      honestly if you're actually curious: gaming DAC/Amps are just about the same level as most of the newer motherboard. Invest in an actual dac and separate amp with a real headphone from Sennheiser or Drop (HD58x is my favorite with shiit magni+modi)

      @@epsi9923 TH-cam compresses to 192 kbps (at 1080p) which is more then enough. It is most definitely not hifi quality. But that should not matter when you're recording with a 50-150 dollar mic. Having said that most importantly the sound characteristics for example the mic not having an echo/the sound being fuller is purely caused by his studio setup which due to the acoustic panels etc improve sound quality more then compression matters. People have a hard time distingishing between 192 kbps and uncompressed for example. It is possible with an high-end setup. But why use a high-end setup to listen to low end microphone comparisons to find the most detail in a microphone. Then you should be looking at high-end microphones

  • @Aeysir
    @Aeysir 3 ปีที่แล้ว +35

    @18:30 You have the Blaster X G6 as having no mic volume adjustment; it does, you hold-push the volume control to cycle through headphone and mic options. If you are using the G6 with a console it also offers additional mix options on that button (all colour coded with the LED ring). Make sure the firmware is updated to the most recent version.

    @Truster18 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Hey @randomfrankp,
    with the ALC1220 Audiochip in "newer" Motherboards, Port-D (Front Panel Audio and Mic) is actually preferred.
    With ALC1220 the Front Panel Mic Connector has better signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). 120 dB to 110 from the 1200. It also comes with impedence Detection.
    This headphone amplifier at port D has a high output voltage of up to 2.1 Vrms and can drive high impedance headphones (up to 600 Ω), which is not possible with the ALC1200.
    TlDr; if u have a Motherboard with ALC1220 Audiochip, Front Panel is probably better, espacially if u have high Impedance headphones.

    • @eukariootti1
      @eukariootti1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In practice, those dB's in the brochures are completely meaningless BS.
      In reality, none of those chips meant for the Integrated audio are actually great.
      My motherboard (Asus X570-E) has ALC1220. In practice, with my case (Fractal Design R6) and its stock cable, Front Panel Headphone jack is unusable. Insulated cable might've helped for the horrible buzz, but I didn't bother.
      If cable is needed due to latency, I always use Optical Out, from my motherboard to the AV Receiver. Works as intended.
      Luckily, most of the time I use Bluetooth 5.0 integrated on that motherboard (Intel AX200). It too works as expected, including too much latency for many Gamers.
      Realtek SW is carbage. Windows 11 seems to create some extra challenges.
      In the future I might buy a real sound card, external propably. Perhaps G6, perhaps something else.

    I am personally looking for a dac\amp to up my audio game, this video was of great help.
    I have done some research on the soundBlasterX and wanted to correct one little thing in this video, you actually can adjust the mic volume using the volume wheel. hold the volume wheel until the light turns red.

    Man I ordered a schiit fulla like 3 months ago. They have been back ordered for so long, but its worth noting the fulla is an audiophile grade dac, it will sound better with higher end headphones opposed to gaming headsets.
    There's also the Schiit Hel at about 180 that's a massive step up from the fulla.

      Just to add: The Hel is a different tier and will require wall power, but can drive a lot more headphones. It’s just not as clean as a one cable setup for power and data, and takes up more space on a desk.

    I own the g6. I'm a little disappointed with the g6 review's inaccuracies. You CAN adjust the microphone volume with the volume knob. Also, the microphone sample rate can go as high as 32-bit 192khz. I'm running it with a AKG-K7XX and a Modmic 5. People comment on how great the mic quality is on Discord and Gaming with it has been an absolute dream. The EQ settings are endless. It's definitely a hidden gem.

    I'm surprised at the number of people who don't use an amp or DAC. I will never go back after using an Amp + DAC. The GSX is cool and a very nice looking one. It's a little overpriced for it being one of the most underpowered compared to the others you mentioned. My G6 can drive anything that I throw at it. However, I find software and buttons to be overwhelming. I've been using it the longest so I do like it, but it's just hard to try to get the best balance for music, then gaming etc. The Schiit fulla is so straight forward, small, looks cool, and meets all my most important basic needs. If I had to select one for a new user it would be the Fulla 3.

    GSX has the two devices showing in sound devices as one is for the game/main audio ('speakers') and the other is for voice comms ('headset') as it doesn't get any of the processing on the voice audio. had the GSX but upgraded to a Schiit Hel, overall quality is much improved, especially the poor GSX mic audio.

  • @gooberdz
    @gooberdz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    As a G6 user for the past year, I felt that the recommendations were a little lacking in providing enough information of what distinguishes the products. To classify this as "no software" required is not truly representing the product for it's features. These are for PC right? So why omit the software? The customization available on the G6 is incredible with software, and it can push out a significant amount of power to drive the higher end headphones compared to the other products, not to mention further compatibility with all consoles. Furthermore, if these are for the PC, why wasn’t software discussed? Overall I think the basis of the recommendations for audio barely scratches the surface of what makes the products unique from each other. There’s nothing wrong with the recommendations, but just felt that you had limited time to cover everything, and you left out some important information as a result of it.

    Frank, good reviews! I have also mixed and matched a lot of Amp/Dac combos. If you get a chance try running the 5.1 optical output of the G6 in speaker mode of course into the TR mixamp and try the Surround that way. I find in a lot of PC games it does a better job of virtual surround sound than the SBX or the TR's usb version for some reason. Not sure why or it is a placebo? I have tried this with the PC38x, TyGR 300s and the A40 and a few others. You are limited to which headphones due to the TR's low Impedance requirements.
    Also in your review you might Specify which games you used for testing sense the sound design for each game has such a great impact on stereo versus surround. Thanks and good job!
