📚Description: The Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin Double Neck is one of the most famous EDS-1275 guitars ever made. His original was a custom order from 1971 that he later swapped out the pickups in. Today, we are documenting the Gibson Custom Shop recreation of this guitar! The Jimmy Page Double Neck | “Stairway to Heaven” Guitar 1971 EDS-1275 Reissue
3-14-24 - The Jimmy Page Gibson 1969 EDS-1275 Doubleneck Collector’s Edition is officially released. Peculiarly, this time the guitar is called a 1969 despite it being called a 1971 at the first issuing. Hopefully Gibson will share with us the additional details they found to update this!

The only SD pickup on Jimmy's EDS 1275 is the bridge pickup on the 6 string string side. The other three are original Ttops. No, Gibson didn't use any SD pickups for the new one.

Trogly, do you know any immediate signs of an epiphone being fake? The zakk wylde camo lp i bought years ago came w an epiphone checklist & mini epi booklet showing setup instructions. The serial number is legit. Bought keystone grover locking tuners from Sweetwater and they are a tad off from the stock grover tuners. Buzz kill. Thanks for any info or video you can link me to.

I bought an EDS 1275 years back that was part of a huge Sam Ash buy. It was a 1975 build and as the EDS 1275 was not in regular production. It had the same long tailpiece mounting and the body was doweled at the factory like this one. It had the two covers removed like this one...One piece body...I tried to confirm who had ordered it and could not get a direct answer from Gibson... They would just tell me it was a Celebrity Custom Order. .It weighed a crazy light 10.5 lbs. No mods to it at all. Super clean except for a sizeable buckle wear spot on back. I found out after I foolishly sold it that it was shipped to a record company in California when new... LOL. Live and learn...I think I paid 1100.00 dollars for it... Those were the days. I had my aunt take my picture and when the polaroid developed it was pretty dark and my eyes were glowing bright red lol. She thought it looked bad but I told her given Jimmy had a reputation for studying witchcraft it was appropriately demonic lol. She didn't like it when I said that. I wish I still had that picture. Most not all. We have given birth to a monster. Personally I have no desire for the glam of signature guitars and yes I could afford one, but they make no sense to me. I play and not one of them is going to make me sound like Page, Slash or any of them. I sound like me whether no matter what I play. Ok, I'm off this soapbox.

I know it’s part of the legendary Jimmy Page look, but I always preferred the tighter 12 string tuner spacing on the doublenecks used by Alex Lifeson and Don Felder. Same thing with Gibson and Epiphone 12 string acoustics. The wider spaced ones just look a bit goofy.

You forgot to mention he saw Family's guitarist John Whitney use an 1275 and got inspiration to use one as this was Whitney's main gigging guitar. Also that he opted for a longer position of the tailpiece behind the bridge because he thought it would give the guitar more resonance, plus a longer string tension results in a less slinky guitar than one with a shorter bridge length as opposed to what you said. Hence why Fender's 25 1/2" feels more rigid than a Gibson's 24 3/4".

I really want his Les Paul signature when it comes out but I feel like these limited artist custom shop signatures are always sold out by the time they’re released. I’ve called multiple dealers and reached out to Gibson but no one could even confirm a release date. I’m not paying $50k though. Would like to see a “cheaper” regular VOS model from custom shop. I’d only consider paying $50K if I could meet the man himself lol.

Amazing video and sounds! I used to have the Epiphone version, made in Korea in 1996. It did have also the extended string length, but it had three toggle switches. Two pickup selectors, by each neck pickup, and the selector in between, closer to the bridges, working as neck selector. This one was also taller, like the one in this video, and that allowed you to change necks using your forearm. I actually think that Epiphone's layout worked better! You could have different pickups selected on each neck and quickly change from 12 to 6, or viceversa, with your forearm while strumming.

That wiring and switching is bizarre. I have an Epiphone version of this (much cheaper!), and it has 3 toggle switches. The switch on the bottom horn selects the Neck, Bridge, or both pickups on the 6-string side. The middle selector between the bridge selects the 12- or 6- string necks or both (middle). Then there is a third 3 position switch between the 2 neck pickups that selects the 12-string neck pickups. It sounds amazing and looks very similar to this one, otherwise, even down to the uncovered pickups on the 6-string side. Did you notice the neck dive?

The best reason to play a doubleneck is if you have a song that needs either neck for different sections, and you have maybe one beat’s worth of time to change. I played (and sang) Hotel California in a country band years ago, and since I didn’t have a doubleneck, I had to play the solos (both parts!) on 12-string. I tried, once, playing the entire song on 6-string, but the verses didn’t sound right, even using chorus to simulate a 12-string. Got to have the real thing!

Correct me if I’m wrong please, but I believe you’ve got it backwards Trogly- having longer strings should theoretically make it feel like there’s MORE tension, not “slinkier”. This is for sure the case with scale length, but I’m not certain about having more string length from bridge to tailpiece. But I would imagine that even though there’s a bridge between the nut and tailpiece, the “longer strings = more tension” thing should still stand.
