    Some of the hate comments in this thread illustrate what’s wrong with the music industry particularly the guitar community. I grew up in a relatively working class suburb in the 1970’s. There was not a lot of money around and good guitars,any guitars( which I was and still am obsessed with) we’re not easy to acquire. The comments that say there’s nothing special there in that collection reflect a jaded arrogance. If you don’t think they are special go off and watch Trogly’s videos where you can get all the hard-ons you want.

      Don't scratch yourself with stupid comments. It's the bad part of social media. The only thing that makes me curious is to understand why someone with a collection like this and who talks about it with so much passion and knowledge, decides to sell it. But I know the answer is none of my business.
      There are real gems there. For me, every guitar is. Even the cheapest and broken one if you allow me to fix it. I don't want to be unfair to girls. But somehow a guitar is like a woman. You have to get to know her, treat her well and maybe you can get her to trust you with her secrets and stay by your side... Best regards !

    Nice to see someone who isn't blinded by brand names and has a very eclectic collection like myself. I buy mostly preowned instruments and because I stopped shopping because of the brand or high priced options I have a big collection of some great guitars people would thumb their nose at. I have bought inexpensive guitar that have expensive pick ups where just one of the pick ups cost more that the guitar cost me. I saw a few Fierflys in the mix and the two I bought were pretty bad. I can see why he would modify and tweak those. They look pretty good but the pick ups and electronics are really poor. If you were local to me i would be stopping by to get a look at these in person. My local shops usually call me to let me know they bought a certain guitar or collection. I have done well with a lot of off brand guitars and plenty of inexpensive big brand names.

      Modding guitars for personalization, like paint job, specific colored hardware, adding kill switch, removing tone knobs, only having a single volume or going apeshit like bc rich is reasonable modding. But pickups do jack shit for your guitars. Upgrade those shitty Amp speakers first. Makes a huge difference.

    • @dethangel88
      @dethangel88 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@danielsguitaranddemos You're talking to me like I've never modded a guitar before. From my own personal experience, I hear the difference ever so slightly. You're telling me for a "Slight" difference it's worth $200-$400? Don't think so pal. But if it makes you happy, the scheme will be your dream.

      @@dethangel88 In my own personal opinion changing from $200 guitar pickups to a Gibson pup is a BIG change. Even if it's only 490r and 490t. Those are way better than a firefly or other what's a name guitar. Now your point of changing from the 490's to a S D or EMG set ya I definitely agree not worth it. As a matter of fact I bought my L P studio with 496/500 pups in it. I wanted those pups w/o daily use and had to mod my playing to daily use them. Not change them. That's what I wanted and not that hard to live with since it's my hard rock guitar compared to my all around guitar a 3 color L Sensors equipped Strat. That can rock but not as easily as the Paul.

    • @dethangel88
      @dethangel88 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@sparkyguitar0058 I suppose you make a decent point on that. I don't really like buying the off brand. I guess for me it's Jackson, LTD/ESP, or Ibanez. They all make good products, even on their lower models. So I can't speak from that perspective. I used to be a huge "Tone Chaser" but found out I was looking in the wrong places. Awesome collection. A lot of it was described as "nothing special". But let's face it, any of us that buy a guitar, if the bond happens, it becomes special. Regardless of whether it's a FireFly, a Squier Bullet, Epiphone, Jay Turser or that guitar that was screwed together with deck screws. Of course that last deck screw instrument is pretty much worthless as a resale, perhaps even the parts to someone unless they know how well the parts sound or work to hold tune. I have nothing special Chinese sealed tuners that to some, are nothing but junk. But I string up the guitar, tune it and they stay tuned for days & weeks even. If the strings detune, it's generally because a weather front changed & the wood reacted to a humidity & temperature change that was drastic enough. My favorite save is a $ 25 2005 Squier Bullet SSS HT that has a couple of small dents near the skunk stripe. That Strat stays in tune as well as any Telecaster I've ever owned, Teles are legendary for being in tune long after their last session. he Bullet being a HT doesn't drift out of tune by much, just like the Teles. That Bullet was shimmed, toothpicked & glued together. It's as solid as a new one would be made of fresh lumber, screws won't loosen, which I couldn't say was the case when I bought it in a parking lot for a few days/meals worth of groceries for the seller.

    I appreciate the guy is passionate and knows his pickups. There is a temptation out there to buy inexpensive guitars as there are so many around it can be fun to have some projects. But also there is no question the market is flooded with cheap stuff (not just guitars) but also headphones\interfaces\microphones. USB microphones lol. So many its a bit sad.

      It always was and the only way to change it now is to either lower American wages, improve the quality of the instruments and sell more in countries with a higher average wage, or campaign to get the Koreans/Chinese/Indonesians etc to pay their workers more.

      I only wish I could have been able to buy one of today's so called low end but inexpensive guitars back in the 70's. What a score it would have been to play a Harley Benton quality guitar back in them days. It's all relevant and man they are light years ahead of where we used to be. This is what competition in the industry does.....it makes manufacturers work harder and keep prices low so even when we were kids we could afford to get in the game and get better.

    I'm a retired pro blues guitarist in the L.A. area of Southern California. I've run into cats like this seller a number of times over the years. All of these inexpensive instruments were guitar PROJECTS for the dude. Never a mind as to whether or not he'd recoup his money as that was never the goal. Many of the collection are way cool looking and that amused him. So be it... everyone should have a hobby. Modifying these instruments was his hobby.
    As many others have asked, are the pickups "really" what he says they are? Only way to tell is to pull them out and validate what they are. I saw no write-ups, no notes on his phone, just the guy's memory for each instrument. All of these are, more or less, worth very little. I wouldn't give you .02 for any of the amps... but he sure knows how to talk them up. What a salesman he'd make! 👍
    I'm surprised you bought all this stuff. If you made him a lo-ball offer and he went for it, then you may make some dough on this stuff. It will likely take you a year or two to recoup your investment unless you have other means of selling them off. I'm sure you're a savvy businessman so I'll leave it at that.
    I not only play but appreciate fine instruments and invest in them. I recently bought a used Gibson ES-175 (I do some jazz material, too) and a new Les Paul Custom. I'm thinking of picking up a Gibson L-5. These are instruments that are like putting money in the bank. Different goals for different souls.... Too bad the seller didn't have another "hobby" and could have got himself some worthy, time-worn instruments. Again, that was never his goal, now was it?? Peace, Love, and Bobby Sherman. 😉🙂

    A real mix of trash and what could be pearls for the right person-some of the Squiers and Ibanez models are good guitars. An awful lot of wood wasted though, which could have made superior instruments. The principle of collecting 47 cheap guitars instead of 4-5 really good ones I don't get at all, but to each his own I guess. When I see collections of this size I do wonder how many were ever played regularly and used to make actual music.

    Recently I bought a Schecter Hellraiser FR from a guy that has at least 60 Ibanez electric guitars, lining the walls of his man cave. Every single one of them is cleaned regularly, they're all set up ready to go with new strings, intonation done, necks adjusted, actions perfect, all done by this guy who loves Ibanez guitars, but doesn't play. At all. He just collects guitars, sets them up, sells a few every now and then so he can add more Ibanez's to his collection. The set up on the Schecter was perfect, and it plays awesomely. 13:21

    Years ago we maybe thought some of the brands were pretty bad. Sanox, TCM, Vantage to name a few. Even some known brands like BC Rich imports Platinum series had 'plywood' bodies. Until The Japanese Charvels and Ibanez RGs began showing up. Then suddenly everyone started improving while expensive brands started failing. There seems to be better inexpensive stuff today than before but there is also just way more cheap (and pretty bad) average stuff showing up. Maybe because of online shopping? My local used shop wont take anything valued less than $400 CAD.

    Kudos to him for selling them and able to move on from a hobby. I somehow couldn't sell mine because it's sort of one of those sentimental pieces and moments where most of the time I tear them apart and then put them back again with modding the pickups, putting on a neck, upgrading to locking tuners. With all the time I consumed on modding and sacrificing parts, I don't see myself selling them so soon. Hopefully I can pass my guitars to my kids in the future.

    The 50'th Anniversary Fender , Squire Strat's have the same body dimensions as a Standard Fender Strat. Lot's of the Squires, their bodies are thinner, but not with the NC's.

    • @deandee8082
      @deandee8082 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      wrong NC's tho, they made 2 styles, ones that had 60's style necks on them make up 5% of the production and ones that have the truss rod adjust at the headstock that make up 95%.. neither of those are the collectable NC's . . . they will make an OK strat platform depending on the tone of the wood and you can always toss a 60's neck on them or whatever neck you prefer, you can buy roasted stat necks for like $200 today, even vintage style.. couple humbuckers, upgrade the hardware so forth and have a less expensive Charvel San Dimas like axe, as with any production made guitar they're made by grabbing whatever body and neck is next in line, generally you will get a junk body and a junk neck, occasionally a good body junk neck or a junk body and good neck, its when you get the good body and good neck together is when the music starts...

Sorry, a shitty playing guitar can have original PAF's in it but it's still going to be a shitty guitar. I'd be shocked if Zimm gave him more than $3000 for everything.
