I remember looking at them new in the showroom at our local Chevy dealer the day we bought a used 56 Bel-Air convertible. I'll never forget that experience My aunt had a 58 Biscayne, 6/stick. I always liked it. She traded it in on a 65 Chevelle also 6/stick, but not nearly as exciting as the 58.

My sister's friend sold me her 1958 Chevrolet Nomad Wagon in 1969. It was in really good shape for $100.00 It was tweo-toned with the bottom a copper
color and the upper/roof/tailgate were white. It had the 348-cu engine. What a car!

I remember our neighbor coming home in a new 1958 Chevrolet. It was a company car that was white and called the Del Rey. The car had a heater and a 6 cylinder engine. No radio or even automatic transmission. He was a serviceman for office machines and equipment and kept his tools and supplies in the trunk. I remember the next new company car he got was a 1962 station wagon with a 6 and three speed transmission. I guess they were reliable work vehicles as he put a lot of miles on them and they let him use the car for his personal use as he didn't have his own car and that saved him money. I miss those days as a kid in the 50s.

4-Door passed down to me at 15 (1965). Plenty of room. 348 4bl. Duals. Automatic. 10 MPG. Didn't care. Drove farm gas. Clock directly in front of passenger. Think mine was haunted. Clock hadn't worked in years. However on dates when date got into car it started keeping time. When I took her home it would stop running until next date night! Distant relative to Christine?

I remember these kinds of cars from when I was a teenager. They were build strong and very well designed. If you were to take this vehicle for rough road driving you would have to raise the suspension a number of inches, harden up the shocks and springs, and put on the proper tires. The only thing lacking for off road driving would be having 4X4 or 4WD for the drive train which would be a problem for going off road. On the city streets there should be no worry about the pot holes and speed bumps unless too deep for the vehicle road clearance. If you have to you can drive over the edge of an average height sidewalk if necessary and not worry. This car was built like a utility truck. My preference for this type of vehicle would be to have the Impala station wagon fully equipped. For city driving and going on country roads it would be close to being like a decent SUV type vehicle.

I bought 2 58 belairs 2 years ago to restore 1. After going thru the whole car (I love the style) I learned real fast how poorly cars were made back then. Death trap on wheels is what it is. I added lapbelts to mine since there were no seatbelts. I bought it because I'd never seen one before and was into muscle cars so I wanted it for its 1 year only style. It's a boat to say the least. I dropped a 68 396 bbc in it with 700r4 and it rolls down the road just fine. I had to make some brackets for the front seat to move back farther. I could barely get in and out of the car with the factory seat placement. Lousy design of door opening. I bump my head on roof rail if I'm not actively trying not to. It's pretty to look at and all the stainless was savable between the 2 cars. I had to replace some of the pot metal pieces of course. They lie in advertising back then just like the do now. Lol

Three speed on the column because i don't believe you could get a factory four speed at the time. Plus positraction with a plague on the dashboard saying Impala Positraction. It would run pretty good at the time. It was black with red interior. That car would be worth a ton of money today in good condition. BTW: Chrysler could not push their 57 & 58 model lines off the assembly floor fast enough … thereby minimizing quality control … Forward Look … Backward Quality … They leaked, squeeked and were rusting within just a couple of years and all that aluminum ( not stainless ) trim was oxidizing as the e-coating flacked off …

😀Wow coil springs! * What a nasty roll & sway on that unstable Chevy. Shame ! . The front tires nearly blown out !... Probably off camera some had flats. Hahaha!
Nice looking cars. Engine was flying on it's own on the road.

They 58...chevy. out sold Ford. Ford outsold chevy in 57. Lol. The sacred one. Bow down to the 50 of them at every car show.

You' right about the recession, but I loved all 58s in the GM line up, most Fords, too, even the Edsel.

@@chriscatarcio2983 57 was the only year in that decade the Ford outsold Chevrolet but today the survival rate for Chevrolet is much, much higher. There's hardly any 57 Fords around. They rusted out terribly.
