True. Vibrato plays a very important role in singing , no doubt. I was told in my young days that Talat Muhammad sang songs with a lot of feel. I too felt the same. For example, there is a Malayalam movie song “ Kadale neela kadale “ sung by Talat. You may try it in you tube. You can see that there are subtle oscillations throughout apart from the gamakams.
He had a voice which was emotion packed and a friend of mine told me that the quality of a musical note is determined by vibrato also along with the low , medium and high frequency components and their relative richness. Often many singers knowingly or unknowingly use this technique because the charm it brings in unique.
As another example I have heard the song “Narayana thE namo namo “ by Deepu himself. I don’t remember if it is there in the TH-cam channel ShruthiLayaDeeptham. I had heard him singing this song in a concert. Some notes, while Deepu sings, have fine and even finer( it may appear even as non existent ) vibrato which takes the song to sky high beauty. If it is there , Deepu! , please post the link here for the readers ready reference .
Dasettan used this optimally in his prime days.
I am speaking in the light of my observation only which is highly subjective. So you might disagree with mine.
I feel in in all types of music (including South Indian Classical) singers use this technique . Those who use it quite optimally are great singers. ❤❤❤

thank you for the detailed comment ❤️ no, I haven’t released narayana the namo nama.. will do sometime soon… and to your point; most indian singers do sing vibrato without or with their knowledge..Yes, In the older generation, Rafi, Talat they were experts in feel/vibrato.. in the 2000's sonu nigam is the expert according to what I have listened so far..
