    One of the sweetest rides on the Boobtube. Thanks for sharing.

    My first car was a 58 Chevy Delray Black, cost $500.00 in 1965. Stick, only had one sun visor. IT came from a utility company. I'm biased but I think the Delreys were the nicest 58s because they were so clean looking.

      I really like the 58s. They're not common in my area. I've had this one since 2016.

    "But down in the barn
    My Uncle preserved for me an old machine
    For 50 odd years
    To keep it as new has been his dearest dream.
    I strip away the old debris
    That hides a shining car

    From a better vanished time" RUSH, Red Barchetta

    I love 58 Chevy`s , your`s is very nice inside, I think it would look even better with a blue & white paint job, love the 50`s cars with two/tone paint. It is nice just as is is also, I would drive it at least once a week and have a blast doing so. Thanks for showing us your car. it would be a keeper if I owned it for sure.

    I also have a ‘58 Delray with the 235 and Borg Warner overdrive. I’ve only seen another besides yours. They are very rare. Passengers always trip out when all I have to do is let off the gas to go into overdrive. Along with my tach I hooked up an indicator light to let me know when to shift and when it’s in overdrive. I don’t really need it, but it looks cool. The little 235s don’t do too good on the freeway unless they have overdrive. You have a nice car.

      Thank you! The overdrive really transformed this car on the highway.

    Wow your car has way more options than mine my car has nothing no radio no clock no arm rest no nothing but it’s in mint condition

    • @farmingcars
      @farmingcars  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No armrest on the door? I've never noticed one without those. This car did have an AM radio factory, but no clock. I added the AM/FM.

    There should be switch under the gas pedal. When you want to pass someone you can push the gas to the floor and hit that switch. That will make the car drop out of overdrive essentially letting it drop a gear to give you more revs for passing.

    • @farmingcars
      @farmingcars  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine doesn't have that, but I bet that would be helpful.

      @@farmingcars That is how my Ford worked. Could there be something on the linkage near the trans shifter under the hood ? Or down near the trans housing ?

    • @farmingcars
      @farmingcars  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I bought the whole setup from someone who had it in another car. I didn't get a kick down switch or wiring for a switch. I would have to do more research to see how it's supposed to be.

    • @farmingcars
      @farmingcars  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It works well the way it is, but I have to manually downshift when needed.

      Very nice car. 58 was GM 50 th anniversary car I think and it was more advanced than any other year. First year for coil springs front and rear.

    The floors in these things would rust out pretty regular

      I patched the floors in this one, it was rusted out under the front seat. Nice and solid now.

    And that there is a nice looking 1958 Chevrolet Delray you have there-Ever drove a 1958 Chevy Biscayne? Also, you know the Biscayne took the Delray's place in about 1959

    • @farmingcars
      @farmingcars  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. I haven't driven a 58 Biscayne. Also you're correct, 58 was the last year for the Delray.

    I'm looking at one now with the original motor pulled and replaced. I have not seen it in person yet. I don't know what to look for because it will be my first old school. I don't know what a good price is for one that is in decent shape. help

    • @farmingcars
      @farmingcars  ปีที่แล้ว

      Prices are all over the place. I've had this one since 2016. It's a solid car, but it has had rust repairs and shows rust underneath. It is a turn key, reliable driver that I would be comfortable driving cross country. I had this one appraised for insurance reasons and it was appraised at just over $10k. V8 or 2 door cars in the same condition generally bring more money.
