    Went to see Johnny at DBA, a hole in the wall club on Frenchmen St. in New Orleans (my hometown) with my son and my cousin, who Johnny replaced as the drummer for Lenny McDaniels and The New Era (circa 1968). During a break, Johnny came and set with us and autographed a pair of drumsticks for my son, who still has them. My son also took lessons at Johnny's house. Besides being one of the greatest drummers on the planet, Johnny is New Orleans through and through, a gentleman, and the coolest cat I ever met. You might want to check out one of his students, Brian Blade.

      Yup Johnny allowed me do video him casually talking drums etc. while we were both playing on LRBC a total all day night long blues music cruise. I know Brian and Brady Blade and use to see Brady sit in once in a while at a place when I lived in Nashville. Both amazing drummers.

      @Carlos Danger Thanks for the tip. I'll pass that along to my son. We also saw him years ago at Maple Leaf Bar off Carrollton Ave. where he mixed in some of his poetry with his drumming.

    he`s so relaxed, and that`s a wonderful perspective wich also shows how alone a drummer is in a band

    Love it, a chance to watch the great Johnny Vidacovich up close!

    All of the twitching and head jerking is him feeling the groove. Sometimes he’s catching himself push or pull. Great musicianship and he’s very supportive of the music vs. flashy chops

      Also we were on a week long blues cruise so that boat was moving us front to back because of the direction we were sailing.

    To Monica,
    No problem, I was for me "documenting" my time playing the same cruise as Johnny and he is a wealth of knowledge especially in the New Orleans style drumming which to be able to watch from that close let alone be welcomed to record it is every serious musicians dream. And like Johnny said he has no ownership over it but just his love of music and drumming to share it. In the different videos I posted he took me all the way back to the "Mother Rhythm". Anyway, Johnny is one of those musical treasures and he has numerous times opened my ears to approaching music not from just a drummers view. It was just a once in a lifetime moment to be able and allowed by someone to share what is their passion for so many years and allow people to share it. Believe me a lot of musician would have stopped me dead in my tracks if I even thought about doing this lol
    Peace!

    • @groovetube24
      @groovetube24  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Monica Muil, on the Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruise. I was playing with Coco Montoya and Johnny with Tab Benoit and the Voice of the Wetlands Allstars.
      Johnny who was amazing to meet and hang around with during the week was gracious enough to let me set up my camera and capture his performance. I just wanted to have the video to study Johnny's approach etc. Johnny said I was welcome to share it as he loves sharing what the music he plays.
