Yeah, they're gaudy AF and that "matte black wrap" looks more like a rattle can job to me. It was probably a lot nicer before that guy modded it.
The OEM ones are better, even the chromed ones.

These ‘03 540i with the m-tech package are getting expensive and harder and harder to find and this guy completely ruined his 😂 😂 😂
Very hard to find in clean condition. People are getting wiser to the old BMWs and their superior build quality and reliability over the mid 2000s/early 2010s. Plus they drive so damn good!
I agree, I just bought an 03 540i msport alpine white, its alittle rough I bought if off an auction, whoever owned it just drove it no maintenance whatsoever. I couldn't resist the price plus that was the best year for the e39 in my opinion. So its worth getting it back to road worthy. All original the way it should be.

I had mine for six months and I miss it every day. I let my dad borrow it, and as he was leaving my house, the steering failed not 200ft from the driveway. All at once, the steering wheel froze, the ABS quit, and the airbags failed to deploy. Took out a tree. It was a '00 Oxford Green w/ true m package (sport seats, steering wheel, shadowline trim, etc.). Had style 37s on Hankooks and BC racing shocks. LOVED that car. My '07 e92 335i is great, but MAN do I miss that v8.

That is a resonator and muffler delete. Not straight pipe.
Sounds good. Already removed the mufflers on my car and contemplating removing the Y resonator too as I want a bit more volume. I just think they sound a little too raspy with no resonator at all, so am thinking a smaller bottle type resonator would work well.

Probably needs another resonater just a tad to loud. But man it sounds good..I will probably do that to mine
The LAST good BMW V8. Once they went to the 4.4, they became junk. That thing sounds so good and unique. Not the biggest fan of the oversized Alpina-like wheels, but I DO like that you do not see regular BMWs like this outside of an E39 M5.
4.4 is a way better performer.
@@lsjionredlinesupercharged2049 when it runs. Those things are endless money pits. The V8 7Series of that era is perhaps the worst car to own of its class. The valve stems, timing chains, VANOS system, etc all break, in most cases, totaling the car. The 4.0L Is a legendary engine and far more reliable, if down slightly on power.(282hp vs 325hp).

How’s the reliability for one of these?
I would have a 3" after the Y-pipe and put a 3" FlowFx offset Muffler near the stock muffler location.

The 4.9L (5 Liter) is only in the M5, this is a 540i which has the 4.4L M62

The wheels are hideous. The exhaust is way too loud and obnoxious. That's not what the E39 is about but to each his own.. How can you pay someone for a newly fabricated cat back but the tip isn't centered with the exhaust cut out?
