Hey everyone, the giveaway entry is now closed and I will spend the next few days sorting through and picking out a winner! Stay tuned, and thank you for your support!
This is the first honest review I have found on this device. The others I have seen have been infomercials, so it is both refreshing and helpful to hear someone's actual impressions and experience with this panel. As inexpensive as it is, $500 is still a lot of money, so the no-holds-barred opinions you share are really helpful. Much appreciated. I would enter into the giveaway, but I have removed myself from all social media sites for personal reasons. Needless to say, I do find your giveway exceedingly generous, and hope someone who really deserves it, gets it.
I also ordered mine the day it was announced and have it. The shift down/Shift up buttons have been a game changer and you can see the future of other Blackmagic panels is here. I look at this panel as a platform that will go far and wide with me. Firmware updates as they get feedback and new features will be added. In a way, this is also a Beta/V1. It will only get better and not limited like the other panels. People have to realize that this micro panel has many more features than the old Micro panel and $300 less! Everybody will find a feature(s) that this panel makes their color grading a breeze. There will be certain things that this panel cannot do - like curves. But it Key Frames was the big one for me that it really helps with.
Great video, appreciate the candid honest feedback. It’s been hard to get non sponsored / gifted reviews of this. FWIW - would love a more in depth use video if you’re up for it since there still doesn’t seem to be a lot of content out there on this rn ❤
Great video! Hope Blackmagic sees it and implements your ideas. Preordered one as well and received it quickly. The slowness of the softness adjustment on power windows is bizarre. Would love to see a way to invert the power windows or add serial nodes before current node.
I love how they moved some of the buttons to the left side also, so we don’t only use right hand for all functions . Also , I think the next mini panel will definitely follow the same design
Hahaha! I loved the "Why the Luma Mix still a thing!". I have been using Davinci for 10 years now and never touched that knob on my panel! I bought the Micro panel when came out and I also have the Mini panel and same as you I hate the buttons! Also they put together Next Frame and Next Still and I always push Still by mistake and I hate it so much! And oh man, in summer the buttons become sticky and they don't return to normal position... Rubber is never going to be a good material. It gets stocky with the time! You deserve my subscribe button! Cheer from Japan!
I pre-ordered the panel and the reseller has no idea when it will arrive. It's from one the the top resellers in the UK. They are directly talking to Blackmagic too
Great job at highlighting the negatives of the Blackmagic Mini Panel, as I didn't know about its weird buttons. The thing I've always rolled my eyes at with it is that it's SQUARE SHAPED?!?!? WHY?? As a result you can't fit a keyboard and pen tablet in front of it. The shape of the portable micro panel is way superior and even better are the shape of the very wide rectangular and modular Tangent Elements panels. Which I've owned for years and love how it sits on the desk.
just curious but what is homie 1 and homie 2? homie looks like the davinci speed editor but customized i think. I'd like to know how you utilize those 2 objects in your arsenal. I'm fairly new to the color grading and editing process. If you could provide the links in your description from where you purchased them and discuss their uses for your setup, I'd greatly appreciate it 🙏
Love that you called them that 😆 Yes will be doing a video on how I use those real soon. In the meantime homie 1 is a ZSA Halfmoon and the homie 2 is a DOIO macropad, can't remember the model
Man, great video. I'm just getting into DaVinci right now after editing for a few decades in Final Cut, Avid, and Premiere. This panel seems incredible and I can't wait to pick one up. Thanks dude!
Thank you, glad it was helpful! Will be doing more here so stay tuned - and let me know if there are any specific topics you would like to see covered!
@@ceenbutnotheard Hey man...I finally picked up one of these from B&H last Friday and I've been using it all weekend. It's been really great, I really enjoy using it.
Great review. I've been eyeing this since the release but am still on the fence since our Canadian $ is crap lol and I'm still learning. But to give your older one away is very generous.
Thank you for this hands on experience review, not too many out there right now. Quick question, can you still control the HDR wheels with the balls / wheels when you switch to the HDR panel in Resolve? I'm more or less in the same boat as you. I have the mini panel for a few years now and it's size on the desk is a bit annoying. I also catch myself that I use less and less of the functionalities you access on the upper part of the panel. Moving windows with those nobs is way too tedious. And many of the features are buried way too deep in sub menus and pages for fast access that I resort to much more mouse use,. So the new micro panel seems to be a good middle ground. I started out a few years back with the AVID Artist Color Panel, that had the same functionality of moving / scaling the power windows via the balls and wheels and I was super disappointed when the mini panel did not have that feauture.
Yes the panel can control the HDR wheels, you just have to be actively on the HDR palette for them to do so. Also hitting the offset button while doing this will switch it to the global adjustment which I was relieved to see!
@@ceenbutnotheard awesome thank your for clarification! I hope to get the new micro panel through a tutorial deal later this year to test it out myself 😃👍
Before you get rid of your og micro, would you consider doing a comparison video of alll 3 panels just for its own sake? I'm talking buttons, features, layout etc?
Just got my color panel and i noticed that the wheels feel sticky, like they resist moving before finally rolling? I never experienced this with the original micro panel.
Great video. I got one on the way. Side note: do you share your davinci macros for your controllers? I have one but I haven’t had time to learn how to create custom macros. I’m stuck with shortcut keys on it until I have time to learn them.
I might share them eventually, but would rather make a video on how to set them up so you can figure out what works best for you. Everyone is different and I doubt my setup would work for anyone but me
I have a tangent wave 2 panel, and what I found really useful is the 4th wheel to scroll the timeline. Does this panel have this feature with some sort of combination of buttons?
Added you on IG and sent you too long a message to get in my film recommendations haha! Big fan of this style of video, look forward to seeing more content. A new subscriber earned.
I started out color grading as a hobby, I have been a still photographer correcting photos for years and moving in the color correction/management came naturally. 3 movies, that is difficult I am a movie fan …..the 10 commandments, Young Frankenstein and Blazing saddles.
Solid choices! Blazing Saddles is definitely in my top 3. Please DM me this on Instagram @ceen.mkv so I can log your entry. Since TH-cam removed the DM feature I have no other way of getting in touch with participants. Thank you!
I want to buy this thing so bad but it's not yet available in my country. Importing is not an option because due to the shit customs the price literally gets doubled excluding shipping!! Great video btw.

curves ?what's that ?

Hi, Does this panel supports Mac & windows PC and can We use it with both MAC & PC
Yes both Mac & PC, Linux too
80 subscribers but over 2k views, that is not too shabby
Great video, I haven't got a panel yet but had my eye on this and this convinced me to go ahead on this one.

which trackpad and stylus are you using???
i kinda wish it came wth the license as well? and I feel like id pull the trigger on this purchase
but im such a noob, still using premiere, and barely surviving with filmconvert nitrate.
time to move to davinci? prob.
