I was really happy with the Ministry, Grimmauld Place and the shrieking shack. They look really good in my display
Honestly, I think that this year has been really good for HP. Imo, the worst sets of the year are still pretty good, overpriced for sure, but good. Contrast with a theme like Superheroes and it becomes painfully apparent just how good it’s been haha.
As someone who enjoys minifigs more than anything else in Lego, I have to rank the Advent Calendar much higher than you did (even though I should have waited until it was half-price to get it>
I was waiting until the price had dropped for the Advent Calendar but it was sold out completely in my area before Christmas even came.
For me, the alt expressions on Harry and Hermione were the best part of the Sirius' Rescue set. I feel like they captured the actor's faces perfectly from when they flew on Buckbeak during the end of the movie. Makes me wish Sirius had a face referencing Gary Oldman's "Wooooo!" from that same scene.
But still you can't put multiple figures on buckbeak

Actually I found the stairs for Sirius’s Escape very useful when you attach it to Dumbledore’s Office and use the statue that hides the stair that opens up to get into his office. And I’m planning on using the room below the prison tower as Filch’s Office as it already has a place to put a broom which you could say is non-magical for cleaning the castle.
Disagree on Advent Calendar. 7 figs plus couch boy and hedwig! Mini builds are genius considering base is a 2x4. But I only paid $20 as Costco clearance item...maybe that's why I love it.

The polybags should be higher up on the list in my opinion. Such a great way to build up a full hogwarts on a budget. I got the Horntail as a gift for my wife, and the seven polybags I’ve built look great as a backdrop for the display.
Magical Trunk was the clone army pack we needed. Just need to MOC the cases into something better.
The Ministry of Magic would look better if there was something in the space under the sign; or if there was the ability to place the buildings together and place the sign above. As always, enjoyed your video.
We must agree on most of this lol, the only two sets I bought from this wave were the shrieking shack and grimwald
Hospital Wing is a nice set, thinking I'll pick it up. The best sets are unfortunately expensive but that one is not bad. Nice video!
Respect to Holly for criticising the Hogwarts Express. It is oversized and overpriced. I feel like a lot of Harry Potter and Star Wars fans overlook Lego going too big or making mistakes when it's their franchise and make excuses for it. We should complain just the same when Lego does stuff with other franchises similar to what they're doing with Marvel or Icons
Everyone and their mom has criticized the Hogwarts Express though, it’s the Hulkbuster of HP right now. Too much bulk with not enough play at a high price point - only difference is the Hogwarts Express actually looks like it’s worth a high price tag (Hulkbuster is laughable).

The express would be much better smaller as a normal set.
Who decides when a set is too big though? That’s such a subjective quality.
I love the size of the set, I think it makes for a great display piece, and I much prefer it to something more in line with the usual Lego train size
As a railfan (train nerd), I would like to say I totally agree, but I would get in deep trouble for the things I would say to you. The size of the train is fine.
I have to rank my advent calendar a bit higher just because I got it significantly cheaper as I got it in January or February.
The grindle walds place makes me WISH we got it as a modular building, like how marvel made the sanctum, it would make it feel and have a place and not just a standalone set
Love your analysis of every set, grimmauld place and the shrieking shack and the hospital wing are my favorites from this year

Tbh, I don’t really get the hype over the Shrieking Shack. The side builds are sort of ugly and flimsy. I also prefer the older whomping willow as it was upright. The minifigures are also pretty boring and mostly repeats, although I do like werewolf lupin. The shack does blend nicely with the hogsmead set, but those two builds had really cool interiors, which the shack does not. The shack in the movies and books didn’t have a great interior either, so I get why it’s simple on that front. I much prefer the other three big sets of the wave, especially Grimmauld place. It’s a decent set, but no where near the best set of the year for me.
exactly i already have a serius, lupin and wormtail etc etc so i would be getting it just for the werewolf and grim. i quite like the whomping willow even though i already have one of those aswell. we need sets with some obscure characters we havent got yet. like a cheaper set with lucsious for example or xenophilius lovegood

I’m not sure which set is my favourite, if I had to choose I’d probably choose the shrieking shack or grimmauld place.
I was aiming to get all of the new Harry Potter sets as well, but it just kept getting more & more expensive to the point that I had to give up. I already have a big Lego backlog, and I'm pretty much focused other sets like my Disney Castle, and I just got the awesome Sesame Street & Atari 2600 sets today!
I really hope you collect every Harry Potter set because at this point, I'm living vicariously through you 😭😅
I agree with you on some of these sets not being worth the price, especially after Lego's price increase, and the Advent Calendar is one of those I really agree with you on for that. Not really interested in the game aspect either. (A holiday themed scene like they did in 2019 and 2020 would be better, in my opinion.) However, It's on sale everywhere this week for at least $10 less. Got mine at Target today for $28 instead of $45. (For the Moaning Myrtle, Tonks and Deathly Hallows Neville with the sword of Gryffindor, I felt it was worth it.) The Shrieking Shack set is my favorite of the 2022 sets. The price is the reason I didn't get Grimmauld Place.
I loved the last one. All the builds were minifig scale and you could include them in your builds or they are great play elements.
Have two Sirius Rescue. Might be a bit bare but I use them to help build the castle, and more importantly you can turn corners. Never pay full price, always look for specials.
Its funny, the shack was the first one I bought this year and the G. place the second. I am waiting to find some new sets under the 🎄
Buckbeak getting recolored was cool, but it's a shame he was in such a weak set. I prefer the color from the 2019 Hagrid's Hut anyway, he just fits a lot more in light gray in my opinion.
I agree that the Hogwarts Express is overpriced, but other than that it is a beautiful well thought out set. Most of the criticism it has received is due to people evaluating it compared to a hypothetical set they want; not criticism based on the design/features of the set itself based on what the set actually is. This was CLEARLY designed 100% as display piece. From the striking size and beautiful build which immediately draw ones’ eye. To the detailed scenes that can be illuminated. The continued criticism of the size of the platform most clearly shows peoples’ failure to evaluate the set for what it is. The set is not intended to be functional. It is certainly not intended to be a play-set for which a full station would be appropriate. Again, this set was designed as a display piece; closer to art than a toy. With this in mind, the platform was deliberately designed to complement the visual/artist presence of the piece as a whole. It adds visually and thematically to the piece while keeping the train the focus (as it is meant to be). A larger platform that blocked more of the train would take away from the set as a cohesive display.
THAT BEING SAID, it is overwhelming clear that the target market for this beautifully designed display set is very small. At this price the vast majority of people would have loved an elaborate, functional train/play-set. From a business standpoint, LEGO should have known what their fans wanted and delivered.

Not entirely true either. I assume you are using the train from the movies as your point of reference since it is a darker red.
However, a brighter red is an equally "correct" color. The train at universal studios is a brighter shade of red. More importantly, the description of the Hogwarts Express given in the 1st book is:
"A SCARLET steam engine was waiting next to a platform packed with people. A sign overhead said Hogwarts' Express..."
Scarlet(noun): any of various BRIGHT reds.

favourite was the ministry of magic. dont get the hate, sure the build could have been bigger with the statue etc but i got mine for like $140 aud, the colours are fantastic and there are so many awesome figures, i didnt have an umbridge. to get her and the other two death eaters was cool. plus the other ones unique to the set. umbridges office, the floo green flames. all the interiors are great. lego is about imagination in the end of the day and not every set can have 5000 pieces. i think the ministry is brilliant

The Grand Staircase made me mad because I actually was there in time to get it and I tried to check out and I saw that it wasn’t appearing in the bag and then I found out that it had run out in like the middle of the second day of a 5 day or so promo. And that sucked and I almost got it on eBay but I decided what a stupid idea to pay double the price when I would’ve gotten it if lego had just gotten it’s crap together. It actually had me so discouraged that I stoped collecting harry potter sets for months afterward.
With 2022 finished, the carriage and thestrals set is probably one of the better ones of the year, in my opinion.

I get where ur coming from for the hogwarts express BUT I just recently got the set and the build is so fun i didnt want to stop building and i dont care whatsoever about the train not being mtorized and i preffered the tracks but these are all just opinions😃
I don't get the hate on the sirris escape. I'm thinking of buying another just for the two archways. The trunk definately isn't worth it to me. Really want to get a copy of the shack though, that set looks great next to hogsmead.
12:02 It’s very strange that the 2019 Clocktower is in the background of this set’s box art, especially considering the fact that the 2019 one is undeniably much more accurate to the films, *and* is part of a completely separate line of Hogwarts Castle sets. LEGO, you’re weird.

Why be disappointed. It's exclusively the best advent calendar to date. Five exclusive minifigures with five unique and exclusive torsos and three exclusive head pieces. Two nice printed tiles. When you open your calendar, I'm sure you will not be disappointed. No review is better than your own. Enjoy building 👍

This wave of HP sets is generally overpriced. I would love them at 40% off, but not at full price. but after all, I did buy most of them at full price for the staircase promo. Had to get the staircase, it's such a great set
I am shocked you rated the ministry that high. I was so disappointed with it and personally find literally nothing redeemable. I'd put it at number 14 just after the buckbeak escape.

I really hope they move away from the modular Hogwarts sets in 2023 - only reason I have bought any of them was for the gold minifigs. The Hogwarts modulars from 2021 and 2022 with green roofs are just bland.

An opinion is a beautiful thing. It means you can neither be right or wrong. However, putting the polybag with a significantly downgraded Dumbledore above the DC2 Hogwarts Express is just pure bonkers. Great video either way. 👍

I think that the theme is dying and it will probably be gone soon.
While I agree the Shrieking Shack is the best HP set of 2022 (although I think it should have been a much bigger set)...I don't agree with the last places.
To me the Wokewarts Trunk is by far the worst HP set of 2022. It's overpriced, a garbage build, and it was clearly done only to push the "diversity and inclusion" propaganda.
After that, I'd put the carriage. That set is also ridiculous for 20€. The Thestrals are cool, but that's just it. All that the set has to offer is that. And that's not enough to make it any good to me.
