- East Metropolitan Health Service (EMHS) has launched a mental health strategy that honours the value of partnering with people with first-hand lived experience.
Sandra Miller, EMHS Executive Director Safety, Quality and Consumer Engagement, said the EMHS Lived Experience Strategy was built on seven pillars to create a more empathetic care model.
"It's part of our long-term goal to embed, guide, support and expand lived experience engagement and participation within the planning, delivery and evaluation of our services," she said.
"Effective and meaningful partnerships with consumers, carers and families with lived experience is essential if improvements in mental health, alcohol and other drug outcomes are to be achieved. These people bring unique expertise, informed by their experiences of navigating the mental health system and the challenges of living with mental health conditions," Sandra added.
The next stage - implementing the strategy - will be a combined effort for clinical, administrative and support staff, and patients and families.
