Exactly. Plus, people who aren't into Korean culture/entertainment always seem so flabbergasted as to why stuff from "some random Asian country" is getting famous or whatever. So the question about what made K-pop blow up was in itself a bit of a giveaway, but paired with the fact that he asked it randomly instead of talking about kpop issues made it a dead giveaway.
Or they just might not have shown it. They had to make some cuts to make the video shorter too. We still don't know if he did or didn't answer that question, we just know it how the editor showed us. But I do want to know to see how far his research actually went to prepare for being in this video lol

Ngl the moment Troy said Kpop acts as a platform for LGBTQ+, I knew he was hella sus. Western belief, unfortunately, sees boy bands and fashion as being inherently queer coded (something that is changing with time). The irony is South Korea is a very conservative environment and the lgbtq+ idols often get cold receptions, to the point the industry prefers them to keep quiet about sexualities, despite any pandering it encourages. A very unfortunate part of the industry that is slooooowly changing. (And we k-pop stans can try to encourage and support more understanding in the industry, to allow people who want to entertain us to be able to live comfortable lives.)

What defines a superfan? Can it be someone who listens to 40 different groups and knows a little about all of them? Can it be someone who listens to only 5 groups but knows them super in-depth? Is it somewhere in the middle? A combination? I think we all have a different definition for the term lol
Who knows about a lot of groups but has info and has info about the songs the members, it doesn't have to be like everything but atleast know about the members
I think you have to be a fan of a minimum of 5 groups - know all the title songs and member names. Can list at least 20 more groups and idols. Have to be familiar with the top 5 songs of each year since you became a superfan, so even if you don't know the song you'll know the artist or you know the chorus or a dance move. Know some random facts/news/gossip/trivia.
That's not the point though. If you're only a fan of a couple of groups, you're not a SUPERFAN. That's the kind of distinction you have to be aware of when you're in a competition.

That’s true but I think what they meant is that if you know more underrated groups you’re likely more invested in Kpop, whereas if you just know popular groups it could be because you just see them a lot online and everyone talks about them so much. I mean, I don’t stan Twice at all but I know a lot about them and all the members just because I see them everywhere.

don't read this cos its a SPOILER!! I miss understood the introduction at the beginning when Dara said "I know nothing", I thought that was her way of telling us she was the mole! So throughout the entire video I was thinking, "wow, she's a really good actor, why does she have all this merch! SHE'S DOING REALLY WELL!!" I'm so proud and respect them for leading K-Pop. I realized once again that music can communicate a lot of things and empathize together regardless of language.
Tbh they shouldn’t make them show their merch and stuff because that’s not what makes a true kpop fan. Besides, some people don’t have the money to spent on all these things.

(im genuinely not trying to be rude or nasty so plz don’t be offended 🥺) but even if you don’t have the money for Official merch , you have something....and what i mean is it can be off brand merch , a sticker a banner, something you made, for example a tshirt or a word poster made for you’re binder or something... all kpop fans have something to show for , it doesn’t always have to be official or worth anything..... like they stated in the video like Jaime he didn’t have as much merch but he had the album’s digitally (im aware not every fan can even afford that , but for ex when i was a new kpop fan and in hs all i did was print pictures of idols and put it on my wall and binder XD) Now that im older and have been a fan for years now i have accumulated merch... but my point is that all kpop fans usually have something to show for. valuable or not

i would’ve never survived this. I would be so intimidated about all the them because some have a lot of merch, and there’s a lot of talk of older kpop, and my bias groups may be sus.

Aww thanks. Don't feel bad. I actually had a lot of fun and it inspired me to make my own show, with mostly older kpop Fans. It's called Road to Hagdom. Your parents might enjoy it (you might too). Lots of fans all ages, yelling about kpop (and I do mean YELLING) haha
1 month 😭😅 it’s been a month since I have become OBSESSED with Kpop! Not my fault though, I was born in 7/8/2006 and just when kpop was starting to blow up all around the world, I moved back to my country in Asia were foreign music is not a thing. I moved back to England in Christmas 2017 and I was still getting used to my life back in England again. Now that I am up to date with everything in the UK again, I have discovered the great world of K-pop. (But I did, and still do, watch k-dramas though)
Well... Most of them gave the reason why she was voted out, she mentioned her daughter is a K-pop fan, of course saying that is kind of suspicious, specially because she was showing off the room with all the frames perfectly in place. To be fair, I would've voted her out first round too since there was not a.lot to get from the talking
Troy played it well, Dara and Jaime were talkative which isnt wrong because they wanted to prove they were superfans while Troy talked only when no one else was, he managed to keep a low profile so he doesn't stand out.
I don't have any merch other than a small chimmy plush so I would've gotten voten off for first, my merch, my pronouncation and how my only merch is Bt21 so I wouldn't really be seen as a real fan lol.
I am a fan of K-pop for about 6 years I think and I have nothing, I just have my spotify. Merch doesn't really say if you're a K-pop fan or not. I don't know if I liked this video...

Can it be someone who listens to 40 different groups and knows a little about all of them?
Can it be someone who listens to only 5 groups but knows them super in-depth?
Is it somewhere in the middle? A combination? I think we all have a different definition for the term lol
Who knows about a lot of groups but has info and has info about the songs the members, it doesn't have to be like everything but atleast know about the members
I think you have to be a fan of a minimum of 5 groups - know all the title songs and member names. Can list at least 20 more groups and idols. Have to be familiar with the top 5 songs of each year since you became a superfan, so even if you don't know the song you'll know the artist or you know the chorus or a dance move. Know some random facts/news/gossip/trivia.

(im genuinely not trying to be rude or nasty so plz don’t be offended 🥺) but even if you don’t have the money for Official merch , you have something....and what i mean is it can be off brand merch , a sticker a banner, something you made, for example a tshirt or a word poster made for you’re binder or something... all kpop fans have something to show for , it doesn’t always have to be official or worth anything..... like they stated in the video like Jaime he didn’t have as much merch but he had the album’s digitally (im aware not every fan can even afford that , but for ex when i was a new kpop fan and in hs all i did was print pictures of idols and put it on my wall and binder XD) Now that im older and have been a fan for years now i have accumulated merch... but my point is that all kpop fans usually have something to show for. valuable or not

Not my fault though, I was born in 7/8/2006 and just when kpop was starting to blow up all around the world, I moved back to my country in Asia were foreign music is not a thing. I moved back to England in Christmas 2017 and I was still getting used to my life back in England again. Now that I am up to date with everything in the UK again, I have discovered the great world of K-pop. (But I did, and still do, watch k-dramas though)
