This could be so much better...

  • Today, I'm checking out the newly released wet weather physics in rFactor 2! I've yet to come across a simulated version of wet weather driving that reflects my experience in real-life race cars, but perhpas this one is different?

    I am told iRacing devs are working on wet weather. It’s reasonable to expect wet/dry lines, rolling resistance, etc, but also just a few tracks to start. They knocked it out of the park when they added AI, easily the best I’ve raced against

      I don’t care how good anything on iracing is, it’s overpriced and still looks like 2008.

    iRacing's supposedly working on a rain system where the rubber line being undriveable in the rain is actually gonna be simulated so fingers crossed.

  • @LambdaHDvideo
    @LambdaHDvideo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Very interesting video, rFactor 2 unfortunately does not simulate wet lines, puddles, and how slippery the kerbs get, but it does simulate the drying lines in a wet to dry transition, which very few other sims do (including simulating temp differences of the tyre on a wet surface vs dry surface)
    As far as I know, no sim really simulates proper wet lines, but Automobilista 2 and Project CARS 2 do simulate puddles quite well, so that's pretty fun

      @danielebrambilla2290 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It does simulate the wet line, people just don't know how to set up the session properly.
      You need to set a fairly rubbered in realroad and then make it rain, you'll see the grip difference immediately. True, the AI won't take wet lines but honestly AI needs a ton of work anyway.

      @@LambdaHDvideo As I said before, apparently it doesn't work if you start the session as already wet, probably because it's counting as if it had been raining long before the session. You need to make it rain at one point later down the session. I think you can notice it very well if you're on slicks and once the track is a bit damp, braking on the rubbered line (without ABS, of course) is guaranteed to make you lock up. Now, I'm pretty sure in the end the wet line effect is not as prominent as IRL, because rF2 is a game after all and needs to be sort of accessible to everyone but for sure that's the best rain simulation out there. Also, keep in mind that rain will eventually clean the track up so after a while the ideal line will be fast once again, obviously depending on how much rubber the track had in the first place.

      @valter_vava74 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@danielebrambilla2290 Exactly. People try rain on a green track and expect that there will be a difference between the normal racing line and the wet line... man, people really don't use what they have between their ears.

      @@valter_vava74 totaly, that make me crazy to hear RF2 is not realistique cause there is no rubbered line and no wet line. and you can see that 12 years ago in imagespaceinc video "Rain to dry time lapsed video".

    • @CameronDasRacing
      @CameronDasRacing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I noticed the slider went above 100. Doesn’t the AI get unrealistic grip and power above 100% though?

    • @JonasWindey
      @JonasWindey 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@CameronDasRacing no not really, they are beatable at 120% but it depends on the track and car. Usually I aim for 108-109% to have good and difficult fights. I would reduce agressiveness though (I run 50-60% max)

  • @valter_vava74
    @valter_vava74 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Dude, you drive in iRacing which does not have weather, no flat spots and has generally average physics package. I don't know what is your experience in rFactor 2 but its the ONLY simulation where the normal racing line is slower/slippier when it rains due to the rubber build up.
    So, I would question: have you tried first getting the track heavily rubbered in and then have rain kicking in while you are driving? Because if not, your video is just worthless.
    In any case, is Real Road 2.0 perfect? No, not at all, as it's missing "standing water" and aqua-planning, but it's heaps and bounds better than anything out there.

  • @shaundodd7390
    @shaundodd7390 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Great stuff Cameron. How do you find the F4 in Rf2 vs real life in normal weather, in regards to steering feel? I think you can expect updates to the rain physics such as puddles and aquaplanning in Rf2 in the future, and also updates to the AI. There is a wet line, but you need to make sure that the track has rubber too, which is the realroad setting.

  • @Weaseltube

    If anyone makes rain racing too realistic, no one will want to drive it.
    It sounds like that extreme realism is what iRacing is aiming for, so we'll find out soon enough.
