4stroke, people doesn't think that way, it could be a bike on the street. But I got a 2stroke anyway. Love the chainsaw noise.
It's amazing to hear that four strokes have captured the hearts of the people, I grew up with two strokes and to me they sound so mean it gets my adrenaline flowing. Where as four strokes sound way too tame!! Just my personal bias!!!!
Thank you for this good comparative. In regard of the noise though I think this loudness reach is a little biased in that sens that yes, 4 stroke could be louder but the reality is what is important at equal loudness volume is the pitch. 2 Strokes is very high pitch making it more ear stressful to non riders around. For loud the 4 stroke is, I believe it's a more reinsuring, less agressive sound to the human ear. This being said I personaly prefer the sound, and nervousness in that sound, of the 2 stroke, especially if I'm on it... But I guess to hear all day long if you're near a track or such, the two stroke would bug more on the long run.
I have a 250 2 stroke & a 350 4 stroke (both KTM & both "W" models with extended gear ranges)..every time I swap bikes it amazes me how different each bike is. Very different riding styles (engine braking, low end grunt, ability to roll through rough terrain at insanely low RPM's, etc.). At the end of the day the weight savings & apparent (not sure if i'm right on this point) lower center of gravity of my 2 stroke makes it more fun to ride when agility is needed but the stability of my 350 feels good at times too. What's best? No such thing as an overall "best" IMHO.
As a bit of a new rider, my preference certainly tells me I probably like four strokes a little better, though that might just be bias, as that's the only dirt bike I HAVE at current. But it's also because I hear 2 strokes are built for serious speed, whereas I seem to think a little bit more about power. And my ratty old 250 gio has done it just fine for me so far. Yeah I know it probably isn't the best bike, but it's what I could afford. Maybe when I get a little more money and experience I'll invest in a brand name 2 stroke just to see what their like.
How about acceleration reaction? It seems to me that on 2 strokes you have to use the clutch, while 4 stroke just need gas to put the front tire on high
I have an 09 kx 250f frame with a ported, piped 98 kx 500 (owned since 02). I love this bike, but kawi isn't making 500 parts anymore. What do you recommend? Is Honda still making CR500 parts? I prefer kawi, but also love Honda. The guy who made my af conversion can easily make a cr af. But I would rather not start over with 2 more bikes to buy and combine; and chalk up my kawi as a paper weight. Thanks for your advice.
They are both great bikes, it depends on what you prefer and how you ride. Its interesting to hear the differences between the two...HOWEVER, its personal opinion and theres no need to bicker back and forth. My 4 stroke TTR230 is WAY louder than my friends yz250 2 stroke. I like them both and the both have different sounds.
Prefer 2 stroke for the maintenance I can rebuild a top end in around half an hour and just purchased a new Sherco 250 se-r 6 days can't wait to get her on the trails.
Great video series. I have ridden Honda and Suzuki 4 strokes the last ten years and four strokes are fun, smooth power and yes, faster in most drag races, but they are heavy on the tight singletrack and way too expensive to rebuild the top ends. I thought that by now, four stroke top ends would cost less to rebuild and also that the valves would be better. I was wrong. Honda valves are junk, almost everyone that I know and ride with rebuild their Honda topends early with Kibblewhite valves and better springs to avoid issues down the road. This is also very common on the CRF forums. So for me, due to lighter weight on the Trail rides that I go on in Idaho, and the simplicity and low cost of top end rebuilds, I'm switching back to 2 strokes very soon. I see now also that Yamaha is coming out with the YZ250 FX with heavier flywheel weight and kickstand. Beta's 300RR and Xtrainer are both awesome trail bikes. I really think that the 2 stroke is coming back in a big big way and other factories will notice and follow suit. Not everyone rides wide open desert or motocross and for many of other riders, in the mountains, it's the two stroke that wins.
I like both it's just when I ride I trust my 4 more because I can ride it all day no problem. The 2 always has issues while riding for a long time rather it's the spark plug or blown top end. I swear my brother bought 4 2 strokes 2 scrambles and 2 250 dirt bikes. They all broke down! He bought 4 4strokes and we have ran those things into the ground and they are still running. I had an outlaw 525 ran that baby in the ground no problem and I bought it new in 2007.
I really like the videos and you guys provide a load of great info, but I wish you included someone who prefers 4 stroke as a contrary opinion. It's easy to talk about how one thing is better than another when everyone around is like minded. But keep up the good work guys. It definitely has me thinking. I ride a KTM 530EXC because I needed a street legal bike here in CA and would definitely consider a 2 stroke next but the EPA laws are rough out here. Thanks again.
I just love dirt bikes, I love my 2strokes just as much as my 4stroke, im riding a crf450 now, just love the all out constant power when hitting the hill in the desert, 2stroke on the track, more light & can throw around
Don't mind 2 smokers, owned one for years. However from a practical point of view its easier to just put straight fuel in the tank and not have to worry about damaging my exhaust on a 4. Just my 2 cents. From the 2 stroke 4 stroke noise side though, how often have you been the guy back at camp and hear the 2s way before you hear the 4s?
I agree that the lower note of a four stroke can definitely carry farther, but the manic ring of a two stroke on the pipe tends to freak out the public at large when it's approaching them (hikers, etc) more so than a four stroke at half throttle or below. It may not be fair, but they're already assuming the approaching riders are throttle drunk a-holes, vs some guys out for a ride in the mountains. The two stroke just has that urgency to it. That being said, I ride a DRZ400 and I'm eyeballing a sweet 2 stroke KTM as the future steed of choice. The lower weight, increased tractability, and nice suspension tipped the scales for me.

Great video there both great bikes. I own both husky wr250 and wr450f I like the nice snappy power band of the wr250 and broad linear power of the 450. My mates I go riding with are all on four strokes including me now and they have there little digs at two stokes at times, one of them in particular hasn't had a decent ride of a two stroke but bags them out anyway I've said to him if you had a decent ride of one you probably wouldn't think there that bad and might like them too.
Congratulations for your work! Altough it is very clear that you are on the smoker Side :-)You are still objectif about the plus points of the 4 strokers. My hart also beats for the 2 strokers and it might be that they are not louder than the 4 Stroker, but the acceptance of the 4 Stroke - sound by the not-motorbiking population is higher, at least here in Switzerland. That`s why I ride a 4 Stroker (530exc-R)Greez
How often do the 4 strokes overheat? What does it cost to replace a top-end or total motor overhaul on a modern 4 stroke compared to a 2stroke? Thanks for the info and videos!
Hey man, been watching for awhile and have a direct question - should i switch to a 2stroke for hard enduro? I had a 4 stroke but where we ride they overheat and blow up super easily
Nice video like always but I got a question what bike u think is better the ktm 500 or the wr450f if they put the new engine on it the 2015 yz450f engine like they did to the new wr250f. Thanks and keep it up you make some of the best videos.
G-man-809 Overall the KTM 500 has more tech and better components like the clutch and brakes to name a couple. I think the WR is a good bike, but the KTM 500 is probably a better overall package. The problem with the KTM is that it's a fair amount more expensive. You have to take that into consideration.
I own both and love both however 2 strokes are louder lets be honest watch any motorcross race with 4 strokes and 2 strokes you can hear the 2 strokes over the 4 strokes. For some reason my neighbors hate it when I bring out the 2 stroke not so much when I bring out the 4 stroke.
4wake4 I can only review what I've owned or at least had a chance to ride for a number of hours (3+ at least). As of yet, I've not had a chance to ride a Beta.
I have had both.
And I LOVE both.
Its not what you ride its that you ride.
+Braap Force This is true, my friend.
+Braap Force me too
braaaaaap!!!!
+Dirt Bike Channel I got to say my friends have both and love them but they all say a 2 strok will kill a new rider like myself and I think you missed something what bike is for a new ride for new people to get? #RealistShitSaid
Dirtbikes are so fun pick a color and go have fun
That isn't bad advice.
2 stroke are better because they have a power band
Mitchell Hodgins depends on what color power band tho :)
haha i laughed so hard at this
Mitchell Hodgins and they even sell aftermarket ones 😉😉
Now that's how a 2stroke vs 4stroke Video should be!!! You guys nailed it.
daniel bash Thank you!
Im new to dirt biking and im getting my first ever dirt bike after a week. Is a 4 stroke 125cc fast enough to have fun? And if not, what should i get?
I'd say that the 2 strokes for me seem to be louder up close but the 4 strokes noise carries further.
Ballisti cs 2 strokes are quieter, just more high pitched and it seems that it's louder. 4 strokes sound goes further and is just louder, but deeper
Lower frequency sound travels further
Don't know why all the 4 stroke people are getting butt hurt, I'm a 4 stroke guy and I love 2 strokes two. In fact I fully agree with what the video said with the comparison.
Yeah I like both 2 and 4 with my snowmobile is a 2 stroke and it's awesome , I also ride a 4 stroke dirt bike and quad and they're great too.

Haha love the analogy the annoying two stroke era , now we are in the annoying 4 stroke era lol
The 4 stroke is "louder" because it's a lower frequency, 2 strokes get drowned out because of the higher sound it makes...
I love 4 stroke but getting 2 stroke for next bike
Same, I love both
Im new to dirt biking and im getting my first ever dirt bike after a week. Is a 4 stroke 125cc fast enough to have fun? And if not, what should i get?
NaruFTW did you get 1 ? I personally think a 125cc 4 stroke is slow, if you hadn’t got your first bike yet I’d recommend a 125 2 stroke !
When I'm having a really great day just chilling out, I like to ride my 4 stroke but when I get angry and want to let out some steam I get on the 2-stroke, I love both of my bikes!!!
I'm a 2 stroke guy for life I love my 2016 300 xc-w keep up the great videos
Just got a kx 100 2 stroke. I just love the 2 stroke on and off the pipe riding style. Thx
Wiley Hart what fuel ratio do u run on the kx?
After 5 years with ktm 2t just moved to Honda 4stroke the bike is just fantastic, just my opinion, keep up the good work guys
I have moved to 2 stroke in the past month, and I completely agree with these vids. im not sure witch I like better yet but its clear that 2 stroke does make a lot more top end power but bottom end depends on what size you have.
joe cheesymgee Keep Smokin!
I ride a cr480. 4 stroke guys hear me coming a mile away lol! But I wouldn't exactly call that black thing on the end of my pipe a silencer, either. Packing blew out of it probably in the early 90's.
EreksonJ :)
EreksonJ Haha excellent comment
EreksonJ Put in new packing, it'll make more power. Like you need more power with a CR480, right! Not positive but I think Pro Circuit and FMF still sell the older CR silencers. That WILL make more power. On my old open 2 strokes I used to buy the unpainted 'works' CR and KX pipes and do some precision cuts and reweld 'em to fit mine (Husky's/Maico's, etc.)
Im new to dirt biking and im getting my first ever dirt bike after a week. Is a 4 stroke 125cc fast enough to have fun? And if not, what should i get?
Personaly I enjoy the thrill of both especially because they are both so unique and have so many different features
I love both! Four strokes torque in low rpm and the sound:3 Easy to wheelie! Twostrokes powerband and easy to fix! Both are awesome!
Thanks guys for making this. Makes me feel better for sticking to my CR250
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
tarded400 I think you are bang on with your assessment.
"uncorked"
Dirt Bike Channel
I get way more noise complaints on my two stroke when I am riding on the edge of the forest etc, once i get inside it i dont get any complaints on my way home. Meanwhile the thumper I had would get complaints all the time and people would be waiting on the bottom of my hill etc haha.
🤓Not sure why anybody is sad on either side... "Simply pick the tool that works for your personal style" 🔧
👉🏽If its about maintenance, same goes, get what works for your budget!
+Dirt Bike Channel
Best video I have seen in a while, you were so honest, not just opinionated like pretty much everyone.
Good analogy.
MatnBec BikeAdventures Thanks for the comment.
I got a ktm 150 xcw and it has never let me down its such a fun bike
Execelent comparison.. I like both styles of bikes. A friend just bought the new 2020 Husqvarna 300 TPI No more mixing. Its a awesome bike.
4 strokes and 2 strokes gotta love um both. It doesn’t matter ride to ride.❤️
U guys have done a great job with this and made the world realize that 2 strokes are not dead
The rider Thank you!
I've got a two stroke and a four stroke and I honestly couldn't pick a favorite they're both great, but I do love the sound of a 2 stroke though.
+Gage Brownlee Yes, they both have their good points.
I have a KLX 140l 4 stoke and I love it and I dont care if u like 2 or 4 they both are good for trails and we both love doing the same thing so 😊
The sound carrying is science. I think they are both the same loudness close up. Bass notes lower in the frequency range carry further than higher ones. Example: People with Subwoofers in their car. You never hear the treble when they're cruising down the road, just the boom.
Me and my friend ride 2 strokes and we both love them
I am 12 with a kawaski 85cc 2 stroke 2008 and i love 2 stroke only because the power band is just there and ita fun to mess around with
You’re 12 and have an 85 shouldn’t you have a 250 already
@@haydenallen2671 how big were you when you were 12 XD
Jack Morris I’m 6’ something
Thanks to you guys I bought a KTM 300 XCW last weekend!
+keepntyme Awesome!! Excited to see what you think after you get a few tanks of gas through it.
I have both and I like the 2 stroke a little bit better because it is not as heavy and I love the sound.
When people talk about "the best bike" what they are really saying is "the best bike for me." I would go on to say that most people are also buying a bike for some type of situation. Thus there will always be debate about this topic, which I think is a good thing. Pros and cons to both sides but at least this is some great information to consider before buying!
Chain Driven I totally agree with your comment. Thanks for sharing.
Four strokes noise travels farther because of the deep tone. Deeper noises have longer wavelengths and a lower frequency so it allows them to travel through the air for longer distances.
airsnipe4 This is true. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for your very good movie and excellent presentation !! Very pleasant to look at and very informative !!
Love the channel guys. I have both bikes, 300 xc and 250 xcf. Keep up the good work.
Finally I found awesome channel! Thank you guys for your work.
I love dirt bikes :)
Mateej Thanks for watching.
Haven't rode my KX450 since I bought my TE250'15, so I took it for a ride today. I kinda forgot how much instant power you put on the ground with one twist of the throttle; front end just trying to stay down! And that sound is so much more satisfying than my 2 stroke, insanly loud! But as soon as I got in the technical stuff, I knew why I got the Husky: weight and maneuverability.
mark grenon It's all about trade offs, right?
I love both but the 2stroke ripping through the pine trees is music to my ears
My opinion and i'm a novice rider in local haresramcles circuit. I race a honda 450R and a ktm 300 2-stroke. The thumper was easier to ride but i got way more tired from the weight and harder starting. The smoker i ran the piss out of and was able to ride faster and easy starting. . Bottom line riding the same track on 2 diff bikes, i got 5th place on a 2-stroke and 14th on the 4-stroke.
It's still an awesome bike! Rebuilding my suspension and setting it up with proper springs/shock & gold valves this coming week!
Your video coverage/work is sublime, thks again.
+Bruce Kendall Glad you enjoy it.

+millerpb Thanks for taking time to comment.
When people hear a two stroke, they know somebody is in the woods, 'messing with nature'. And they tend to call the cops in my country. (W-Europe)
With the sound of a 4stroke, people doesn't think that way, it could be a bike on the street.
But I got a 2stroke anyway. Love the chainsaw noise.
If we're talking ktm the 500exc is a monster and it light. The 300 ex tpi is also killer. Glad we have choices.
It's amazing to hear that four strokes have captured the hearts of the people, I grew up with two strokes and to me they sound so mean it gets my adrenaline flowing. Where as four strokes sound way too tame!! Just my personal bias!!!!
Great series guys!
Personally I think both are great engines, ultimately it depends on the individual and their preferences and style of riding
+Aidan Fazlija I agree 100%
LOVE THIS VIDEO SERIES
rcisourmiddlename Thank you. There is more to come.
I love the 350 and the 300 both wicked bikes! Will be buying a 350 6 days as well towards the end of the year to go with my 300 ;)
I love the sound of four stroke....but all the pros of the two stroke....hands down a better over all bike without a doubt.
UnitCrane514 Thanks for the input.
Prefer 2 stroke for the maintenance I can rebuild a top end in around half an hour and just purchased a new Sherco 250 se-r 6 days can't wait to get her on the trails.
I own a Husaberg 400 4 stroke and a KTM 300 exc 2 stroke and I love them both. But I like the 2 stroke more.
+Chase Arrington Good man. Have them both!
Not everyone rides wide open desert or motocross and for many of other riders, in the mountains, it's the two stroke that wins.
fz07.org Thank you for this well thought out comment. You nailed it!
Was it a 350 2 stroke vs a 350 4 stroke ?
You guys are cool. Right on.
+Mike Krueger You certainly make some good points here.
I own a 850cc 4 stroke street bike and like the change-up with a 2 stroke dirt bike... Having both 4's was just a bit boring for me.
What's a good 2 stroke for me I'm 5'2 and 100 pounds 12
Love this kind of content keep it up!!!

I ended up with a 2002 cr250 and I love it.
+Avenger 21 Very cool.
+Dirt Bike Channel do you have a video up showing the difference between a o-Ring and non-o ring chains?
+chrigul1 Thanks for taking time to comment. Greetings from the US!
I got a 2016 Ktm 250 Xc-f , I think 2 or 4 are both good just personal preference.
You have to take that into consideration.
so I am gonna get a 2stroke maybe. but should I??
I own both and love both however 2 strokes are louder lets be honest watch any motorcross race with 4 strokes and 2 strokes you can hear the 2 strokes over the 4 strokes. For some reason my neighbors hate it when I bring out the 2 stroke not so much when I bring out the 4 stroke.
The popping and crackling of 4 stroke engines sounds so good tho
Panashe Muchekwa There is something to it, for sure.
Thanks for the info in these videos , very helpful .
Excellent series. I know your KTM will get jealous, but please post a review of the Beta 300rr if you get a chance.
4wake4 I can only review what I've owned or at least had a chance to ride for a number of hours (3+ at least). As of yet, I've not had a chance to ride a Beta.
