I bought a e39 few months ago because I actually fell in love by the way it looks. I always wanted a v8 and the prices of v8 cars in Australia are expensive so I opted out on a 540i. Being a vw tech/ mechanic it’s a great learning curve to learn such amazing beast. Bought one really cheap but it puts a smile on my face every time I get behind the wheel
Hello! Im actually considering buying this Bmw with this particular diesel engine. now i have bmw f31 2.0 diesel 135 kw 2013 year. I mean its nice but i think E39 is more relaible and will make much more miles in the long run than my f31 from year 2013 wouldnt you think? Thanks for your answer 👍

Loved the video. I have an immaculatev1999 528I M sport auto. Drives and looks like new. Paid £1150 in 2015. 198000 miles now and no problems. Best car ever owned. Am 75 Christmas and am sure it will see me out. Great looking car with Angel lights. My son who is car savvy found it for me. I feel lucky every day. Suede interior and all specs work. Fitted LED interior lights and new battery. Nothing else. Son maintains it I pristine condition silver. He has placed top protection polish and it looks showroom. Feel so lucky. Interior as new.
I’m happy you guys like the new editing style. I actually hired an editor for this vid and since the reception has been so good, I’ll most likely keep working w him for future “deep dives”. And yes I know I should try and get the other vids to this quality but it kinda cost a lot and I’m broke as hell man 😂 hopefully if his editing paired w my wonderfully handsome face and soothing voice brings up the views, I can start paying him to edit other vids. But in the meantime, lmk what other deep dives to do bc this one came out great imo. Thanks again guys, and pls don’t hit me a “I ain’t reading allat”

It's a solid look, for sure. But don't go broke, dude! 83K subs is great, and I bet you'll hit 100K before the end of the year, but pay yourself well. I love this deep dive, and will look into getting an old M5 for fun if I can trust it to be Reliable. But I also love when you talk about your cars and what you're doing with them, and that needs income. GL HF

Hey, may I ask how was the reliability of the auto tranny? I’m planning to get one, but I can’t find any MT only in tourings which I don’t really want because it’s too common in europe.
I have an update 535 M-Sport E39 (Dec 2000 build) which I purchase about 4 years ago here in Australia for A$7,500, in reasonable nick but needed a bit of work. It would have been nicer if I had been able to get my hands on a 540 but they still pull reasonable money in Oz. The 535 isn’t as quick but I understand you can work the 535 a little more. Main issues I’ve found so far have been 1) Light control Module has created some gremlins with lights (intermittent headlight and reverse light issues and remote locking). 2) Pixel issues with dash and radio (not an easy fix) 3) Some small oil leaks 4) Perished plastics which I have found hard or expensive to source I.E. MSport door sill plates - these are proving to be hugely expensive ($1,600 a set), windscreen Cowell panel (A$200), windscreen Cowell covers ($100). There are also a number of other plastic component I will need to replace moving forward but this is the price you pay for having an older classic vehicle. It’s worth noting most of the interior trim and plastics have held up well for a 24 year old car.😂
I now drive a later model 5 series and while I love it, I still find myself thinking about my E39 from years ago. I couldn't explain what it was about that car but I can confidently say it bought be more satisfaction that any later model 5 series I've had. It took a lot of $$ from my pocket when it needed anything but it was such a good car that it's still my number 1 car off all time.
First car i bought, was 2014, got me a clean 03’ 530i 20% tint all the way around, 100k miles for 10k. Ever since i was a kid i wanted a bmw. I grew up as poor as they come. I own 5 vehicles, and still my beloved 530i. 170k miles, it’s going to be my son’s first car when he’s older. Less than 10 years and she still rips with the 3.0. My favorite car. It’s an auto trans, want to swap it with a 4.4 and manual trans
Great video review of the e39 platform. Truly one of bmw’s greatest sport sedans. I think they’ve aged well. As an owner of 4 old bmws - 3 e39s =2000 M5 in anthracite gray metallic, 1997 540i sport 6sp in Oxford green metallic, 1998 base model 540i automatic in gold , a great all original rust free running car but has rebuilt title so it’s my parts car for the others and my most recent purchase was a garaged 1991 black 850i with the hard to find 6 speed manual. These old bmws (preferably with the manual gearbox) are really fun to drive. The chassis handling and balance always surprises me with how smooth and effortless they feel on winding roads and high speed sweeping turns. there’s still plenty of e39s out there. These are high maintenance cars - so if you dont have deep pockets get yourself a good set of tools and all the parts or diy info you’ll ever need is online.

I'm 26 and I just bought a 2003 E39 Touring MT with the diesel M47 motor, and I just keep loving it more every single day. The suspension is on par with any of today's S class or 7 series. Yes, it's not the fastest car on the road, but the torque of that motor is more than enough, and i'm averaging 4.5 - 5L/100km in this 21 year old car that weighs 1.7 tons (how crazy is that?????). It's the perfect car for road trips, the way the interior is designed (the seating, hand rest positions) is very well thought out. I put the 2nd row seats down, and I can easily sleep back there with a mattress. I'm gonna keep this car forever, and I intend to keep it on the road.
Drove an e39 540i Touring with manual(!!)) getrag6 transmission for a couple of years... best car I ever owned. Had to let it go when I got divorced ;) Fun fact: every e39 with 4.4 v8 actually made over 300hp on the dynamometer, had something to do with marketing (hp difference between the 840i and 850i)

The E39 has also superior build quality which lasts very long and is very harmfull in servicing and repairing. Good engines, stable tech around this car, and last but not least his way how this car rises high speeds is legendary. That all are reasons why the E39 is so great and loved. Me too! 😊

I own a 1997 e39 540i, one of the funnest cars I have ever driven, I have it on coil overs and with a custom cat back exhaust, one of the best bmws ever made in my opinion. Would take another one of these over a newer gen m5 and day
Did you say the E39 has handling issues ? You gotta be kidding, handling is this car's best attributes, the M5 when it came out was putting to shame sports cars on the skidpad and on race tracks. The weight and wheelbase have nothing to do with it not entering any races, since BMW races the M6 Gt3, which is heavier and has a longer wheelbase than an E39 M5. They race Bentley Continentals that we know are very heavy. I can't think of reason on why it wasn't entered, but then again, I do not know the regulations of the day, in which class an M5 could've fit in order to race. There have been a few hot cars in history that could not race because there was no class for them to fit in.
Slightly inaccurate information on weight. My 1997 528i has a curb weight of just 3450lb (1565kg) from factory. It’s actually very lightweight for a saloon car and handles quite well.
Does the e39 M5 handle poorly??? Not I'm my opinion. There's no easier care to predictably drift around a roundabout or any of the 90 degree turns on the way to my house. Simply the greatest car ever made!!!!

Sadly you didn't mention diesels, 530d is amazing car. It pulls nicely, has bulletproof engine and also doesn't consume much diesel.
not to mention m57 tuning reliability
I like the new editing
Same an editor did it
You should have talked about the diesel engines
I just got a 530i m sport around a month ago and I love it
Amazing editing man, love the new style. My subscriber vote for a 'what makes it great' would be the r129 SL500 Mercedes.
I had an E39 520i back in 1998, and although it was comfortable it certainly was not very fast despite a proven top speed of 220 km/h
The E39 is a true living legend I have 3 and in 2019 I found a 528i retired doctors car with only 69000 miles and I have it still today I have other cars but I love the 39 I cauld just like you talk all night about it
I own a 1997 e39 540i, one of the funnest cars I have ever driven, I have it on coil overs and with a custom cat back exhaust, one of the best bmws ever made in my opinion. Would take another one of these over a newer gen m5 and day
Yes, your spot on right. I have a late model M5 and it does not even compare to the e39 I used to own.
I had the same. 540i
Fan rusted and ripped through the alu bonnet.
Living in Christchurch rotting away
. 😢
Oh yeah ! I had 4 M5 e39 and still have 1 and it’s a beautiful machine
530i e39 is reliable and not slow 😂😂 best choise
I have an E39 530i m sport, 2002 model , it's the best car I've ever owned,
last reliable bmw ever made..... and best looking imo. they handle beautifully for such a big car.
I have a 1998 540i manual. It’s so fun to drive 😩
Tryna get a 540i myself, def sending this to mom and pop
The editing is great
YOU NEED TO DO A DEEP DIVE ON THE RX7FD
I knowww and ty bro
e39 530i owner for 4 years now, its reliability is insane. I just can't get myself to get rid of it.
I was hoping it wasn’t gonna suk, and it didn’t. Good video man I enjoyed it a lot. 👍🏼
could you review the bmw 3 series 325ci m sport 1998-2005 model plss
Im about to buy bmw , but what bmw shoud i buy , E38 or E39 , i had E46 , its good but i like classic shape car.
Fire vid man 👌🤩
Ty bro
Best sport sedan ever!
😂😂😂😂😂
Own a 540i myself in uk and i love it owned a 520i 535i now a 540i , M5 is next 😂
You forgot that E39 was one of the first cars to come with BMW's then all-new magnificent M57 common rail diesel.
my dad did exactly the same, he brought me at school with it
dope car would love to have one but i can say from experience a honda accord can chop one on a twisty road
Indeed buddy..
At 8:36 I dropped my phone when the car flipped and spilt my yogurt on my lap 😆😄 I was not expecting that flip 😂

The word you are looking for is innovative
I’ve had a 2002M5 for over 10 years and it’s a great handling car for a sedan. I don’t know why you’re saying it doesn’t?
Best car I ever owned.
BMW for life
Slightly inaccurate information on weight. My 1997 528i has a curb weight of just 3450lb (1565kg) from factory. It’s actually very lightweight for a saloon car and handles quite well.
nice intro mark legit 🔥👍
Thanks bro but an editor made it
Awesome video ! Thank you so much.. greetings from 🇸🇦
You also forgot the legendary M54. I have a 2001 530i and it’s pretty damn good. But good vid
You forgot to mention the canonball run in the e39 M5.
Omg u made this vid is so high quality, why dont u make a new vid every OTHER day but higher quality
Not me haha, I hired an editor I don’t have the skills for this sadly
Where do you find the cars under 10k for your other videos
im thinking about getting a e39 523i with m kit and getting rid of my e90 n47
Does the e39 M5 handle poorly??? Not I'm my opinion. There's no easier care to predictably drift around a roundabout or any of the 90 degree turns on the way to my house. Simply the greatest car ever made!!!!
Do a similar video about the E38. Its a car worth doing.
