Gorons are likely mammals, so they have a need for them, Zora are fish or maybe reptiles, so they don't breastfeed, so they won't have nipples, I just assumed that was the case when playing Majora's mask

I am not convinced Gorons are mammals... They all use masculine pronouns/ titles, and yet they have no issue getting into Gerudo Town, which make me believe they don't have a defined sex (or perhaps they are all male and the Gerudo make an exception for them).
Yeah, we’ve never seen an obviously female Goron, so I always assumed they reproduced asexually, like by budding or something. We do know they have “direct descendants” because of Daruk and Yunobo, so they definitely don’t just pop out of the mountain… But maybe the males still have to breastfeed, maybe the baby Gorons are too little to eat rocks. 😂

I'm not arguing that Zora aren't mammals, in fact I think they're actually reptiles (or more specifically, crocodilia), but laying eggs doesn't immediately rule them out as mammals. In fact what rules them out as mammals is the lack of hair and/or fur. I spent a day studying Taxonomy so I could classify Zora. If you want I could go in depth as to why they are crocodilia.

In most Zelda games the zoras live in rivers/lakes which would count for the Fresh water except for a few games where they live in the sea. And in the wind waker there was obviously a need for them to evolve into the Ritos and that may be attributed to Ganondorf’s curse on the sea but if the zoras were amphibians, it could mean that they were unable to survive in salt water. Honestly, I could research zora biology for a while I think

I agree as well, because that quote by Eiji is a joke and "it's just the art style" makes much more sense. as a woman I don't relate to Link at all (which was a big reason I couldn't enjoy breath of the wild much. it was much more of a survival game then other zelda games and I really only enjoy survival games if I can relate to the character I'm playing, which is why most offer a character creator)

@@mimivrc4148 As a women, I don't think link's gender makes a difference in my ability to relate to him. He's still supposed to be Link, even if he's still a silent protagonist to project onto. Not to mention, he's the most androgynous he's ever been. But to each their own. Zelda isn't the type of game with a character creator. Playing as a female character like Zelda or Impa won't make me "relate" to a character any more just because we happen to both be of the female persuasion. You're not playing as yourself. You're playing as Link. But that's just my 2c.
@@kirin1230 it is a feeling I usually only get in survival type games, or farming simulator type games really. Never had an issue with it before in zelda games. No idea why but BoTW just tipped far enough in that direction to make me disinterested to play as "Link" I guess!

Nipples are uncommon on men in a lot of anime and manga, specifically in works where women are the target audience. These attractive male characters are meant to be idealized, and apparently male nipples are often seen as odd or off-putting compared to bare pectoral muscles, so artists omit them to make the characters "sexier" and more perfect. Personally, I appreciate a good male nipple, and I think characters without nipples looks alien because they're such an integral part of human anatomy, but Link's nip slip (or lack there of) might be because the designer wanted him to be as attractive as possible.
That might be it. Now that I think about it, perhaps this is also part of why in the game _Fitness Boxing 2: Rhythm and Exercise,_ the male trainers don't have nipples.
Is this also the case with belly buttons? I always wondered why in that same game, the female trainers have them, but not the male ones. It can't be because they couldn't put 6-packs and belly buttons together--one of the female trainers has both of them.

Goron link’s nipples are NOT Link’s nipples. In Majora’s mask, the masks that Link uses to transform are the spirits of actual people that once lived. The Goron mask is made with Darmani’s spirit, and we can see that Darmani’s ghost indeed had nipples.

I feel like the gender neutrality in tandem with the art style makes it make sense.
And it also has to do with polygons too. Daruk likely has nipples because the texture is very simple, as well as him potentially having more polygons make up his chest.
Link seems to have more of a flat chest and more subtle muscle. Putting the nipples on him just seems like they'd stand out far too much, especially because of how pink he gets in the cold.
I. Thinking about it? If they made his skin texture change in cold they'd have to harden hips nipples too. They probably didn't want to do that. Not for the rating they keep.

My theory is that is does indeed have to do with the cell shading. Cell shading intentionally removes details for stylistic reasons. Nipples would probably just be distracting, or appear as some weird artifact on his otherwise smooth chest.

BotW is more stylised than Twilight Princess, it's not uncommon to not draw nipples in anime-style games.
Or in anime/manga in general. Go watch Attack on Titan, characters don't have nipples there, nothing to do with characters being gender-neutral or something like that.
There's a shitton of anime and manga with only subtle nipples or no nipples at all, because it's one less detail to draw.
Character models will often have nothing underneath clothes if they don't need to take them off, you're not gonna see it so having the model there would just make the gamer bigger and less optimized.
Link got shot by a guardian and badly wounded 100 years ago. Maybe it shot him in the chest and when the shrine of resurrection regrew the skin, there weren’t any remaining nipple cells to use to regrow the nipples.

I thought that featuring nipples and other details in certain artstyle, mostly the simplified stylized styles are just seen as unnecessary details that could easily get lost due to simplification. Bellybuttons, veins, body hair, winkles, pores, nails, noseholes and even genitals and buttocks could disappear quiet often in stylization too! Many of the reason is that those details are also harder to create for some artists.
Link is a trans man with a botched top surgery. That’d also explain the, ahem, other missing stuff.
Doesn't have to be botched tbf, some guys just opt for no nipples after surgery. Makes the recovery quicker
