Brilliant! Removed the black and white wire socket from the connector and it fired right up. Less then 10 hours on this six month old 125cc quad and I'm pretty sure it's gonna trace back to a defective kill switch assembly. One interesting note about my particular issue was the quad would fire up and stay running if I held the starter motor switch down. Kinda rough on the starter though. lol Thanks for breaking down CDI systems in such a simple and clear video. I'm a better man and the world is a better place thanks to your work. ~Rich

Picked up a little China quad for my son, couldn’t figure out why it wasn’t getting spark, narrowed it down to the black and white wire on the cdi box but wasn’t sure what that wire went to, or if it was supposed to be supplied power or ground, found your video and it was super helpful, thanks!
I just bought a new 125cc with same wiring, funny it hasn't changed in YEARS. I bought for son, it started up for 5 minutes, I ran it around and then turned it off. Never turned back on again, I don't have spark either. I took out spark plug, put against the frame to ground and cranked it - nothing. What a pain in the booty.....I wish I knew what was wrong but this vid gives me some things to check! Hopefully If I fix it I'll be back to let you know!

Ive replaced every component related to spark on this P.O.S linhai 260 ATV. I cut the kill switch wire to CDI. Ive gone through all wires and connections to make sure i didnt have a short, cut, pinch or missing insulation. My CDI is an 8 pin with 5 wires, 4 wires on the bottom with the top being my ground. This is the only video I've been able to find that shows a way to "test" the CDI. I was told China's quality control with electrical components wasnt the greatest and they may have sent me a bad one. IDK if that's true or not but im about to find out. That is, as long as im not being played via this video with the "April fools" intro, even though it was uploaded on the 2nd.
Hey Roger, a few things, first of all, the Linhai 260 ATV is the worse ATV that I have ever worked on, it has the most complicated wiring and is built from the worse electrical components.... I basically rewired the machine, I took 12vdc from the key switch, ran it to the left handle bar switches, I'm using the left handle bar switches to turn on and off a 12VDC powered CDI system that allows the engine to run.... Thanks to one of your videos I was able to finally get spark but for some reason still can't get it to fire up it's a 125cc semi automatic quad bike with electric start no kick start no clutch just neutral frowards and reverse I tried to push start it but it didn't want to move under its own power my brother and I also tried it in reverse and it started up for a lil bit but as soon as we let the throttle go it stopped running I can't seem to figure out whats wrong with it I have spark fuel and air it just won't go I do know it needs a new carby but even then I'm not sure it'll go once I replace the carby as there's thick white smoke blowing from the exhaust system the oil in it was really dark and didn't smell too good so I changed the oil I didn't flush it and make sure it was fully cleaned but that shouldn't really matter it should still be able to fire up even with old oil however the oil that came out of it was a bit more liquid like I'm mnot sure how to tell if it may be water or not any help greatly appreciated please and thank you I just don't want to be wasting a ton of money on it for it to never run I'm not rich sadly and it takes me a lil bit just to save for one single part even if it's only $30

Should there be 12 volts going to any of the ignition components with the ignition on? I can't find any 12 volts going to any of mine. Battery good and fuse good. Starter spins over good and fast, can't find 12 volts going to anything.
thanks for post helped me my plug had no spark and turn out the harness was bad and splitting the white black wire in middle worked and it craked right up. that was on the CDI unit I needed to cut wire and fix the loose wires. I left wire disconnected anyways because I can choke it out or reconnect wire. now it shuts down when I let off gas when running any ideas email me please whould be best I have trouble getting to internet outside my phone which is limited

Harvey I have a coolster 110 atv. had no spark, removed the safety wire (black/white) from the cdi and it started. so obviously I have a closed circuit somewhere, so my question is what do I look for? I took the kill switch apart and it looks fine. I would just leave it disconnected but then the kill switch, key, and push start button wouldn't work. any ideas on what I should check first? thank you your video did help me diagnose the problem 👍
Hey Anthony!!! Hook the wire back up, then disconnect the green wire on the back of the key switch, if the atv starts, it is the key switch, if it doe not, hook it back up and disconnect the green wire from the left handle car switch, it should start, if not, there must be a short in the harness.... so if I did that that would tell me I have a bad ground or faulty part? funny part is I am a union commercial/industrial electrician but smaller low volt wiring confuses me, even though the principles are somewhat the same. 🤔
Hey Anthony, In order of what I would expect to find, the left handle bar switch would be my first suspect, then the key switch, and then the wire harness.... Wire harness issues can be hardest to find, what U R looking for is a short some place, in the key switch, handle bar switch, or from the wire harness to ground.... I just got a 90 Baja atv. The kid that I bought it from ripped apart the ignition where now it's just left with the wires that used to go to the key I hooked up the black and the red wire up and it cranks over I have spark I have new fuel in it because it did sit for a long time and also The carburetor I just cleaned but it's cranking and it has spark and it has fuel and it has compression but it won't fire. Another wire I have to look up or any suggestions

I find your videos very helpful but I have a project that I just can't seem to figure out, I have a 90cc Chinese quad that keeps shorting out stators,grand daughters where riding it shut it off won't start since replaced stator had no resistance on black and red tried starting no spark check resistance again none. Got another stator checked resistance prior had 39 ohms installed tried starting no spark checked resistance again and none myself and my two friends are baffled as to why hoping you may have an answer
Thanks for the videos Harvey. I've always struggled with wiring but I'm digging in and trying to learn more lately. Recently purchased a running/riding 250cc TaoTao. Manual hand clutch, 4speed w/reverse. I've torn it down to safety check all the bolts, wiring etc and learning as I go. Even though the current wiring is apparently functioning it has been hacked on a lot and I was considering just doing a complete wiring harness and electrics change with one of those inexpensive e-bay kits to tidy things up. One question-my voltage regulator has 5 wires coming out of it and the ones for sale seem to have 4. Mine has a black wire in addition to the typical red, green, yellow and pink. Can I use the 4 wire voltage regulator without causing problems. Also my current wiring seems to have an abundance of ground wires coming from practically every appendage of the quad twisted together in clumps and soldered. Probably 8-10 individual green ground wires (including 2 from the CDI). Is this normal or did the hacker go overboard? Is there such a thing as having too many ground wires? Thanks!
Hi Harvey I am currently trying to sort our the ignition on an old 70cc China quad. The electrical system is also fitted with a VUN BA which I understand is a remote cut-off system. I have recently purchased the wiring loom harness that you recommenced can I just disconnect the VUN BA unit, will the ATV run without it. Many thanks for your help.....Col
I have a diamo tornado 200 atv and I can't seem to get spark and it has the original wiring harness and it cranks over just fine but it has a 6 point plug that's not hooked up to anything and I'm not sure what it was plugged into

Can I make one run without a cdi ? It has kick start and I normally don't work on these so it's kinda a new thing but I don't need it to run long just want to make sure engine will run before I go puting to much time in it
On my china quad i replaced the CDI and i have a really good spark (i can hold it from the engine 3/4") and my carberator is producing fumes i can light a match at the exhaust and it'll make a pop but my engine won't run. The engine has about 110 pounds of compression, if you can help diagnose the problem please comment.
Hi Harvey. I got a China quad linhei 260. At least that is what I think it is. All of the wiring is jacked up. The starter solenoid is junk, I can’t get anything from the CDI, no spark at all. Do you know of a kit that comes with new everything. I have found some online but the cdi does not look like what I have. Can you help?
Had to wait to almost 11min but just wanted to see a video on how you would go about a no spark situation. Nice to see and good info but if your looking for another video idea then do one on walking up to the atv and check by check (w meter in hand) and do each step you describe in this. By no means hating on you because you provide so much information and im thankful for that but you would also get alot of views on a simple (thru your mindset) on checking a no spark situation. If you already have one then disregard what im saying and i apologize. Again thanks for all your info and insight. Take care
My ATV is a taotao 125 made in 2011 it doesn’t have a black/white in the center it’s on the corner and the only power going to the cdi is a black wire that’s in the center below the blue and inside it has no post so no power to the cdi cranks but doesn’t run do you have any suggestions thanks in advance for any and all help
Harvey I have a 2001 Kasea Skyhawk 50cc that stalls everytime I plug the black and white wire into the CDI. I want to be able to use the electric start, currently unable to and have to use kick start only. To shut it off I disconnect the rear safety, the front one does nothing so I am thinking it is a problem in the wiring in the switch assembly that has the push start. I changed the wiring harness and CDI thinking it was one of those and the problem still exists. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Hello Harvey, I am having a problem with a Yamaha Bear Tracker 250 which has a CDI with a single 8 pin connector. I need to know where the pulse wires and the charge wires connect. It appears that the top left is unused, the bottom left goes to the Ignition coil and there are a total of 7 wires that went to the harness connector which is missing. I have a new connector but need to know what wires go to which pin on the CDI. I have searched the web and can not find a pin out of this CDI so anything you can offer will be appreciated.
I have a question. Ive viewed quite a few of your videos hoping for direction with my issue. I ordered wiring harnass like you have. My issue is I have 3 yellow wires 1blue 1 green. So I dont know where my black/red wire would go? Do I need to order a different harnass? If so what kind?
Thanks for your video! It's given me a push to try again with my son's quad. It's a 110 chinese quad. I think I've disengaged all the kill switches...I believe the dumb thing has 4 of them - the key, the tether on the back under the seat, a remote kill, and the one on the handle bars. Question for you about that. If I have spark, does that mean that all of the kill switches are disabled? I do see spark when I attempt to start it.
Hey JC, If U have a consistent spark, all the kill switches have need disabled, give it a little hoot of starting fluid and see if it starts, it may need a carb clean, it seems like whenever I go near one of these China quads or pit bikes, it needs a carb clean.... Thanks Harvey. Quad is running again. So many kill switches - but thanks to you I knew which wire to pull from CDI. After spraying some starter into carb, it l started right up, but the OEM carb was not well. I opted to buy a eBay carb since the it was only $16 shipped. It fires right up now. Son has been loving it - a bit too much in that he got pulled over on day 2 for riding it on the street in our neighborhood. Cop was cool and didn't cite him, so no harm. I'm thinking I'm going to sell it and parlay that into a 80's Honda 200 3-wheeler - seen several for few hundred locally.

This is for a 5 wire setup . Do you have a video that has the DC style 4-wire setup ? Need to bypass the kill switches/neutral safety switch in order to find a NO spark condition.

Harvey Spooner it's a 110cc china quad motor I bought used . There was no carb or harness just the 5 wires coming from the stator . So I bought a full harness from eBay I didn't know how to hook it up cause they never give instructions . So I've watched most all ur vids and understood the basics of it . So I cut off the white/black wire from the cdi so there's no switch or circuit to worry about . Like u said in your vid. I have all the grounds linked together one from coil pack one from the volt regulator one from the cdi and a ground from the stator . I have the blue/white wire from cdi hooked to the blue/white wire from stator . And the black/red wire hooked up also . The yellow and white wires from the volt reg I have hooked to the stator . The yellow/black wire from the cdi to the coil pack. And I have a wire from the starter positive to the positive from the volt reg hooked to together with a fuse holder . And I have one extra ground from the block to the link of grounds . So two grounds off the block to the grounds on the harness . I'm trying to start it while the motor is sitting on my porch deck .

Well I have 3 wires coming out of my stator on my 97 CR 125. A brown and a white in one connector and a blue on a single pin connector . Which one do I hook the blue CDI wire up to and which one is a ground coming off the stater? I have the cool flashing red/ yellow on my power probe but I have no spark with a brand new coil. Why would the cool not fire if it has pulse? And how many of the stater wires do I need to hook up?
I have a 2005 yamoto 200cc that is missing one wire in the harness the key switch has 3 wires (red, black, black red stripe) coming off it to the plug but the wiring harness only has 2 from the plug(red , black) into the harness, what should the black with red stripe wire got to?
IS THERE ANY WAY TO BYPASS A cdi ON A KAWASAKIE MULE 2002. NUMBER 2 FIRES BUT NUMBER 1 DOEST . CANT AFFORD A NEW ONE AND CANT FIND A USED ONE.? THE CDI on it has a burnt hole in it so i know its bad..
Harvey, live the channel. I bought a little kasea 50cc 2 stroke for $25 hoping to get it going for cheap so my son and I can ride together. The wiring is hacked up on it. Any chance I could put one of the cheap chinese kits with a new stator on it? the original stator (D1E41QMB) sells for $30-$50 but then I can't find a 4 pin CDI to go with it. I'd like to just replace it all considering the hack job done by the P.O. HELP!
I have a 97 Artic Cat Bearcat 454 No Spark at all by cranking it. Do u have a video on this type of bike that i could watch and use to somehow get fire/spark. I cant afford to by one so i need help... Could u also send me the color codes and where they go etc. I would appreciate it. Note wheeler has been setting for almost a yr. Its getting fuel though. Hey Kevin, I have no experience with Artic Cat stuff, but, maybe with some back round info, I can help U.... So, it ran fine, it was parked for a year and the spark was lost or there are a few steps in there involving a hacked wire harness, a lost key, a dead battery, and etc.... `Right ran fine parked a yr no no spark. Has Key and push button start works with good battery but no spark. Has good compression... I appreciate your reply...
Hey Kevin, I sniffed around and did not find wiring diagrams for it, but, from the ebay images, it appears that U have a standard, Honda like, CDI trigger, also, from the appearance of the stator, I think Ur CDI is powered by the battery, I would start by checking the fuses and all the connections and grounds looking for corrosion, look around where the battery is and under the seat where a mouse may have chewed thru.... If I found nothing, I would get it running on a portable 12VDC ignition system, do U live anywhere near the Hudson Valley of NY??? Thanks for asking, watching, and commenting!!!
Hey Harvey The guy stopped buy again trying to trade me that Artic Cat. I really want the 4 wheeler but im afraid i cant get it running and if not i am screwed because the 4 wheeler i have now is my only means of transportation but hes made the deal even sweeter so im thinking i will trade. With some help i think i can fix it. Can you send me the infor. on how to hook up a 12VDC igmition system . All help would be appreciated. You can also call me if you can or will .606 653 3519 I think i will be trading 2morrow. I know if i can get it running i will have a much better 4 wheeler than ive got which is a 300 Suz. King Quad but has some issures such as oil leaks warp and bad bearing where your yoke goes in you rearend. Got a pretty bad wobble at low end. Ive replaced everything that it might be and it still does it. Ive already had to replace univ. yoke and drive shaft. wollered yoke uni holes out. Still does it. So it will do this one too due time. Got play in driveshaft/yoke. Like i said it has some issues but it does start and run. So ... Anyway If i can get this one to fire i think it will run. I need some help man . Dont know much about 4 wheeler but i can learn. Thanks

Hey. So I cut the black and white wire and hit the positive with a 12v battery. Still nothing. However jump the solenoid by touching with a screwdriver it cranks and has spark. So not sure why it won't without jumping the solenoid with a screw driver

I just put a new wire harness on an eton 150 cc .It came with all new stator ,pulse gen ,volt reg cdi and coil .I was very careful installing it but I still have no spark .Any suggestions
Hey bud ive asked you a bunch of questions about these two cgina quads I have but one inpiticular one a taotao 110b was just running great. Well I parked it thr next day it woyldnt start. I replaced the cdi ignition module. Starter cylanoid key switch batt. And now it is turning over but only getting a spark every now and then. I jumped it from the starter gets great fire. So I put the plug back in tried to start it to ride it and it started right up no ether or carb cleaner but spit popped and cut right back off. Why would my jump box on yhe starter cause it to fire and start but from the batt. It is a spark every 20 sec. Is that why it dies as soon as I take the jump box off.. Ive got hours in this thing and dnt want to hack up the harness because it is fine. Should I. Cut the blk and white wire on the cdi? Would it get better spark? Plz help

Hey Luke!!!! I had a friend who used to test spark coils with a 9V battery, (I don't recommend it as a good battery may provide enough current to damage the primary coil), anyway, the 9V battery was able to provide a weak spark on a good coil,. Assuming that U could measure the voltage drop across the primary of the ignition coil, I would expect a really short pulse with an amplitude around 30V.... I think the Voltage could be measured with an oscilloscope, I have had no luck using a digital volt meter.... I hope this helped.... Thanks for asking, watching, and commenting!!!!

Hey harvey trying to stop my battery from sparking everytime i touch the positive wire to the battery. everytime it touches it starts to crank but i want it through the electric start button i dont want to have to hot wire it everytime any info on this would be greatly appreciated thanks
Hey Camron, The quad is 100% complete and the wire harness is intact????? Sounds to me that Ur starting solenoid is stuck or is being picked because there is an issue with the starter button circuit.... I hope this helps, thanks for asking, watching, and commenting!!!

Please help with a ?. I just bought (as far as I know) a 2005 49cc mini Harley. I didn't notice at the time of purchase that a lot of the wiring that I would expect to be there was missing. I do however have spark without a battery in it. Will it run with new gas mix without a battery?

I'm trying to figure out how to wire a cdi into a 2007 can am ds250. It's a DC cdi. The dealer cost for that cdi is over $200. I've seen other cdi's that look exactly like it for $20. It's an old beat up quad but it's still good. I'm wondering if anyone can help me with a wiring diagram for the ds250, possibly which brand of cdi to use and really any help will do. Honda TRX90 Sportrax 93-05 cdi looks identical.

Iv a kazuma 50cc wires are a mess I managed to wire it up turns out starter was bad now iv installed a new one and it Bearley turns over? It's semi auto so I put it in second gear and try jump start it iv no spark but all my wires are connected and someone previously removed the black and white off the cdi, it was ment to be 2months old but lying up for a while before I got it, any help to try sort it out
I have a china bike it apears to be a 125 i got it harness was cut to all beat so i removed it i have watch couple videos i am kinda stuck right now dont want to spend money on carb if i cant get it to at least fire up for couple seconds i have what i believe to be the cdi and what i believe to be a ignition controll mod where do the wires go what connect to the wires coming out of the case by the gear shifter there are two plugs that come out of there with about 5 to 6 wores each
hello I have a trakker dune buggy with a cf188 500cc motor I can't find a diagram for the wires to go to the cdi box it has 2 different plugs on the cdi but the plugs have been broken so the wires are just hanging there can you help me with this issue?

Hey Ammala, Interesting.... My 49cc scooters are 2 cycle and they don't bother with a triggered CDI box... The DR250 is a 4 cycle... It may run, but, giving the timing advance differences between the 2, it would probably kick back when trying to start it, I would probably go with the pit bike cdi system.... Hi. I've been trying all day to get my quad working. I have re wired all the wires directly to the different areas. However there is a green and white strip wire and I don't know what it's for. It goes out the Ecu and into the engine. Any ideas. I can't get a spark
Hey Tony, When one looks at the ecu, (CDI box), there should be the following wires going into it, stator or +12VDC, ground, ignition coil primary, pulse generator, and engine off... One should be able to follow the wires and eliminate most to figure out what is left... My guess is that is ground given the green and while, should be easy enough to test with an ohm meter, I hope this helped... Thanks for your thoughts, watching, and commenting!!!
Hey Zany Banin!!!! By elimination... Green is ground, blue and white does to the pulse generator, black and yellow goes to the spark coil primary, that means unless something is missing, it has to be power, either stator or 12volts.... Was wondering if you can help I wanna put a racing cdi in my Honda ped and the Cdis typically have 6 pins the block of 4 and and the block of 2 now my cdi wiring is the same but it also has an extra 4 block pin which is black, how can I work round this ???
Hey Hex, Any CDI needs a few inputs to get it to provide the output to Ur spark coil, first it needs a power source, AC from the stator or DC from a battery, secondly, it needs a timing signal from the engine, provided by the pulse generator, a ground to reference everything from. So, including the pin for output to the spark coil, only 4 pins are needed, now the question, what are all the other pins doing for a living???? Typically, they are interlocks to prevent the engine from starting or running should some condition not be met, sometimes they run dash lights, or, perhaps Ur CDI has something else built in like a voltage regulator.... Hi i have a kinroad roadster 250cc its a side by side go kart. It wont run it will fire up with starting fluid but dies within 2 seconds any ideas? ive tried a few things but havent solved the issue yet
Hey Josh!!! If anything starts on fluid and stalls out, I normally look at the carb first, if it has a drain on it, try draining out the gas, maybe there is water on the bottom of the bowl, if that is not the fix, I would rebuild or replace the carb.... Removed the black and white wire socket from the connector and it fired right up. Less then 10 hours on this six month old 125cc quad and I'm pretty sure it's gonna trace back to a defective kill switch assembly. One interesting note about my particular issue was the quad would fire up and stay running if I held the starter motor switch down. Kinda rough on the starter though. lol

Picked up a little China quad for my son, couldn’t figure out why it wasn’t getting spark, narrowed it down to the black and white wire on the cdi box but wasn’t sure what that wire went to, or if it was supposed to be supplied power or ground, found your video and it was super helpful, thanks!
I just bought a new 125cc with same wiring, funny it hasn't changed in YEARS. I bought for son, it started up for 5 minutes, I ran it around and then turned it off. Never turned back on again, I don't have spark either. I took out spark plug, put against the frame to ground and cranked it - nothing. What a pain in the booty.....I wish I knew what was wrong but this vid gives me some things to check! Hopefully If I fix it I'll be back to let you know!

Floated the black/white wire like you said and it fired right up. Kill switch doesn’t work anymore but that should be an easy fix.

Ive replaced every component related to spark on this P.O.S linhai 260 ATV. I cut the kill switch wire to CDI. Ive gone through all wires and connections to make sure i didnt have a short, cut, pinch or missing insulation. My CDI is an 8 pin with 5 wires, 4 wires on the bottom with the top being my ground. This is the only video I've been able to find that shows a way to "test" the CDI. I was told China's quality control with electrical components wasnt the greatest and they may have sent me a bad one. IDK if that's true or not but im about to find out. That is, as long as im not being played via this video with the "April fools" intro, even though it was uploaded on the 2nd.
Hey Roger, a few things, first of all, the Linhai 260 ATV is the worse ATV that I have ever worked on, it has the most complicated wiring and is built from the worse electrical components.... I basically rewired the machine, I took 12vdc from the key switch, ran it to the left handle bar switches, I'm using the left handle bar switches to turn on and off a 12VDC powered CDI system that allows the engine to run.... Thanks to one of your videos I was able to finally get spark but for some reason still can't get it to fire up it's a 125cc semi automatic quad bike with electric start no kick start no clutch just neutral frowards and reverse I tried to push start it but it didn't want to move under its own power my brother and I also tried it in reverse and it started up for a lil bit but as soon as we let the throttle go it stopped running I can't seem to figure out whats wrong with it I have spark fuel and air it just won't go I do know it needs a new carby but even then I'm not sure it'll go once I replace the carby as there's thick white smoke blowing from the exhaust system the oil in it was really dark and didn't smell too good so I changed the oil I didn't flush it and make sure it was fully cleaned but that shouldn't really matter it should still be able to fire up even with old oil however the oil that came out of it was a bit more liquid like I'm mnot sure how to tell if it may be water or not any help greatly appreciated please and thank you I just don't want to be wasting a ton of money on it for it to never run I'm not rich sadly and it takes me a lil bit just to save for one single part even if it's only $30

Should there be 12 volts going to any of the ignition components with the ignition on? I can't find any 12 volts going to any of mine. Battery good and fuse good. Starter spins over good and fast, can't find 12 volts going to anything.
thanks for post helped me my plug had no spark and turn out the harness was bad and splitting the white black wire in middle worked and it craked right up. that was on the CDI unit I needed to cut wire and fix the loose wires. I left wire disconnected anyways because I can choke it out or reconnect wire. now it shuts down when I let off gas when running any ideas email me please whould be best I have trouble getting to internet outside my phone which is limited

Harvey I have a coolster 110 atv. had no spark, removed the safety wire (black/white) from the cdi and it started. so obviously I have a closed circuit somewhere, so my question is what do I look for? I took the kill switch apart and it looks fine. I would just leave it disconnected but then the kill switch, key, and push start button wouldn't work. any ideas on what I should check first? thank you your video did help me diagnose the problem 👍
Hey Anthony!!! Hook the wire back up, then disconnect the green wire on the back of the key switch, if the atv starts, it is the key switch, if it doe not, hook it back up and disconnect the green wire from the left handle car switch, it should start, if not, there must be a short in the harness.... so if I did that that would tell me I have a bad ground or faulty part? funny part is I am a union commercial/industrial electrician but smaller low volt wiring confuses me, even though the principles are somewhat the same. 🤔
Hey Anthony, In order of what I would expect to find, the left handle bar switch would be my first suspect, then the key switch, and then the wire harness.... Wire harness issues can be hardest to find, what U R looking for is a short some place, in the key switch, handle bar switch, or from the wire harness to ground.... I just got a 90 Baja atv. The kid that I bought it from ripped apart the ignition where now it's just left with the wires that used to go to the key I hooked up the black and the red wire up and it cranks over I have spark I have new fuel in it because it did sit for a long time and also The carburetor I just cleaned but it's cranking and it has spark and it has fuel and it has compression but it won't fire. Another wire I have to look up or any suggestions

I find your videos very helpful but I have a project that I just can't seem to figure out, I have a 90cc Chinese quad that keeps shorting out stators,grand daughters where riding it shut it off won't start since replaced stator had no resistance on black and red tried starting no spark check resistance again none. Got another stator checked resistance prior had 39 ohms installed tried starting no spark checked resistance again and none myself and my two friends are baffled as to why hoping you may have an answer

Thanks for the videos Harvey. I've always struggled with wiring but I'm digging in and trying to learn more lately. Recently purchased a running/riding 250cc TaoTao. Manual hand clutch, 4speed w/reverse. I've torn it down to safety check all the bolts, wiring etc and learning as I go. Even though the current wiring is apparently functioning it has been hacked on a lot and I was considering just doing a complete wiring harness and electrics change with one of those inexpensive e-bay kits to tidy things up. One question-my voltage regulator has 5 wires coming out of it and the ones for sale seem to have 4. Mine has a black wire in addition to the typical red, green, yellow and pink. Can I use the 4 wire voltage regulator without causing problems. Also my current wiring seems to have an abundance of ground wires coming from practically every appendage of the quad twisted together in clumps and soldered. Probably 8-10 individual green ground wires (including 2 from the CDI). Is this normal or did the hacker go overboard? Is there such a thing as having too many ground wires? Thanks!
Hi Harvey I am currently trying to sort our the ignition on an old 70cc China quad. The electrical system is also fitted with a VUN BA which I understand is a remote cut-off system. Can I make one run without a cdi ? It has kick start and I normally don't work on these so it's kinda a new thing but I don't need it to run long just want to make sure engine will run before I go puting to much time in it
On my china quad i replaced the CDI and i have a really good spark (i can hold it from the engine 3/4") and my carberator is producing fumes i can light a match at the exhaust and it'll make a pop but my engine won't run. The engine has about 110 pounds of compression, if you can help diagnose the problem please comment.
Hi Harvey. I got a China quad linhei 260. At least that is what I think it is. All of the wiring is jacked up. The starter solenoid is junk, I can’t get anything from the CDI, no spark at all. Do you know of a kit that comes with new everything. I have found some online but the cdi does not look like what I have. Can you help?

Had to wait to almost 11min but just wanted to see a video on how you would go about a no spark situation. Nice to see and good info but if your looking for another video idea then do one on walking up to the atv and check by check (w meter in hand) and do each step you describe in this. By no means hating on you because you provide so much information and im thankful for that but you would also get alot of views on a simple (thru your mindset) on checking a no spark situation. My ATV is a taotao 125 made in 2011 it doesn’t have a black/white in the center it’s on the corner and the only power going to the cdi is a black wire that’s in the center below the blue and inside it has no post so no power to the cdi cranks but doesn’t run do you have any suggestions thanks in advance for any and all help

Harvey I have a 2001 Kasea Skyhawk 50cc that stalls everytime I plug the black and white wire into the CDI. I want to be able to use the electric start, currently unable to and have to use kick start only. To shut it off I disconnect the rear safety, the front one does nothing so I am thinking it is a problem in the wiring in the switch assembly that has the push start. I changed the wiring harness and CDI thinking it was one of those and the problem still exists. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Hello Harvey, I am having a problem with a Yamaha Bear Tracker 250 which has a CDI with a single 8 pin connector. I need to know where the pulse wires and the charge wires connect. It appears that the top left is unused, the bottom left goes to the Ignition coil and there are a total of 7 wires that went to the harness connector which is missing. I have a new connector but need to know what wires go to which pin on the CDI. I have searched the web and can not find a pin out of this CDI so anything you can offer will be appreciated.
I have a question. Ive viewed quite a few of your videos hoping for direction with my issue. I ordered wiring harnass like you have. My issue is I have 3 yellow wires 1blue 1 green. So I dont know where my black/red wire would go? Do I need to order a different harnass? If so what kind?

I think I've disengaged all the kill switches...I believe the dumb thing has 4 of them - the key, the tether on the back under the seat, a remote kill, and the one on the handle bars.
Question for you about that. If I have spark, does that mean that all of the kill switches are disabled?
I do see spark when I attempt to start it.
Hey JC, If U have a consistent spark, all the kill switches have need disabled, give it a little hoot of starting fluid and see if it starts, it may need a carb clean, it seems like whenever I go near one of these China quads or pit bikes, it needs a carb clean.... So many kill switches - but thanks to you I knew which wire to pull from CDI. After spraying some starter into carb, it l started right up, but the OEM carb was not well.
I opted to buy a eBay carb since the it was only $16 shipped.
It fires right up now. Son has been loving it - a bit too much in that he got pulled over on day 2 for riding it on the street in our neighborhood. Cop was cool and didn't cite him, so no harm.
I'm thinking I'm going to sell it and parlay that into a 80's Honda 200 3-wheeler - seen several for few hundred locally.

Harvey Spooner it's a 110cc china quad motor I bought used . There was no carb or harness just the 5 wires coming from the stator . So I bought a full harness from eBay I didn't know how to hook it up cause they never give instructions . So I've watched most all ur vids and understood the basics of it . So I cut off the white/black wire from the cdi so there's no switch or circuit to worry about . Like u said in your vid. I have all the grounds linked together one from coil pack one from the volt regulator one from the cdi and a ground from the stator . I have the blue/white wire from cdi hooked to the blue/white wire from stator . And the black/red wire hooked up also . The yellow and white wires from the volt reg I have hooked to the stator . The yellow/black wire from the cdi to the coil pack. And I have a wire from the starter positive to the positive from the volt reg hooked to together with a fuse holder . And I have one extra ground from the block to the link of grounds . So two grounds off the block to the grounds on the harness . I'm trying to start it while the motor is sitting on my porch deck .

Well I have 3 wires coming out of my stator on my 97 CR 125. A brown and a white in one connector and a blue on a single pin connector . Which one do I hook the blue CDI wire up to and which one is a ground coming off the stater? I have the cool flashing red/ yellow on my power probe but I have no spark with a brand new coil. Why would the cool not fire if it has pulse? And how many of the stater wires do I need to hook up?

IS THERE ANY WAY TO BYPASS A cdi ON A KAWASAKIE MULE 2002. NUMBER 2 FIRES BUT NUMBER 1 DOEST . CANT AFFORD A NEW ONE AND CANT FIND A USED ONE.? THE CDI on it has a burnt hole in it so i know its bad..

Harvey, live the channel. I bought a little kasea 50cc 2 stroke for $25 hoping to get it going for cheap so my son and I can ride together. The wiring is hacked up on it. Any chance I could put one of the cheap chinese kits with a new stator on it? the original stator (D1E41QMB) sells for $30-$50 but then I can't find a 4 pin CDI to go with it. I'd like to just replace it all considering the hack job done by the P.O. HELP!

So, it ran fine, it was parked for a year and the spark was lost or there are a few steps in there involving a hacked wire harness, a lost key, a dead battery, and etc.... Hey Kevin, I sniffed around and did not find wiring diagrams for it, but, from the ebay images, it appears that U have a standard, Honda like, CDI trigger, also, from the appearance of the stator, I think Ur CDI is powered by the battery, I would start by checking the fuses and all the connections and grounds looking for corrosion, look around where the battery is and under the seat where a mouse may have chewed thru.... If I found nothing, I would get it running on a portable 12VDC ignition system, do U live anywhere near the Hudson Valley of NY??? Thanks for asking, watching, and commenting!!!

King Quad but has some issures such as oil leaks warp and bad bearing where your yoke goes in you rearend. Got a pretty bad wobble at low end. Ive replaced everything that it might be and it still does it. Ive already had to replace univ. yoke and drive shaft. wollered yoke uni holes out. Still does it. So it will do this one too due time. Got play in driveshaft/yoke. Like i said it has some issues but it does start and run. So ... Anyway If i can get this one to fire i think it will run. I need some help man . Dont know much about 4 wheeler but i can learn. Thanks

Hey. So I cut the black and white wire and hit the positive with a 12v battery. Still nothing. However jump the solenoid by touching with a screwdriver it cranks and has spark.
So not sure why it won't without jumping the solenoid with a screw driver
I have tried cdi and voltage reg from this quad to another and it cranks and gives spark so I know they are all good
So shitty I have the same issue with a trx 250ex.. did you ever figure out the issue?
Hello... so black and white wire goes to kill switches? I think I have kill switches problem... would I toggle switch wired on the black and white wire work for a manual kill switch?

i have a 1988 kawasaki 300 bayou...when i push start it, it turns on but sounds like it slipping does not turn engine on...took side box off to see if sprocket came lose but everything looks good...what you think it is? please help
I just put a new wire harness on an eton 150 cc .It came with all new stator ,pulse gen ,volt reg cdi and coil .I was very careful installing it but I still have no spark .Any suggestions

Hey bud ive asked you a bunch of questions about these two cgina quads I have but one inpiticular one a taotao 110b was just running great. Well I parked it thr next day it woyldnt start. I replaced the cdi ignition module. Starter cylanoid key switch batt. And now it is turning over but only getting a spark every now and then. I jumped it from the starter gets great fire. So I put the plug back in tried to start it to ride it and it started right up no ether or carb cleaner but spit popped and cut right back off. Why would my jump box on yhe starter cause it to fire and start but from the batt. It is a spark every 20 sec. Is that why it dies as soon as I take the jump box off.. Ive got hours in this thing and dnt want to hack up the harness because it is fine. Should I. Cut the blk and white wire on the cdi? Would it get better spark? Plz help

Hey Luke!!!! I had a friend who used to test spark coils with a 9V battery, (I don't recommend it as a good battery may provide enough current to damage the primary coil), anyway, the 9V battery was able to provide a weak spark on a good coil,. Assuming that U could measure the voltage drop across the primary of the ignition coil, I would expect a really short pulse with an amplitude around 30V.... I think the Voltage could be measured with an oscilloscope, I have had no luck using a digital volt meter.... I hope this helped.... Thanks for asking, watching, and commenting!!!!

Hey harvey trying to stop my battery from sparking everytime i touch the positive wire to the battery. everytime it touches it starts to crank but i want it through the electric start button i dont want to have to hot wire it everytime any info on this would be greatly appreciated thanks
Hey Camron, The quad is 100% complete and the wire harness is intact????? Sounds to me that Ur starting solenoid is stuck or is being picked because there is an issue with the starter button circuit.... I hope this helps, thanks for asking, watching, and commenting!!!

Please help with a ?. I just bought (as far as I know) a 2005 49cc mini Harley. I didn't notice at the time of purchase that a lot of the wiring that I would expect to be there was missing. I do however have spark without a battery in it. Will it run with new gas mix without a battery?
Hey Brian, If U have spark, it should run, I would start with a fresh spark plug also, the OEM China plugs are weak at best, especially if the bike has sat around and may have been flooded a few times.... Thanks for asking, watching, and commenting!!!

I'm trying to figure out how to wire a cdi into a 2007 can am ds250. It's a DC cdi. The dealer cost for that cdi is over $200. I've seen other cdi's that look exactly like it for $20. It's an old beat up quad but it's still good. I'm wondering if anyone can help me with a wiring diagram for the ds250, possibly which brand of cdi to use and really any help will do. Honda TRX90 Sportrax 93-05 cdi looks identical.

Iv a kazuma 50cc wires are a mess I managed to wire it up turns out starter was bad now iv installed a new one and it Bearley turns over? It's semi auto so I put it in second gear and try jump start it iv no spark but all my wires are connected and someone previously removed the black and white off the cdi, it was ment to be 2months old but lying up for a while before I got it, any help to try sort it out

Hey Ammala, Interesting.... My 49cc scooters are 2 cycle and they don't bother with a triggered CDI box... The DR250 is a 4 cycle... It may run, but, giving the timing advance differences between the 2, it would probably kick back when trying to start it, I would probably go with the pit bike cdi system.... Hi. I've been trying all day to get my quad working. I have re wired all the wires directly to the different areas. However there is a green and white strip wire and I don't know what it's for. It goes out the Ecu and into the engine. Any ideas. I can't get a spark
Hey Tony, When one looks at the ecu, (CDI box), there should be the following wires going into it, stator or +12VDC, ground, ignition coil primary, pulse generator, and engine off... One should be able to follow the wires and eliminate most to figure out what is left... My guess is that is ground given the green and while, should be easy enough to test with an ohm meter, I hope this helped... Thanks for your thoughts, watching, and commenting!!!
if your cdi box has green, blue white, yellow black, and solid black,.( that's all the wires), . what is the black wire?
Hey Zany Banin!!!! By elimination... Green is ground, blue and white does to the pulse generator, black and yellow goes to the spark coil primary, that means unless something is missing, it has to be power, either stator or 12volts.... Was wondering if you can help I wanna put a racing cdi in my Honda ped and the Cdis typically have 6 pins the block of 4 and and the block of 2 now my cdi wiring is the same but it also has an extra 4 block pin which is black, how can I work round this ???
Hey Hex, Any CDI needs a few inputs to get it to provide the output to Ur spark coil, first it needs a power source, AC from the stator or DC from a battery, secondly, it needs a timing signal from the engine, provided by the pulse generator, a ground to reference everything from. So, including the pin for output to the spark coil, only 4 pins are needed, now the question, what are all the other pins doing for a living???? Typically, they are interlocks to prevent the engine from starting or running should some condition not be met, sometimes they run dash lights, or, perhaps Ur CDI has something else built in like a voltage regulator.... Hi i have a kinroad roadster 250cc its a side by side go kart. It wont run it will fire up with starting fluid but dies within 2 seconds any ideas? ive tried a few things but havent solved the issue yet
Hey Josh!!! If anything starts on fluid and stalls out, I normally look at the carb first, if it has a drain on it, try draining out the gas, maybe there is water on the bottom of the bowl, if that is not the fix, I would rebuild or replace the carb....
